Second
quest: Normally, you would have to successfully complete the game in
order to unlock the second set of dungeon maps. Instead, enter ZELDA
as your name. You will see a white sword in Link's hand to confirm that you
are now on the second quest. For the most part, all the levels are in
different locations, and the maps have changed.
Save
any time: Pause game play, then press Up + Y + A on
controller two. Select the "Save" option that appears with
controller one. Note: Selecting the "Continue" option will bring
you to the start of the world map if you are currently outside or to the
beginning of the dungeon when inside with three hearts of health.
Quick
save: Press Start to pause game play, then press X. The
end game options will appear.
Note: Button presses are
described in NES version format. Use the equivalent button on the Gamecube
when playing that version:
Easy
rupees: In the early part of the game, kill the blue enemies until one of
them drops bombs and you have 10 to 20 rupees total. Then from the starting
location, go to the screen west of you and blast a hole in the wall above
the middle of the rows of rocks. It is a gambling hall. Save the game,
select one of the rupees, and gamble. If you win, save the game. If you
lose, retry and restart.
From the starting point, move
right four times, and kill everything. Keep going through the beach, killing
everything in your path. Once you get to the part with the stairs that lead
up to the warp point, go left. Keep going left until you reach the corner of
the lake with all the "flowers" flying around. Then, turn back and
go back to the part with the stairs to the warp point. Go down and make your
way back to the starting point. Repeat these steps until you have 255
rupees. Note: It is strongly recommended that you have the Magic Shield, and
the White Sword may also help. This is a good way to save up rupees for the
Blue Ring (costs 250 rupees), and you can only carry 255.
One screen west from the start
of the game is a hidden gambling room. Once you get 10 or more rupees, save
the game then play the game of chance. If you win, save the game. If you
lose, quit, reload the game, and play again. This is a much less time
consuming method of getting to 255 rupees to buy the items you need early in
the game.
Easier
travel: You can make traveling across Hyrule much easier. Kill every
enemy in each screen except for one. Every time you return to any such
screen, that single enemy will be there, but no new ones will respawn. This
can be used in some of the dungeon rooms as well, but you are required to
kill off everyone to get doors to open.
Flutes
and whistles: Blow the flute in any ordinary place in the Overworld. A tornado
will takes you away. The same thing happens in Mario Brothers 3 after a
whistle is found (1-3,1-F,2-H) and used.
Avoiding
enemies: Kill every enemy on the screen except for one. Every time you
enter that particular screen there will only be that one remaining, allowing
easier travel.
Avoiding
paying for doors: If you have no money and enter such a room, the old man will not
collect anything and leave for good.
Open
locked door in first dungeon: When you enter the first dungeon there is a locked door. Exit the
dungeon then re-enter. The door will now be unlocked.
Old
Man: Find an old man inside any of the Labyrinths, and then bomb,
shoot, stab, or burn him The two flames will start attacking you.
Freeze
enemies: When you have your boomerang (wooden or magical) throw it at an
enemy. It will freeze for a few seconds. While it is frozen, you can defeat
them easier. This is especially useful when fighting the one-eyed red spider
creatures.
No
broken door charge: Press A + B on controller two after the old man
asks for payment for a broken door.
Unlock
door in first dungeon: During the First Quest, enter the first Dungeon for the first
time, then turn around and immediately exit. Turn back around and re-enter
the first Dungeon. The locked door at the top of the screen will be open.
The
Lost Woods: The Lost Woods are located in southwestern Hyrule. There are two
exits from The Lost Woods, west and east. If you go north or south, you will
end up in The Lost Woods again. You can always exit to the east. To get to
the Graveyard to the west, go north, west, south, west. If you make a
mistake, you will have to take the eastern exit, then return to The Lost
Woods and go through the north, west, south, west path again.
The
Lost Hills: The Lost Hills are like The Lost Woods, but the path you take is
different. If you want to go north to the entrance to Level 5, then take the
north path five times. To exit The Lost Hills, go west.
The
Secret Pond: The Secret Pond is located in western Hyrule, near The Lost
Woods. It hides the entrance to Level 7. To reveal the entrance, blow the
Whistle. The water will disappear, and stairs will appear which lead into
Level 7.
Hidden
area: Bomb all of the flat edged parts of the wall on the top part of
the screen in the Overworld. There will be a hidden door that leads to
goblins offering free rupees, old men offering a heart container or a
potion, or just a store with cheaper prices. There are some door repair
charges along the way, but if you happen to get one of the better ones then
this will make up for it. Note: If there is a store or a doorway already on
a screen, then there will not be a hidden door. There is only one hidden
door per screen. This may not happen all the time. Sometimes there are no
entrances on a screen. However, there is at least an entrance on about every
other screen. If the second quest is giving you trouble or you are confused
and lost, use this to find cheaper stores and quick access to rupees.
Defeating
Aquamentus: This trick requires at least three bombs. Lay a bomb next to
and/or under him to hit him. Do this two or three times, depending on where
you put the bombs, to defeat him. Alternately, try to get behind him. Once
you are behind him, slash your sword rapidly to defeat him. Or, combine
these strategies together to defeat him faster.
Defeating
Gohma: Ready your Bow and Arrows before you enter Gohma's room in Level
6. Fire as soon as you enter the room. Gohma will be perfectly lined up with
the doorway with his eye open, and you will be able to defeat him with a
single shot.
Defeating
Manhandla: There are two ways to defeat Manhandla. The easy way is to just
drop a bomb near where he is located, and hope that he will move to where
the bomb was laid to defeat him. The hard way is destroy his heads (there
are four) with your bombs. Note: Each time you hit one of his heads, he gets
faster. Be careful on the last hit.
Items
from ghosts: Use this trick to get anything from rupees to hearts, but no
bombs. Watch the only ghost out in any graveyard. Then, touch all the other
graves, freeze the original ghost with any boomerang and defeat it. All the
other ghosts will appear and turn into items. Note: For an easier time, hit
the original ghost until it will take one more hit to defeat it, then do the
trick.
Stairs: Whenever you see statues in the Overworld, a set of stairs will
almost always be under one of them.
Waterfall: Walk into the waterfall
White
sword: To get the white sword, you must have about twelve Hearts. Then,
go to the house by the waterfall. There will be an old man. He will say
"Master using it you can use it too". You will then see a white
sword.
Eyeballs: In the level with the giant eyeball, play the flute and it will
shrink down to a smaller size.
The
second sword: Go the top right side of the screen. There will be a cave above a
lake of water. In it will be the second sword given to you by the old man.
Second
shield: Go to the middle left of the screen. In a cave will be the second
shield, selling for 90 rupees.
Master
Sword: If you have enough hearts, you will be able to take the Master
Sword hidden in the graveyard.
Ring: Towards the top left side of the screen (about over six and down
four spaces) will be six stone men. Touch the top middle one and a staircase
will appear. The ring sells for 250 rupees. It changes Link to light blue
and gives you more defense.
Heart
piece locations:
From the starting point: move
4 screens to the right and bomb wall.
From the starting point: move
4 screens right, 5 screens up, 1 screen right, and bomb rock.
From the starting point: move
1 screen right, 3 screens up, 1 screen left, and burn fifth bush from the
right.
From the starting point: move
8 screens right and 2 screens up. Must have the ladder.
From the starting point: move
8 screens right and 5 screens up. Must have the raft.
Dungeon
locations in the second world:
Dungeon 1: Great Deku tree
(same as first world).
Dungeon 2: Place where you
obtained the Blue Ring in the first world.
Dungeon 3: Place where the
second dungeon was found in the first world.
Dungeon 4: One screen to the
right of waterfall; move left end rock.
Dungeon 5: Place where the
fourth dungeon is in the first world.
Dungeon 6: Go to the graves,
go to middle left screen, then blow the whistle.
Dungeon 7: One screen left,
one screen down; burn vertical row of bushes.
Dungeon 8: One screen left of
waterfall, two steps left of center; go up and bomb.
Dungeon 9: Northwestern-most
screen; bomb middle part of wall.
Secret
passages: There are secret passages that link to each other and lead to
different areas of the Overworld. There are at least three and they act as
shortcuts to the far corners of the Overworld. The closest opening from the
beginning of the game is found two screens to the right, but you need the
Power Bracelet in order to push the leftmost rock. Once you open one
entrance, all of them will be open. These entrances, which are at random
spots all around the Overworld, lead to a room with the Old Man saying
"Take any road you want" and three staircases. This is how you can
get around to those other entrances.
Underground
road: From the starting point of the game, go right two screens and
push the left boulder of the four boulders up or down to reveal a staircase.
Go down the staircase. All the different staircases lead to all the parts of
Hyrule. Note: This requires the Power Bracelet.
Alternate
Link colors: When Link picks up the clock that freezes the enemies and he
blinks different colors, press Select to freeze the screen. Repeat
this to see different colors for Link. If you freeze it at the correct
moment, his clothes will be all red and white making him resemble Santa
Claus. At another moment, his clothes are black and red and his skin will be
green like a witch.
Second
Quest: Finding the flute: After defeating Gannon in the first game, you will get to the
second adventure. You need the flute to get to level 3. The flute is located
in the second dungeon (which is shaped like an "A") by pushing
through a wall that leads into the center of the "A". You have to
come in from two screens above this, then walk down the isle of blocks to
the end of the wall. Then, just keep pushing. You will end up in the center
of the "A" which leads to the cave where you find the flute.
Second
Quest: Finding secret caves: The flute can be used to make secret caves appear in many places
in the surface world.
Second
Quest: Location of level 9: Level 9 is located in the upper left corner on the overview
screen. Level 4 has many secrets and challenges. The old man in level 4 says
"There is a secret in the direction of the arrow". The arrow is
made of rock stones pointing in the direction of level 9. The arrow itself
is a secret. If you have enough heart containers and the Power Bracelet, you
can move the tip of the arrow and a secret staircase will appear. Inside is
the magical sword.
Second
Quest: Level 4 secrets: After you defeat the enemy Boss in level 4,the door that the
Triforce is behind will unlock. Enter the Triforce room. Leave the Triforce
alone. Walk through the wall on the left (west) side of the Triforce. You
will encounter another old man that wants you to buy more bombs. Do so, as
you will need them. Only do this if you have 100 rupees, as you will not be
able to walk back through the wall in which you came. After buying the
bombs, go back to the Triforce room again. Do not go after the Triforce
again. Instead, walk through the north wall in the Triforce room (the series
of rooms behind the Triforce room). When you walk through the wall, you will
encounter several rooms, one of which has the raft. You need the raft to
complete the game.
You will need at least 50
rupees to complete this level. You will encounter an old man in a room that
says "Your money or your life". Health is important in this game.
Never give them life or a heart container. If the door locks behind you when
you enter this room and you do not have the rupees to pay the old man, do
not select the heart container. Walk up to the old man and start to slash
him with your sword. Let him kill you. You will die, but will not be trapped
and will not have to surrender your life. Only do this if you do not have
enough rupees.
Glitch:
Like Like defense: When you are in a dungeon and enter a room with Like Likes
(enemies that swallow you when touched; they resemble orange springs), get
swallowed by one. Once in the Like Like, nothing in the room will hurt you.
As long as you do not kill the Like Like, you will not get hurt. Wait for
enemies to get near you, then attack without worrying about taking damage.
Note: This trick works well in dungeons with Like Likes and Ghosts such as
the Second Quest's Dungeon 6.
