Hint:
Hidden pitches: When pitching you are normally only able to choose from a
"fastball" and a "split". Hold Left, then rotate
the D-pad clockwise and press B to unlock the rest of the
pitches.
Hint:
Choose your hit: When batting, there are five ways to hit the baseball.
Grounder: Press Down +
B.
Homerun (sometimes): Press Up + B.
Left Field: Press Left + B.
Right Field: Press Right + B.
Random Hit: Press B.
Hint:
Powerful offense: Because this game uses the 2001 rosters with 2000 stats, if you
play as the St. Louis Cardinals you will get both Albert Pujols and a
healthy Mark McGwire. In 2000, Mark Gwire hit .305 with 32 home runs and 73
RBIs in only 89 games -- he was injured for most of the second half of the
season. Projected to a full season of 162, he would have hit 58 home runs
and gotten 133 RBIs. Pujols was a rookie in 2001, so he had no 2000 stats.
Playing as the Cardinals, you also get CF Jim Edmonds who hit .295 with 42
home runs and 108 RBIs in 2000. Albert Pujols's stats were taken from the
first 46% of his at bats in his rookie year. The game gives Pujols a .349
batting average, 20 HRs, and 64 RBIs in his first 272 at bats. Projecting
through all 590 at bats that Pujols had in 2001 gives him 43 HRs and 139
RBIs, even better than his actual numbers for that year.
Glitch:
Double play after a walk: Sometimes when a batter walks, he will stay at home plate and not
go to first base. You (or the CPU) can make a double play if the next batter
pops out.
