Getting Rupees
Extra
rupees:
In Koriki Forest, the
starting town, go by the shop and jump on the blocks that lead to it to
get 5 rupees. Enter in the shop, come back out, and jump on the blocks
again to collect more money.
There is a door to the right
before entering the market. Enter to find some vases and boxes that
contain rupees. After collecting the money, exit, then re-enter the room.
Search the vases and boxes again to collect the rupees again.
When first entering Hyrule
Castle, there is a door that resembles the background. Enter and smash all
the pots to collect about fifty rupees. Leave the room and return to
collect all the rupees again.
After collecting all the
chickens in Kakariko village for the first time, keep repeating that
process to collect 50 rupees each time.
Shoot the signs in Gerudo
Fortress with a little moon on them with your hookshot or longshot for 20
rupees.
As you enter the Gerudo
Fortress, there is a sign with a symbol on it. Stand directly beneath it
and shoot its bottom. If timed correctly, a rupee will fall from the sign.
Note: This can only be done once per game.
Shoot the decorated skulls
over the doorways In the Gerudo Fortress with an arrow. They will drop
arrows, or rupees.
Go to the front of the
marketplace during the day. Walk up to the chains holding the drawbridge
all the way to the top. Then, turn and jump off. As Link falls, 20 rupees
may be collected. Walk over the other side and repeat for even more
rupees.
While as an adult, collect
the Odd Mushroom from the man in the forest and taken it to Kakariko
Village. Give the Potion to the little girl that was left in his place.
Return to the first screen to the left, when Link entered the Lost Woods
from Kokiri Village. Use the sword to kill the Skull Kid at that location
to get 200 rupees. Leave the woods and return for another 200 rupees, and
repeat as needed.
When Link is a child, go to
the drawbridge to get 60 rupees. During the day, stand on the very edge,
which is the part that goes to the top when it closes. Wait for nightfall,
or play the Sun's Song to make it night. Link should be able to stay on it
until it goes all the way up. He will get three red rupees for walking
across the top.
When Link is as a child, go
to Zelda's castle. Go to the moat of water in front of the castle. Get
your slingshot, and aim at two green diamond-like objects on each side of
the drawbridge. When you shoot them you will get some rupees -- but you
can only shoot them once.
When Link is an adult he can
get an orange rupee that is larger than the yellow one, as many times as
needed. It will fill the wallet each time. Go to the Lost Woods, and take
a left in the first area. Get to the room with the single Skullkid. Target
him, and walk up to him until he jumps off and decides to fight. Use a
sword to keep him from jumping away. Link will probably take a few hits as
he shoots. After a few slashes he will pass out, leaving a giant orange
ruby.
Go to the Lost Woods and
fight the kid whom you give the skull mask to (the person dancing on the
stump you played Saria's song to). He will shoot some rocks or objects at
you, which take little to no health away. Just hit him with the Master
Sword about two to three times and grab the orange rupee. Then, go out of
the place and do it again.
Run around Hyrule Field at
night as a child and kill twenty skeletons. A giant skeleton will appear.
Kill it to get rupees.
In the Desert Colossus, kill
the sand creatures until a giant one appears. There are a total of four
giants, that have a large amount of rupees.
To get easy rupees, go into
the castle courtyard where you first met Zelda. Use your slingshot to
shoot the window to the right (if you were facing Zelda). A rupee will
drop down and land in the water.
The following enemies will
usually give 20 or more rupees per kill: The spongy enemies that eat your
shield and tunic; the giant that clubs the ground right before the Forest
Temple; and the hand that falls from the ceiling in certain dungeon areas.
Go to the shop as a child and
move to the right side. Walk behind the counter to get some rupees.
As an adult, go to the Lost
Woods with the Biggoron Sword. When entering from Kokiri Forest to the
Lost Woods, go through the left opening, where the lone Skull Kid is
playing his flute. Fight and kill him with the Biggoron Sword. After
defeating the lone Skull Kid, a huge Rupee will remain where the Skull Kid
was standing. The Rupee will be worth 500 Rupees. This is an easy way to
gain some fast money.
As you enter the Lost Woods,
make a right into the tunnel. Then make a left, another left, and you will
be in the place with a lot of bushes. Go to the back where a grotto is
hidden. Enter there as a child. When you enter, stand on the platform
about five steps in front of you. Wear the Mask Of Truth and play the Song
Of Storms. The flowers will start to dance or they will get mad. If they
get mad, try again until they dance. You will eventually get a lot of
rupees. Repeat this as many times as needed.
Enter the shop in the Kokiri
Forest and go to the little doorway off to the right of the counter to
find 5 rupees. This is useful in the beginning of the game, when you are
gathering rupees for you shield.
As a child, go to the market.
In the back alley, go to the lady who cannot find her dog. When you walk
in, you will see a box. Break it and you will get five rupees. Walk out,
then go back in and break it again. Keep repeating this to get as many
rupees as needed.
As an adult in Kakariko
village, walk 5 to 20 paces slowly facing the well before the house. The
Rumble Pak will activate if you have the Stone Of Agony. Take out the
Megaton Hammer and swing it towards the spider house. A hole will appear.
Go down kill the two zombies to get a chest with 200 rupees.
To gain an unlimited amount
of rupees do the following. As a child, talk to the giant Goron inside of
the third floor in Goron City. As an adult, go to the top of Death
Mountain and play the Song Of Storms. Run to the Death Mountain crater and
play the Song Of Storms again. You will hear a sound. Run back outside to
find a giant gold Skulltula drop in front of the giant Goron. He will
stand up. Jump around kill the Skulltula (requires eight hits), then talk
to the giant Goron. He will thank you and tell you to visit him anytime.
He will give you 100 rupees each time. Note: This trick must be done in
under 45 seconds.
Go to Death Mountain, on the
trail that goes to the top. After the part where you throw bombs at the
rocks to open the path, there is another rock and you can hear a cow
mooing. Bomb the rock and go in the hole. There will be a puddle with
about 25 Rupees in it. Get the rupees. You can keep re-entering the hole
and the money will replenish itself.
As a child, go to Hyrule
City's gatehouse in the day. Slowly walk up the chain of the drawbridge
and jump of once at the top. You will get twenty rupees when you jump off.
Go to the Lost Wood as an
adult. Go to the Skull Kid to the left. Kill him to get 200 rupees.
As a child, go to Hyrule
Field. Go to the draw bridge and make sure it is daytime. Play the Sun
Song if needed. When the drawbridge is down, go to one of the chains used
to pull it upwards. Walk up the chain to the top and make sure not to
fall. Play the Sun Song and the drawbridge will raise. Walk across the
drawbridge and collect three red rupees (60 all together). Fall down
inside and go into the market. Play the Sun Song and step outside. Then,
repeat the process to collect 60 more rupees.
Near the end of the game
(when you have all medallions, etc.), get the Biggoron Sword and go to the
Kokiri Village. Enter the Lost Woods and take out the Biggoron Sword.
Follow the first left, and you should be in the area with the tree stump.
Near the stump will be a giant Skull Kid. It is pretty fast, but one hit
from the Biggoron Sword should kill it. When dead, it will leave behind
200 rupees.
When you go to see Zelda,
walk to the window to your left. Shoot the window with your slingshot and
a man will tell you not to cause trouble. You will see an explosion. Walk
over to the window to the right. Shoot the top left corner of the window
and a red rupee will appear.
One bottle is required to
perform this cheat. After you become adult Link and the town's people move
from the castle to the village, go to the area behind the potion shop.
There will be a hole in the ground in that area. Fall into the hole and
you will be in a small cavern. If you look at the ground, there will be
puddles. In the puddle to the left will be a fish swimming. You cannot
hurt the fish with your sword or any weapon. Instead, take out a bottle
and press the C-button again to select and use it. Link will swing
the bottle downward and catch the fish. Go back out and find the homeless
lady. Press the C-button that contains the fish. Link will pull it
out and the lady will buy it for 100 rupees. Repeat the process until your
wallet is filled. Note: It does not cost you anything to get the fish.
When you have just gotten the
Iron Boots, put them on outside of the ice cave, where Jabu Jabu used to
be. Go to the bottom to find some rupees and a Heart container in the
middle.
After winning the Piece of
Heart from the single Skull Kid, return to his grove at any time and kill
him to get a giant rupee worth 200 rupees. This can be done multiple
times, as he returns every time you leave and always gives a giant rupee.
To get easy rupees, go to
Kakariko Village as an adult. Break the small rock and catch a bug in a
jar. Sell it to the weird kid who is kneeling by the Bazaar. You can sell
the bug to him for fifty rupees.
As a child, go to the house
at the entrance to Hyrule Castle Town. Break the jars.
Go to the Lost Forest as a
child. Proceed to the entrance where you get Sarah's Song. Wait until you
feel the controller rumble, then place a bomb at that location. Defeat the
two werewolves to get 50 rupees in a chest.
Go to the Hyrule drawbridge
and cross it. To Link's right there is a door. Enter it and destroy the
pots and boxes to get rupees. Once they are all destroyed, go out of the
door then go back in. Destroy them again and repeat this process. Also,
when you are a child and are in the same room, there are two boxes at the
far end of it. The one to the far right as a Golden Skullula in it.
Extra
Rupees with 100 gold Skulltulas:
Kill all 100 gold Skulltulas to free the man in the middle of the
Skulltula's house. He will give Link 200 rupees. Get out of the house and
re-enter to get another 200 rupees. This may be repeated as needed. There
are only 100 Skulltula in all of Hyrule.
You may wonder what happens
when you free the final man from the Skulltula curse. The first people you
free are the man's kids who will give you things such as larger wallets,
bombchus, and hearts. After fifty Skulltulas, all the kids are free but the
father is still under the spell. He tells you not to worry about it and that
he is just glad his kids are all right. If you get the remaining fifty, the
spell will break and the man will return to his normal form of a human. In
return he will give you 200 rupees every time you talk to him. You have to
leave the house and go back in for him to give you 200 more.
Extra
Rupees at marketplace:
Go to the drawbridge in front of the marketplace during the day
and run up to the top of one of the chains. Wait for night to arrive (or
play the Sun's Song). Carefully run across the bridge to collect three red
rupees worth an easy 60 rupees. Play the Sun's Song again to lower the
drawbridge. Go into the market and come back out again to repeat the trick.
Rupees
with Bunny Mask:
After completing the Forest Temple, return to the Temple of Time.
Drop the Master Sword back into the stone to change back to Young Link. Go
to the mask shop and make sure Link can borrow the Bunny Mask. Link should
also have the Giant's Wallet (that holds 500 rupees) for this trick to be
most effective. Thirty Gold Skulltulas should also have been collected, and
Link should have talked to one of the kids in the house in Kakariko Village
that has the curse on them to get the wallet. Buy as much as possible with
the current amount of rupees. Go to Hyrule Field and run to the right,
towards Lon Lon Ranch. Run until a man running around like an idiot comes
into view. Follow him until he sits down and gets tired. Wear on the Bunny
Mask and talk to him. He will ask for the mask and fill Link's wallet with
rupees.
Money
from trees:
Run at tree as you Link and press A to roll and slam into
it. A skulltula or some rupees will usually fall out.
Rupees
from bugs:
Find a bug and then catch it in a bottle. Sell it to a merchant
that says "Can I buy something from you?". Show him the bug in the
bottle to get fifty rupees.
As a child, go to the
marketplace and leave towards Hyrule Castle. Just when you leave the
marketplace, there should be a tree. Break all of the rocks near the tree.
Under one of them are some bugs. Catch them and sell them to the beggar
under the balcony in the marketplace for 50 rupees each. Repeat this as many
times as desired.
Purple
ruby:
Kill any enemy with the light arrows to receive a purple ruby.
After shooting all of the
rupees with your arrow at the shooting gallery, every time you do it again
you will get a purple ruby that is worth fifty rupees.
Light
Arrows:
Shooting an opponent with a Light Arrow, usually results in fifty
rupees.
Rupees
at the Zora's River waterfall:
Put on the iron boots when Link is an adult at the big waterfall
on Zora's River. Fall into the waterfall to find red rupees where the
waterfall hits the river bottom.
As a child go to Zora's River
and walk towards the waterfall to Zora's Domain. While walking, you will see
a log in the water and a frog next to the log. Walk on the log and Navi will
say that the frogs are watching you from underwater. Stand on the edge of
the log, where you got that message, and play the Ocarina. Play any song
that you have learned. The frog will compliment your playing and will reward
you with 50 rupees. You can do this with every song you have learned and get
fifty rupees for each new song. Note: If a song is played more than once,
the frogs will only give you five rupees.
Gigantic
rupee:
To get an orange rupee that is as big as Link and worth 500
rupees, go to the Lost Woods with the Biggorons Sword equipped. Go left and
kill the lone Skull Kid. When he burns up, the giant orange rupee will
appear.
As an adult, go to the room in
Goron City that is filled with boulders. Take out bombs or the Megaton
Hammer and break all the tan or red colored boulders. They are the only
boulders that will break. There should be a small treasure chest on the left
side of the room .Open it to find a large yellow rupee worth 200 rupees.
As an adult, go to Gerudo
Fortress. Use the longshot to hook onto the wood over the jail cell. After
going up, jump onto the fortress on the left. When you land, you will see an
opening into the fortress in front of you. Go through the opening and walk
around till you see a passage to the left. Walk up the passage and use your
hookshot to hook onto the wood on the ceiling to get past the stone fence.
Walk up the ramp until you see an opening that leads outside. Walk through
the opening and you will be on a lookout that is directly above the jail
cell. When you get here, you will see a wooden crate. Destroy the crate to
find a giant pink-orange rupee. Note: This can only be done once, so do not
save.
Gold
Rupee:
To get the Gold Rupee without killing 100 spiders, go to the
village with the graveyard. Go to the tree that is there as soon as you
enter. Stand so you are facing the windmill and take ten steps forward. Lay
down a bomb and a hole should open in the ground. This may require a few
attempts. Go down the hole. Play the Sun Song to freeze the two zombies,
then kill them. After that, open the chest that is in the middle to get the
Gold Rupee. Note: This only works one time.
Actions
R2D2
appearance:
Go into the Bombchu Bowling Alley in the market as child Link.
Press C-Up to switch to the first-person look-around view. Look at
the music machine of the bowling alley to see that R2D2 has found an
interesting job.
Bowser
appearance:
As a child, when you go to wake up Talon in front of the castle
press C-Up to look at him while he is still asleep. You can see a
Bowser emblem on his chest.
Z-target
anything:
The following trick allows you to Z-target objects that cannot
normally be Z-targeted. Press A to check an object, and hold Z
while you read the description. Keep holding Z after the text
disappears, and you will be targeting it. Try this on the mat in front of
Darunia's room, the grave in the front of the graveyard, or the Triforce
symbols in the Great Fairies' homes.
Rolling
without using an arrow:
When in bow and arrow mode and holding the button waiting to fire
with nothing to shoot at, hold Z to enter targeting mode. Then,
without releasing the button assigned to the bow, press A. Link
should roll forward without using an arrow. This is especially useful when
you are running short on arrows.
The
chicken game:
When at Lon Lon Ranch, go visit Talon, the character you woke up
before at Hyrule Castle. Accept his offer when he asks if you want to play a
chicken game. To catch the three chickens, move to the corners of the room
and just start grabbing all the chickens. It helps if you watch where at
least one of them lands, to capture one quickly. As a reward for completing
the game, Link will receive a bottle of milk which restores five hearts to
his health.
To capture the chickens easily,
pick up all the chickens before talking to Talon. Place the chickens in the
corner between the table, the stairs, and Talon. They will stay there and
allow Link to find the super chickens without the other chickens wandering
around.
Go to Lon Lon Ranch as a child.
Take all the chickens and throw them in a corner. Then, talk to Talan saying
you want to play and simply pick out the only three.
To easily win this mini-game,
grab chickens. If it is not a special one, throw it on the stairs. Do this
repeatedly until you have found all three special chickens.
Extra
chicken:
Get the Longshot and go to the village as an adult. Go to the
roof with the man to see the windmill. You should also see an opening
without a door. Look closely at the opening to see a light brown object.
Shoot it with the Longshot and you should should see a staircase. Go up the
staircase to find a chicken. Pick it up, and go through the "fan".
You can go to that roof with that opening to get the heart by the cow.
Target
Cucco:
Enter Lon-Lon ranch, as an adult. Go to the former Super Cucco
room when it is empty of everything but chickens. Pick up a Cucco and equip
the Hover-Boots. Climb the stairs and jump towards the shelf opposite with a
crate and bucket on it. You will land underneath and see a shadow on the
shelf, where the crate should be but nothing above it. You will also see
just the front side of the bucket and crate. Throw the Cucco and it will fly
through the shelf, landing on top. After a while it will fall off the shelf.
You will now be able to Z-target this Cucco, but no others.
Cucco
attack:
Repeatedly assault a Cucco (chicken) with any weapon or run over
it with Epona. This will result in hundreds of chickens causing you lose
life when they attack. They cannot harm you if you are on Epona.
Trapped
by Cuccos:
As an adult, go to Kakariko village. Use your Longshot to get on
the blue roof with the man, then Longshot to the small post in the windmill.
Climb the stairs and grab the Cucco. Go down the waterless well with it, and
at the bottom, attack it to start a chicken attack. It will be very hard to
escape as the Cuccos will get you while you are on the ladder.
Invincible
to Cucco attack:
For a difficult challenge when you have made the Cuccos angry,
try to climb up the ladder to where the man says that he hates to see anyone
higher than him. Cuccos will keep trying to knock you down when you are on
the ladder, but if you manage to get to the top, you will be invincible from
any of their attacks.
This trick requires adult Link,
Epona, and her song. Get a Cocco in an area where Epona can get to you.
Start attacking it until it calls other Cuccos to kill you. When this
happens, take out your ocarina and play Epona's Song. Quickly get onto her,
and you will be invincible to their attacks.
Change
Gerudo Guards color:
After rescuing the last man in the Gerudo's Fortress, a woman
will appear and say that you are free to enter the fortress at any time.
When she finishes, change your clothes (green, red or blue). The Gerudo will
change the color of her lipstick, clothes and shoes. Note: This only works
once. When you return later or save the game, she will be gone for the rest
of the game.
Avoid
Stal Kids:
This trick lets you avoid the Stal Kids (annoying skeleton things
that rise from the ground of Hyrule Field at night). If you do not wish for
the Stal Kids to show themselves, simply wear the Bunny Mask.
Whenever you see Stal Kids at
night on the field, play the Sun's Son and they will disappear.
Big
Stal Kid:
As a Child, go to the sign in front of Hyrule Castle. Go in the
grass near it. Stay there and fight off all the Stal Kids. Eventually you
will see a big Stal Kid that is twice the size of Link after the moon is
halfway in the sky.
Get
inside Jabu-Jabu's belly:
Go into Zora's Domain. Go to the right of the shop and use an
empty bottle to catch a fish in the water. Take it and put it directly in
front of Jabu-Jabu's mouth. He will swallow you.
Finding
Saria:
When finding Saria, go to the Lost Woods and move in the
following directions: Right, Left, Right , Left, Straight, Left, Right. You
will then battle a dog-like creature. A few slashes with your sword will
kill him. You will then enter a maze with monsters that shoot nuts at you.
Use your Deku (fairy) shield to reflect them back at them. The maze is very
simple, You will then find Saria. She will talk and give you Saria's song
for your Ocarina.
Since the music cannot lead you
anymore, the way to the Forest Temple is Right, Left, Right , Left,
Straight, Left, Right. You can also get a shortcut there by going to the
entrance of Zora's Domain. Do not go inside. Stay on the bridge and go to
the right. There will be a small cave with a pool of water. Dive to the
bottom to find a warp to the Lost Woods. Mido will block the way, so play
Saria's Song.
Great
fairy locations:
Great fairy of power:
This Great fairy gives Link the "spin slash" attack. She is
located at Death Mountain, outside the crater to the left of the entrance,
behind a bomb-able wall.
Great fairy of wisdom:
This Great fairy doubles Link's magic meter. She is located inside the
Death Mountain crater. Face the entrance to Goron City (inside the
crater). A bridge will be to the right. Use the Megaton Hammer (obtained
after passing the Fire Temple) to destroy the rocks blocking the entrance.
Bombs will have no effect.
Great fairy of courage:
This Great fairy doubles adult Link's defensive powers. She is located
near Ganon's castle. Obtain the Golden Gauntlets inside Ganon's castle.
Use them to lift the column that is blocking the entrance, which is to the
right, when facing Ganon's tower.
Great fairy of magic:
This Great fairy is located at the same spot as the Great fairy of
courage when Link is a child. Use a bomb to open the entrance. She will
give Link a new spell, "Din's Fire".
Great fairy of magic:
She is located behind Zora's fountain, when Link is a kid. Move all
the way behind the fountain to find a piece of land. Then, destroy the
wall behind it. She will give Link a new spell, "Ferore's Wind".
Great fairy of magic:
This great fairy is located between the two palm trees at the desert
colossus. Use a bomb at the crack on the wall. She will give Link the
"Nayru's Love" spell.
Great
fairies:
During the game Navi will turn green and want to signal something
to you. Play the Sun's Song or the Song of Storms at that location. If there
is a Great fairy, it will appear. Note: You cannot capture the fairy in an
empty bottle.
Free
fairies:
Stand in front of a Gossip Stone and play Zelda's Lullaby and two
or three fairies will come out of it. Gossip Stones can be found right in
front or beside a temple or dungeon. Note: This may only be done once per
Gossip Stone.
Plant a Magic Bean and then
play the Song Of Storms as a child. The plant will grow and three fairies
will come out.
Play the Song Of Storms in
front of a Gossip Stone and a red Fairy will appear. Note: You cannot catch
it.
As an adult, go back in to the
Temple Of Spirits and die to get a Fairy.
Quick
fairies:
You can have up to four Bottles to do this trick. Play the
Prelude Of Light to warp to the Temple of Time. Go outside and go right. You
should see four Gossip Stones. Play Zelda's Lullaby in front of each one to
catch a Fairy. You will now have four Fairies, and your heart meter will
fill up whenever you die until you run out of Fairies. You can also use the
"Multiple bottle" trick to get more by exiting to a different
screen and returning.
Double
defense from magic fairy:
Get the Golden Gauntlets in Ganon's Castle. Then go outside the
castle and go the your left. Go to the big black block and grab it. An
intermission sequence will begin. Then, go in the small hole. Go on the
Triforce and play Zelda's Lullaby. The Great Fairy will give you double your
defense. Your Hearts should now have a white outline. This is very useful
against Iron Knuckles and Ganondorf. Note: Link must be an adult.
Fairies
fly or jump:
Go to any Fairy Fountain and do a backflip. The fairies will
"jump". Make a rolling attack and the fairies will fly down.
Big
Poe locations:
Big Poe locations are signified by a little Poe appearing when
you are not on a horse. Their locations are as follows:
Sign in front of Hyrule
Castle.
Overhang near Kakariko entrence.
Bush near northwest of field.
Tree in front of Lon Lon ranch.
Tree in southeast of field.
Choppable bushes near southeast of field.
Big gray rock.
Y-shaped intersection near where field turns into Gerudo terrain.
V-shaped wall near Lon Lon ranch.
Tree near Gerudo.
Poes
as extra life:
After you catch a Poe in a bottle, you can drink it and it will
refill your life. Be careful, as some will take away life.
Poe
type:
If the bottle with the Poe in it is dark purple, it will hurt
you. If it is bright purple, it will give you health.
Great
view of Zora's fountain with Gold Skulltula:
Note: The Silver Gauntlets and Lens Of Truth are required for
this trick. Go to where Link received "Ferore's Wind" at Zora's
fountain, at night. Life the rock in the middle using the sliver gauntlets.
Fall down the hole, then put on the Lens Of Truth and kill the Skulltulas.
Climb up the ladder and kill the Gold Skulltula. Look over the ledge to see
a great view of Zora's fountain
Flying
fireball:
Use Din's Fire while flying on a Magic Bean. The best place to
try this is Lake Hylia. The camera movement will change allowing you to see
Link flying around in a fireball. This works with every bean.
Get to
the top of the Spirit Temple:
Once in the Spirit Temple and at the switching walls, use your
longshot to snag the brick rectangle at the top of the wall.
Secret
passage in Deku Tree:
Note: You must have bombs to use the secret passage. In the Deku
Tree, after cutting the giant spider web in the middle off the floor, go
down the hole (where the web use to be located). Climb the block with the
moon on it, and enter the hole in the wall. Crawl through the hole in the
wall, go forward to a spider web, and burn it with a lit Deku stick. The
will be a plant there. Kill it and use a bomb to blow up the cracked wall
that was behind it. This will open to a room with a golden Skulltula, which
was not on the map before.
Delay
Deku Tree dying:
After you defeat the first Boss(Qeen Ghoma) the Deku Tree dies.
There is a way to delay this. Immediately after you defeat the Boss, save
the game and turn off the Nintendo 64. Resume the game, and you will start
in the entrance to the Deku Dungeon. Walk out and the Deku Tree will still
be alive. However, Navi will want you to go back through the dungeon and
come back out via the warp in the Boss area. If you do this, the Deku tree
will go through his long explanation of Ganondorf -- and die and dries out
as originally intended.
Make
magic beans grow:
Play the Song Of Storms next to a magic bean to make it grow.
Get
get out of the room with the slingshot without shooting the ladder:
When you enter the room, do not jump onto the floating platform.
Instead, jump down and climb up the vines on the other side, get the
slingshot, then jump back.
Spooky
Mask on a ReDead:
When you are in the Royal Family's Tomb, get the Sun's Song. Stun
all three ReDead with it, and slash one three times while Z-targeting. Then,
press C-Up. If you can get a good view, it will seem as if the ReDead
is wearing the Spooky Mask.
Trading
all the masks:
Fox Mask
Royal Guard at the edge of Kakariko Village on the way up to Death
Mountain.
Skull Mask
In the Lost Forest. Enter the forest and move to the left. Hop on the
tree stump while wearing the mask and play Saria's Song. The Skull Kid
will then ask Link for the mask.
Spooky Mask
Sell it to the boy in the Graveyard in Kakariko Village.
Bunny Mask
Sell it to the man running around in the Hyrule Field by Lon Lon
Ranch. You must first beat the Forest Temple as Adult Link and then travel
back in time to find the jogger.
Mask of Truth
With this mask Link can talk to the "Gossip Stones" that
have the eye on them. They will reveal helpful hints throughout the game.
Hatless
man at the pond:
Get very close to the man at the fishing pond and cast your line.
It may take a couple of tries, but if you aim correctly you can steal his
hat. If you can spare thirty rupees, walk out into the middle of the pond
with the Iron Boots. Cast a few times, and his hat will come off. The man
will be hatless for the rest of the game.
Shark
at Lake Hylia:
At Lake Hylia, go into the house where the old man lives. Put on
the Iron Boots and Zora Tunic then jump into the pool in his house. Look to
your left when underwater to see a shark in a cage.
Hear
an underwater chicken:
As an Adult, go to Lake Hylia and swim to the center of the lake.
Put on the Iron Boots wait until morning to hear a chicken while underwater.
Swim
faster:
Press B repeatedly in deep water to swim faster. This is
helpful if one of the monsters in Lake Hylia is after you.
Walk
on water:
Get the Hover Boots and find a lake or another body of water.
While wearing the boots, Link will be able to walk on water for a few
seconds.
Fix a
broken sign:
After slashing a sign and breaking it, play Zelda's Lullaby while
standing in front of the pieces.
Jumping
sign:
You must be an adult with the Megaton Hammer to do this trick. Go
to a square sign and hit it with the Megaton Hammer so there is one full
piece of sign laying on the ground. Then, hit the ground next to the sign
rapidly with the Megaton Hammer to see the sign jump.
Chicken
attack:
As in previous games in the series, if Link approaches a chicken
and hurts it in some way, it will call for others to attack. The attack can
be stopped by entering door or leaving the area.
Alternate
jumping sword attack sound:
You can make Link's jumping sword attack sound differently. To do
this, place Link on the middle of a set of stairs, facing toward the top.
Then press B to get the sword out, then press A while holding Z
to perform the attack. It will sound much louder if you do this.
Underwater
wolf sound:
Go underwater and use the Song Of Light. When it is night you
will hear the wolf noise, but it will sound like it is underwater.
Jump
further:
Take your sword out, then jump off of an object. Press A
while in the middle of your jump.
Link sometimes cannot normally
jump over small fences. To do so, face in the opposite direction where you
want him to jump. Hold Back then press A. This is helpful if
you want to get on the roof at Kakario village as a child, but you have to
land on the fence and carefully walk across it. Note: You will lose a heart
piece, or half a heart depending if you saw the fairy that halves damage.
Run off a ledge so that Link
jumps. While he is in the air, press B and he will take his sword
out, making him go farther.
Silent
running:
Keep pressing Z while running to run faster and silently.
Easy
aiming:
Use the following trick to complete the Gerudo Archery Course
easily, shoot all ten Big Poes, or hit anything with the bow. Take some time
and use a dry-erase marker, crayon, or any other removable mark to draw a
cross hair on the screen.
Invincibility
from Shadow Temple spikes:
Wear the Goron's Tunic when in the room with the invisible spikes
in the Shadow Temple to avoid injury. Link will just walk over them.
Get
into Hyrule Gate without climbing:
To get in to Hyrule Gate without climbing the gate, talk to the
guard until asks for 10 rupees to allow you to enter. It is better to do
this at night.
Play
sword as though it were an ocarina:
Set a not-so-useful item to C-Down, such as Zelda's letter
or a bottle bug. Walk up to a large cliff and jump off. Press C-Down
+ B just as Link lands. If done correctly, Link will be holding his
sword next to his mouth, and it can be played as it were an ocarina. The
notes will be strange, and you cannot use the different songs as though it
were an actual ocarina.
Running
man in Gerudo Valley:
The running man will always beat you by one second no matter how
fast you run.
Multiply
bugs:
Capture or buy a bug, then dump them on the ground. Three of them
should appear. Use the same jar to capture the first bug. Bring out another
jar and catch one of the other bugs that are on the ground. Repeat to
multiply the number of bugs that have been captured. This is useful when
hunting the Gold Skulltulas in the soft soil.
Coming
down from Death Mountain:
Talk to Capoera Gobera (the owl) when at the top of Death
Mountain as a child. He will take you down the mountain.
Gossip
Stones:
The clock stones or stones that look like grave stones are
actually useful. Use the Mask Of Truth and talk to it. Instead of telling
you nothing, the stone reacts to your mask and it tells you some interesting
things.
Gossip
Stone blast off:
Drop a bomb near a Gossip Stone. It will begin blinking blue and
blast off into space. If the stone hits anything (such as the ceiling in a
secret grotto), it will explode like a bomb.
Drop a bomb near a Gossip Stone
and wait for it to explode. The stone will start blinking blue, blue, blue,
red before launching. Hit the stone while it is blue to keep it at that
color. To keep it red, wait until it flashes blue three times, then press B
to hit it while it is gray.
Stretching
a Gossip Stone:
Hit a Gossip Stone with the Megaton Hammer. Alternatively, stand
in front of a Gossip Stone and use Din's Fire.
Malon's
obstacle course:
Return to Lon Lon Ranch after getting Talon to go back home (by
waking him up with the Cucco the girl in Kakariko Village gives Link).
Complete Malon's obstacle course at as an adult (talk to her while on Epona)
in under fifty seconds. If successful, she'll give Link a cow! It will be at
his house in Kokiri Forest. Use it to get Lon Lon Milk by playing Epona's
Song in front of the cow.
Free
Fairies:
Play Zelda's Lullaby in front of a Gossip Stone and they will
give you a free Fairy. Play the Song of Storms in front of a Gossip Stone
and it will give you a Big Fairy. Get a butterfly to land on a Deku stick
and it will turn into a Fairy. Slowly walk towards the butterfly with a Deku
Stick out; this requires patience. Play the Song of Storms near a soft patch
of soil with a Magic Bean planted. It will grow and produce three regular
Fairies.
Ending
bonus:
Successfully complete the game and wait at the "The
End" screen. Eventually, the Scarecrow's Song will begin playing with
different instruments.
Extra
challenge:
To add to the challenge of completing the game, try skipping
almost all of the heart-extending power-ups gained from defeating the
Bosses. For example, you may want to win and save a game where you have
beaten Gannon with a life meter with a maximum capacity of five hearts. For
a very serious challenge, try completing the game without picking up any
life-extending heart containers.
Exploring
the underwater cave in Zora's Domain :
Enter Zora's Domain as a child. Go up to the Zora that offers the
diving game for twenty rupees. Talk to him and play the game. After diving
in the water swim to the right, to the ladder. Climb the ladder and wait for
the diving game timer to run out. When it reaches one, jump off. If Link is
in the air when time runs out, he will hit the water and sink to the bottom.
After reaching the bottom, he can swim into the little cave (which is
empty).
Keep
Fire Room pathway from sinking:
The main pathway in the Fire Room of Ganon's Castle can be kept
from sinking. Equip the Hover Boots and instead of jumping onto the main
pathway, roll onto it. You will hover over it, then come down onto it. The
main pathway will not sink. To keep it in this state, keep the Hover Boots
equipped and always roll onto the to the main pathway when returning.
Carry
up to 20 Deku Sticks:
As Link enters the Lost Woods from the Kokiri Forest as a child,
go through the tunnel to the left. Link will be in the room with the
skeleton. Then, take a left. A Deku Shrub will begin shooting at Link as he
walks under the bridge. Defeat him to gain the ability to hold twenty Deku
Sticks.
Save
Deku Sticks:
You do not have to let a Deku Stick burn out after setting it on
fire. Put it away before it burns out by selecting another weapon that you
have ready to use. For example, if you have a burning stick that is equipped
with C-Right, press C-Down or C-Left button before it
burns out to get that weapon and put the stick away. This will save that
stick from burning out and allow you to have the same amount of sticks.
Super
Deku Stick:
Place a Deku Stick in Link's hand and jump off a cliff. While
falling, swing the stick against the cliff wall to break it. The piece that
remains in Link's hand can be used repeatedly, and is stronger than most
swords in the game. Note: This super stick will disappear when you switch
items, leave an area, or dive in the water.
Catch
fish in bottle for free:
You can catch a fish in a bottle without paying. Just go to any
secret grotto or the area of Zora's Domain to the right of the store. There
are fish swimming there. Just swing the bottle at the fish and it will be
caught.
After
hours shopping:
Try this trick if you have completed the game and want to try
something new. Enter a shop that has a door (and not one that can be simply
walked in). Play the Sun's Song and to be inside the store at night, when it
would normally open in the morning.
Destiny
revealed:
At any point in the game, go to Link's home in Kokiri Forest. If
you look closely at the base of the tree to the left of the ladder, you will
see a picture. It is a picture of young Link fighting Kind Dodongo, the Boss
of Death Mountain.
Easy
way past the Gerudo:
To knock out a Gerudo thief, simply shoot her with an arrow. To
freeze her, use the hookshot or longshot.
Escaping
the Gerudo Fortress dungeon:
When a Gerudo catches you while walking around, they will yell
and throw you in a room with no door. Use the Longshot or Hookshot to pull
yourself up to the wooden ledge. You may now jump off and walk around again.
Raising
the water in the Water Temple:
In the Water Temple, there is a section where you have to push a
block into some water to raise the water level. An easier way to do this is
use the Iron Boots. Jump into the water and stand on the switch. Get very
close to the edge and switch to your normal boots. Resume the game and
immediately hold Forward to swim. It looks as if you will not make
it, but he will jump up to the ledge at the last second.
Pushed
by Epona:
Go to Lon Lon Ranch as a child. Stand in front of Epona and play
Epona's Song. She will push you across the ranch.
Make
Epona cry:
While on Epona, shoot an arrow to the head. The horse will
"cry".
Mad
guard:
Go to the castle courtyard as a child where you first met Zelda.
After passing the guards, go to the room where Zelda is standing. Facing
Zelda, from the entrance, go over to the window at the left from the
entrance. With the Fairy Slingshot, shoot a few Deku Seeds at that window
and one of the King's guards will stick his head out of the window. He will
say " Hey, you, stop making noise out there!". After that he will
throw a lit bomb in your direction and disappear. Run if you are low on
health. Note: This trick cannot be done if you have gotten the Gorons' Ruby,
and can only be done once.
Dying
soldier:
After recovering the Ocarina Of Time out of the moat or stream,
go into the alleyway by the Bombuchu Shop to see a soldier who was just
attacked by Ganon.
Walk
on castle gate:
Go to the castle gate in the morning as a child. There will be a
chain on both ends of the gate to pull it up at night. Walk all the way up
to the top without falling off. You could also get some rupees by jumping
off to the opposite side from where you are standing.
Target
practice on a Flying Tektite:
Go to Lake Hylia, then take the Megaton Hammer out and pound it
on the ground to make the Tektite flip upside down. Note: The Tektite has to
be on the water. Then, stun it with your Hookshot. When it is no longer
stunned you will see it flying into the air. Use your bow to shoot it and
the Tektite will fall on the ground. If you do this without the bow it will
look funny to see it flying into the air.
Use
shield in water:
Hop into any body of water where you can swim. Hold Z + R
to take out your shield. You can now swim around with your shield.
Hit
Link with boulders:
When going up Death Mountain to see the first Great Fairy, equip
the Kokori Shield. When the boulders start falling, pause the game and equip
the Hylian Shield. Press Start and hold R. When Link appears
again, he will be equipped with the Hylian Shield, but will not be bent
over. Instead he squats down, as if he is holding the Kokori Shield. When
the boulders come down, they will hit Link, but they will bounce off as if
they were hitting the Hylian Shield.
Squatting
Link:
Warp to the Lost Woods as an adult. Kill the Moblins that stand
in your way to get to the ladder that takes you to the Fairy Fountain. Climb
the ladder, and go down the hole to the fountain. Walk towards the square
that takes you back to the woods one step at a time. It is crucial that you
move slowly, step by step. If you did not go too far and warp out, it will
appear that Link is squatting. Try this trick with various tunics.
Hold R with the Deku
shield equipped. Keep holding R and press Start. Equip the
Hylian shield. Go back to the game and Link will be holding out his arm as
if he were holding the Deku shield.
Diving
Link:
After entering Zora's Domain as an Adult, go to the top of the
waterfall where as a child you received the Silver Scale. Jump off and Link
will dive into the ice. Note: This only works once, so do not save.
Juggling
Link:
Equip the Biggoron Sword or Giant's Knife and the Megaton Hammer.
Constantly switch the weapon (press B then C). Link will
appear to be juggling the sword and hammer.
Sneezing
Link:
Walk Link into a fairy's fountain or the ice caverns. Stand there
for awhile he will eventually sneeze.
Play the Song Of Storms as a
child in the windmill and stand on the spinning disk. Link will shiver, then
sneeze.
Scratching
Link:
Get on Epona and stand at the Lon Lon Ranch entrance.
Turning
backflip:
Go to Kokiri Forest as an adult and proceed as if you are going
to Hyrule Field. When you get on the bridge, repeatedly do backflips until
you return to Kokiri Forest, at which point Link will do a turning backflip.
Take
out sword without swinging:
Press B to take out your sword while in the middle of a
backflip (hold Z + Down and press A).
Purple
Cuccos:
Go to Bombchu Bowling Alley, play, and win. Do not play again.
Press C-Up and look at the Cuccos to see a little purple in the
feathers.
Sages
on Koume and Kotake's entry portals to the Spirit Temple Boss Room:
When Koume enters the boss room, get a good look and you will see
the Fire Medallion. When Kotake enters the room, get a good look and you
will see the Water Medallion.
See
stars:
Go to Gerurdo Fortress. Shoot an arrow at a Gerurdo. When it
falls to the ground, press C-Up and look at the head. You will see
stars. If it does not work, go in the hideout and try again.
Matrix-style
move:
This trick can only be done after you have the boomerang.
Whenever you kill a Gold Skulltula and the gold skull token appears,
Z-target it and throw your boomerang. When it snags it, immediately before
your boomerang returns to you, do a backflip. Link will bend over backwards
as if he were dodging bullets.
Finding
the royal family tomb:
Go to the Kakariko Village graveyard in the daytime as a child.
Then, go to the hill in the back with the large grave stone. Stand on the
Hylian Seal (the Triforce) that is etched in the ground. Play Zelda's
Lullaby on the Fairy Ocarina. Lightning will flash and the grave stone will
explode, leaving a hole that is entrance to the royal family tomb.
Go to the cemetery and approach
the Royal Tomb. Stand on the Triforce mark on the ground and play Zelda's
Lullaby. The tomb will open and you must jump in. Shoot the bats with your
slingshot and a door will open. Enter it. There are three Bosses here. They
cannot be stunned because they are undead. They will freeze you, jump on
you, and suck the life out of you. To prevent this, carry a bottle of Lon
Lon milk. They will freeze you at least once. Repeatedly slice them to kill
them. You do not have to kill all of them too pass. Also, if they fall into
the acid pits they cannot get out, but the acid only hurts you. Dash to the
other door across the room to find an inscription and the Sun Song. You will
not be teleported out. You must fight your way back because the bosses
regenerate after you leave the room. Escape and use the Sun Song to change
day to night and night to day.
Finding
the Forest stage:
To find the Forest Stage, go to the Lost Woods and go right,
left, right, left, and left. Pass the Business Scrubs to reach the grassy
area. Go to where the butterflies are flying and search there to find and
fall into a hidden hole. Wear any mask down in that location to get
different items. If Link gets shot by nuts, exit, then go back down for
another result.
Quicker
transportation:
After you get the last spiritual stone, go back to Lake Hylia and
swim to the island with the big tree. Go up the bridge and you will find the
owl. Talk to himm and he says he will give you a ride to the castle. Accept
his offer. When he puts you down, it will go from bright daylight to stormy
night. You will then watch Impa and Zelda flee from the castle.
Avoid
sinking platform in Ganon's Tower:
Enter Ganon's Tower and find the Fire Stage. If you equip the
Hover Boots, the large platform will not begin sinking when you step on it.
Fly
over Kakariko Village:
As and adult, get the Longshot and go on top of a roof in
Kakariko village that is near the windmill. When looking through the first
person view with the Longshot, you can see a small stake in the opening. Use
your Longshot to hook it and pull yourself inside the windmill. Go up the
stairs to find a chicken. Pick it up and jump out the window with it. You
are now flying over Kakariko village. After some practice, you should be
able to fly right out of town.
Go
higher than windmill in Kakariko Village:
In Kakariko Village, you can go higher than the top of the
windmill. As an adult, use your Longshot to go on the roof of Impa's house.
Use your Hover Boots, and you can cross to the cliff just over the entrance
of the village.
Inside
the windmill in Kakariko Village:
There is a secret hole in the windmill which you can enter.
First, climb up the watchtower. Using the Longshot, shoot down to the blue
roof when a man is sitting. From the roof, go as close as you can to the
edge nearest to the windmill. An attachable target is around the bottom left
corner. Hookshot there, and you will be inside the windmill on the Kakariko
village map. The only thing in there is a staircase and Cucco. You can use
the Cucco to fly over to Impa's house to get some milk from the cow.
Good
view in Kakariko Village:
Take out your Longshot or Hookshot and shoot at one of the roofs.
You can go from roof to roof this way. If you want a good view, go on the
dummy window on Impa's house (the house that is on the far right when you
enter) by using the Hookshot or Longshot to go on the roof. Then, press C-Up
and look around.
Lookout
tower man in Kakariko Village:
The man on the lookout tower in Kakariko Village will say that he
always has to be up the highest and hates people who are higher than him.
There is a way to get higher than him. Go to Kakariko Village as an adult
and use the hookshot to get to the high opening in the windmill. Walk up to
the place with the chicken, and if you look at the man on the lookout you
will be at a higher elevation the him.
Reach
the wooden ledge in Kakariko Village:
When you are a child, go to the top of Death Mountain and talk to
Capora Gabora, the owl. He will fly you down to the wooden ledge behind the
house in Kakariko Village. Go into the hole and get the Heart Piece. You can
also play Epona's Song to get Lon Lon milk in an empty bottle from the cow.
Followed
by dog in castle market:
As a child, go to the Hyrule castle market at night. Let a dog
follow you then play the Sun's Song to go to day. The same dog will be
following you. Nobody will notice it, but if you go in a place such as a
shop or the Temple Of Time the dog will disappear.
Also, after getting the dog to
follow you, play the Sun's Song. Go up to its owner and you can listen to
her talking about the dog that is not there. You can also try this with
other dogs.
Get on
pedestal in Temple Of Time:
While you are in the Temple Of Time, you can jump on to the
pedestal thing with the stones. Get close and hold Z. Then, press A.
If done correctly, you will be on the pedestal with the stones.
Never
get lost in the Lost Woods:
Try this trick to avoid all of those exit portals in the Lost
Woods (the giant log tunnels that warp Link back out). First, fire child
Link's slingshot or boomerang (or Long Shot if playing as an adult) into an
exit portal. If it is an exit portal (a dead end), you will hear your
projectile ricochet off something solid. Or, to save ammunition, just turn
up the brightness on your screen and look at the color of the portal. All of
the plain black portals are "safe" and will not warp you back out
of the Lost Woods.
If you see what looks like a
flat black sheet, it is safe to go through. However, if you see a portal
that looks like a very long hall way leading away then it is not safe.
When you enter through Kokiri
Forest go in the following directions: right, left, right, left, up, left,
right. To get past Mido when you are an adult, play Saria's Song.
You can navigate throgh the
Lost Woods without ending up back outside. If it is a hole that goes
outside, get close to it. You will see a faded light. Go to the ones that
are completely black. You can find warps to other places like Zora's River
or Goron City.
Crossing
the River of Sand:
Either aim your Longshot at a crate on the other side of the
river or wear the Hover Boots and just walk across.
Warp
from dungeon to dungeon:
Note: You must have Farore's Wind to do this trick. Place a warp
point in any dungeon. You can now warp there from any dungeon. You do not
even have to be in the same dungeon as the warp point. Note: Warp points
will disappear if you travel between the past and future.
Zelda
2: The Adventure Of Link references:
All of the Sages (Darunia, Ruto, Saria, Nabooru, and Rauru)
except Impa and Zelda have the names of towns that appear in Zelda 2: The
Adventure Of Link on the NES.
In addition to the sages, the
villagers at Link's Deku homeland have the names of the towns in Zelda 2:
The Adventure Of Link.
Getting
the Scarecrow Song:
As a child, go to Lake Hylia and talk to the scarecrow named
Bruno. Show him your ocarina and he will want you to play a song -- you make
up the song. Play until he says that will remember it. Then, play the Temple
Of Light song and turn into an adult. Go to where the scarecrow is located
and play him the same song as before to get the Scarecrow Song.
Frog
Song:
Go to Zora's River, walk on the log that Navi points out to you,
then play all the songs (Saria's Song, Song of Storms, Zelda's Lullaby and
the other songs that do not warp. After that, when they ask you to play a
song to feed them (each frog represents a different note) quickly play these
notes: A, C-Left, C-Right, C-Down, C-Left,

Different
Ocarina sounds:
Move the Analog-stick while playing notes on the Ocarina
You can also play songs that sound different by holding Analog-stick Down.
Playing
the Ocarina while running around on the field:
First, choose a song (in the list on your status screen).
Immediately after you press A to play the song, hold Analog-stick
Up. You must then press B(2) to exit the pause screen. You can
now run around and press the C buttons and A to play your
Ocarina.
Combat
Kill
the rolling Goron:
To kill the giant rolling Goron in Goron City, bomb him about ten
times. After the ninth bombing, he will grunt and the other Goron's will run
out to kill you. Note: The rolling Goron can not be killed if the bomb bag
has already been obtained from him.
One
hit kills in Ice Cavern:
Use Din's Fire for a one hit kill for anything, including the
wolves. Make sure you have a lot of magic.
Defeating
Business Scrubs:
When business scrubs try to make a deal with you, simply hit the
ground (not the platform) and all the Scrubs will be easily defeated.
To make a Business Scrub stop
firing at you, just hit the ground with the Megaton Hammer.
Defeating
Dark Link:
During the battle with the Dark Link in the Water Temple, press Z
to lock on to him, then press Forward + B to jab at him until
he is defeated.
The best way to kill Dark Link
is with the Megaton Hammer. When you enter the room, go to the far end and
turn around. Dark Link will be waiting. When the battle starts, do not lock
onto him. Instead, equip the Megaton Hammer. Use the Megaton Hammer when
Dark Link is close during the battle.
An alternate strategy is to get
close to him and use Din's Fire until he is defeated.
The absolute fastest way to
kill Dark Link is to use the jabbing method (lock on to him, then press Forward
+ B) continuously while using the Biggoron's Sword. If done correctly
and fast enough, he will die before he starts attacking Link.
Start the battle with at least
one fairy and the Biggorn Sword. Lock on to Dark Link and press Z + B
to stab him. Continue to do this until Dark Link is defeated. Stay away from
him when he attacks because you cannot block with the Biggorn Sword.
If you stab at Dark Link
(Z-target and press B), he will jump onto your sword. After he does
this a few times, he will start to hit you. A good way to kill him is to
keep attacking nonstop, mixing overhead swings (Forward + B)
and horizontal swings (Side + B). Eventually, Dark Link will
drop his guard and you will score a hit.
While facing Dark Link, equip
the Biggoron's Sword before you enter the room. Enter and after you see Dark
Link, Z-target him and move the Analog-stick Down/Back. Then. strike
him by moving forward and pressing B. Repeat this and you should be
done in no time.
Do not use Z-targeting. He does
everything you do, and that includes Z-targeting. Instead, just fight
normally, and when you jab with ZT, he just stands on your sword and hits
you. It will be a fairer fight without him locking on to you no matter what.
You will need the Green Potion
and Din's Fire. Stand still, Z-target him, and raise your shield. When he
comes near, use Din's Fire. He will disappear, and appear behind you. Repeat
this until you run out of magic. Drink your Green Potion, hit him once more,
and he will die.
Dark Link copies your sword and
shield attacks and evades everything else except the Megaton Hammer. It
always hits Dark Link. You can also use Din's Fire if you have the MP.
Lock on him and shoot with an
arrow. He will dodge it and roll towards you, however he will roll back
immediately. To take advantage of this, shoot an arrow and immediately take
out the Biggoron Sword and hit him. After this, he will repeatedly come up
to you and stand there until hit.
When you venture close to Dark
Link, he will most often backflip away. Keep using your jump attack and you
will eventually catch him. After that, repeat the process until you defeat
him.
The easiest way to defeat Dark
Link is with the Megaton Hammer. Although he mimics your moves, he is not as
swift as he would like to be. Since he does mimic you, get directly in his
face. He will not hit you because you are not hitting him. Without
Z-targeting him, hit him with the hammerHe will pop up behind you after he
is hit. Quickly turn around and repeat. You should be able to take him out
without getting hit.
Get Dark Link to start fighting
you. Get to some distance from him, then let him approach. Wait until he
starts madly slashing you, then smash him vertically with the Megaton
Hammer. He will go straight through the ice. Turn around and he will be
running towards you again. As soon as he gets to you, smash him again. Turn
around again. Again, he will be approaching you. Repeat the same tactic
about five times and you will defeat him.
Using this trick, you can
defeat Dark Link in the Water Temple without getting hit. Before you fight
him, make sure that you have a Broken Giant's Knife. Equip the Iron Boots
and the Broken Giant's Knife. When he begins to attack, notice that neither
of you can move very easily, disabling the CPU's ability to dodge most of
your attacks. Also, since the Giant's Knife is a two-handed sword, they
cannot use their shields. The sword is too short for the CPU to have Dark
Link jump on; continuously thrust the sword at him (forward and attack). He
will not be able to move in time and will not be able to guard against it.
Note that once yuo hit him, he reappears by the tree in the center of the
room -- keep your guard up. This is a very good strategy if you are doing
the Three Heart quest. If you do not have a Giant's Knife and are not able
to hold 200 rupees, you can use Din's Fire, if available. Make sure that he
is not doing a back flip when you start it, or he will end up too far away
to hit. Also, if you need some time to strategize, you can trap him on the
other side of the tree.
A very easy way to defeat Dark
Link in the water temple is take out the Megaton Hammer and Z-target him.
Simply hit him with it and he will fall into the ground and reappear. Do
this another four or five times to defeat him.
Do not focus on Dark Link using
Z. Instead, just aim in his general direction and repeatedly press B.
Dark Link has a difficult time predicting your moves without Z. After
ten to fifteen slashing attempts and slips up, you will hit him.
Use the Deku Nuts to paralyze
him, then hit him with the Biggoron Sword or Megaton Hammer. It will not be
necessary to cover yourself. By doing this, you will have twenty free hits,
which is more than enough for a sure win.
Defeating
Ganon:
Note: The following strategy is for defeating "Ganon"
the Monster, not "Ganondorf the Great King of Evil". Equip the
Megaton Hammer then run at Ganon. When he raises his arm to slice you or hit
you with his sword, immediately roll between his legs. Then Z-lock his tail
and use the jump attack. This strategy works when you get the Master Sword
back from past the Ring Of Fire.
Fire a light arrow at his face
to singe his eyes. When you can hit him, run around him, hit his tail with
the Biggoron's sword, and run with him. Hit him as you run around. Try to
stay behind him or underneath him.
For a harder challenge, try to
defeat Ganon without using any magic from your magic meter, wear the hover
boots during the fight, and use a broken giants knife as the only weapon.
When you are fighting the last
battle with Mutant Ganon, you do not need to use a sword. You can instead
use the Light Arrow on his tail. Paralyze him first or sneak behind him,
then shoot.
When fighting Mutant Ganon, run
to the blocks at the edge of the arena and have Ganon break them. If you are
lucky, fairies will appear from of one of the blocks.
Use the following trick to beat
Ganon the huge pig beast. Make sure you have at least two green potions and
thirty Deku Nuts. Use Naryu's Love and you will be invincible. After using
the spell, just run around Ganon and start throwing nuts at him. The first
one will stun him and give you time to circle around him and throw another
nut at his tail. This will hurt him. Also, you can use the hookshot to stun
him by shooting it into his face. Try any other items that you want to.
To help defeat Ganon at the end
of the game after you retrieve the Master Sword, you can throw Deku Nuts to
stun him. When you do this, make sure you are close enough to get behind him
to attack his tail with the sword, because this only stuns him for a few
seconds. You can also throw a Deku Nut at his tail.
When Link and Zelda run through
the castle and escape, you will see the castle falling down. You hear a
noise. Walk up to the rubble and Ganondorf will appear and change into
Ganon. He will knock your Master Sword away. Equip the Megaton Hammer, or
even better, the Biggoron's Sword if you managed to get it. When he is about
to hit you, roll between his legs and hit his tail. Just follow him around
in a circle when you are behind him. Hit him on the tail for to six times.
He will fall to his knees. Grab your Master Sword from where Zelda is
located. Ganon will rise again and become quicker. Equip your Light Arrows
and shoot him in the head. Then, when he is stunned, hit his tail with your
Master Sword. An easier technique is to simply roll between his legs when he
is about to attack you. Hit his tail again with the Master Sword. Do this
about nine times and he will fall down. Deliver the final hit when Zelda
tells you to.
While fighting Ganon, you do
not need the Light Arrows. As soon as he is close to you he will do a
spear/sword combo. Just roll under his legs, find his tail quickly, and
lunge with the Biggoron Sword or Megaton Hammer. Do not be afraid of getting
close to him -- if you are behind his fist when he does the slash with his
sword, you will be fine.
Use the following trick to
dodge Ganon's dangerous sword slash attack. It is recommended for more
experienced players. When Ganon swings his huge double bladed sword at you,
wait until the sword is a few feet away then do a backflip. You should be
able to backflip over the attack.
Shoot his hand with an Ice
Arrow. He will try to free his hand by hitting it with his other hand. You
can then go for his tail.
When you are running down the
side of Gannon's castle, you can equip the Hover Boots or Kokori Boots
(recommended). When you get to the point where you meet up with the Stalfos,
have the Big Goron Sword equipped. This will inflict more damage, and will
cut your battle time in half. You will be awarded with a number of hearts.
When facing Gannon, have the Master Sword equipped and proceed to the
rubble. Gannon will come out and change into a huge monster with two swords.
His attack are the same each time. He will lift up his two swords to swing
at you. Run towards him, roll under his legs, and attack his tail. When you
lose the Master Sword, take out the Big Goron Sword, Hammer, or Bombs, and
proceed. When you lose the Master Sword, he will become slightly faster.
Simply run a little faster and repeat.
Use the following trick if you
are low on arrows and magic. When Ganon is about to attack, he stands up
legs open, giving you the perfect opportunity to roll under and do a quick
spin.
Defeating
Phantom Ganon:
He will first get on a horse and ride into one of the paintings.
He will then appear and fire an electric bolt at Link. He also has a
duplicate, so it is easy to get confused. To tell them apart, the real one
has a battle ax. After you do this three times, he will jump of his horse
and fight Link. He will fire an energy ball at you. You can dodge it, but
must kill him with your sword. No items will hurt him -- to kill him you
must reflect the energy at him. Hit it with your sword and it will bounce
back and hopefully hit him. However, he can also hit it back. When he falls,
slice him with your sword and repeat until he is defeated.
When you have gotten him off
his horse, Z-target him, then attack the magic that he uses. If it goes back
and hits him, stop Z-targeting. Run there and attack him with your sword. If
done correctly, you while be able to hit him four times instead of just two.
After you engage in battle with
Phantom Ganon at the Forest Temple and he enters the pictures on the wall,
quickly run over to the ropes around the side of the platform on which you
are standing. As long as you are against the ropes, Phantom Ganon cannot
hurt you when he attacks. This includes when he is riding the horse through
the pictures, or when he is floating around in the air. Note: The only
exception to this is when he uses the attack that looks like fireworks. When
he starts the attack and begins to fly toward you, just scale left or right
along the ropes so that he misses you, then continue fighting.
Finding
items when fighting Ganon:
If you are low on arrows, magic power, hearts, and other items in
the last battle with the mutant Ganon, some of the Debra that are lying
around contain items. Lure Ganon over to one and hide behind it. Ganon will
smash it with his sword and the items will come floating out.
Ganon's
castle's sinking floor:
In the fire room in Ganon's castle, the floor sinks while you are
on it. To keep it from sinking, equip the Hover Boots while walking on it.
Defeating
Ganondorf:
When Ganondorf creates a gap on the floor when you are fighting
him, do not jump it and lose valuable hitting time. Instead, before entering
the room with Ganondofr, equip the Hover Boots. Then, when he is down on the
floor after playing "Tennis" with him, fly across using your hover
boots and swing your sword at him. Doing this saves valuable time and it is
quicker and easier then jumping across and waiting for Link to land.
Make sure you have the Longshot
and Light Arrows equipped. Three bottled fairies are not required, but they
can be very useful. Big fairies are also useful, because they can restore
your magic. When you reach the room where Ganondorf plays the organ, move to
a far corner after he talks to you. While at that location, deflect his
shots with the Master Sword. When he is hit, shoot him with a Light Arrow.
He can now be targeted. Do so, then use the Longshot to reach him quickly to
hit him with the Master Sword. As soon as he gets up again, move back to the
corner. If you run low on magic, go to the lower level and break the bottles
for more.
You can hit Ganondorf with the
Light Arrow when he is charging up for his super fireball.
On the first stage, hit him
with the Light Arrow then hit him with the Big Sword or Megaton hammer.
After two to four hits you will have him on his knees. When fighting Ganon
on the second stage, you do not have to use the Light Arrows -- after he
swings his sword at you, roll under his knees and strike him with the
Megaton Hammer or The Big Sword. Repeat this until you get the Master Sword.
After you get the sword, do the same thing but do not wait to strike.
Z-target his tail so you see it, and strike about six to nine times.
Make sure you have the
Biggoron's Sword and the defensive power-up (with the Golden Gauntlets, go
out of Ganon's Castle, then go left to find a group of rocks, then a giant
rock. Lift that rock and play Zelda's Lullaby on the Triforce in the room
ahead). After getting the defensive power-up, go back to Ganondorf. He will
use three different attacks. His first one, no matter what you do, is where
he gathers a little bit of power and slams the ground with his fist. You
cannot deflect this. In another attack, he shoots a single fireball at you.
Deflect it with your sword, the Megaton Hammer, or a bottle. When he gathers
lots of power and fires many fireballs at you, use the Biggoron's Sword.
Hold B and wait until the power around the sword is yellow/orange.
Then, release it when you are about to be hit by the fireballs. If timed
correctly, they will all be deflected and you will have escaped unscathed.
Some of the deflected fireballs will have hit Ganondorf, and you can
continue the battle as usual. When you have killed him, escape the tower
with Zelda, and eventually you will fight Ganon. To defeat him easily, make
sure you have Nayru's Love. Use Nayru's Love, then take out your Biggoron's
Sword. Roll under Ganon's legs, and slash his tail. Make sure that you have
seven Fairies. You can get rid of your Deku Sticks, Zelda's Note, the Claim
Check, the Faerie Slingshot, and the Boomerang, since you will not need them
from Ganon's Castle onwards.
Deflect his magic with a bottle
then quickly hop into the middle platform and use Din's Fire. Repeat this
three or four times.
Stay in one corner of the room
and hit Ganondorf's magic back at him by swinging your sword until it hits
him. Quickly fire a Light Arrow at him and use your Hover Boots to cross
over to him. Attack him. As soon as he rises into the air, run back and
repeat this process.
First, equip the Hover Boots
and the Big Goron Sword. The Big Goron Sword will give you a little extra
reach when Gannondorf throws the electric ball. When Gannondof pounds the
ground the first time, immediately run to a solid stone in one of the
corners. This piece of rock will not fall no matter how many times he hits
the ground. When he throws an electric ball at you and you finally manage to
hit him, immediately hit him with a Light Arrow. Run to his platform (not
Hookshot) and strike him. When he starts to resist your hitsm run back to
your corner. The Hover Boots will provide you with all the power needed to
get back on the ledge. If done correctly, he will never knock down another
piece of platform. When he gathers the black energy orb, do not run. Just
hit him with a Light Arrow; this will prevent him from throwing it at you.
When Ganondorf charges up the
attack that shoots many magic balls at Link, quickly shoot a Light Arrow at
him. He will not block the Light Arrow.
Deflecting
Ganondorf's attacks:
The sword, Megaton Hammer, or bottles can be used to deflect
Ganondorf's fireballs.
After deflecting Ganondorf's
small lightning balls a few times (and weakening him), he will power-up a
gigantic lightning orb. He will throw it, and several small ones will fly in
all directions toward you. There will be no way to deflect all of them, so
you are most likely to get hit with five or six of them if you run. To
deflect all of them back to Ganondorf, you will have to charge up for a
magic sword spin attack. It takes timing, just like for the smaller orbs. It
is a fairly easy task to most players. It would also be wise to use the
Biggoron sword to do more damage.
Although mirror shield does
block all the fireballs Ganondorf shoots, you can avoid this situation
entirely by simply hitting him with Light Arrows before he shoots.
Defeating
Gerudos:
The Hookshot or Longshot is required for this trick. Have Link go
to Gerudo Fortress before he gets permission to move around freely without
getting caught. To get there quicker, use Epona. Walk up the stairs at the
very entrance to Gerudo Fortress. There should be a group of Gerudo Guards
patrolling the area. The guards are the Gerudos in the purple outfits. Use
your Hookshot or Longshot to stun one of the Gerudos. It should make the
same sound as when you hit a ReDead or Tektite, and she should turn blue and
have stars above her head. Quickly run over to the same Gerudo Guard and
slash her with your sword. She should topple over on the ground just like
how ReDeads die, only slightly faster. The Gerudo Guard will just lay there,
supposedly dead. The other Guards will catch you and put you in jail. You
can get out by using the Hookshotor Longshot. Note: When you enter a doorway
of the Gerudo's Fortress or exit that location in any way, the Gerudo that
you "killed" will somehow come back to life.
Defeating
Gohma:
When inside the Great Deku Tree, fighting the Boss Gohma, bring a
full Slingshot and about five to ten Deku Nuts. When you enter, hit her with
a Deku Seed from the Slingshot. Then, hit her with your sword. When she
tries to go on the roof of the battlefield, hit her with another Deku Seed
from the Slingshot. If you happen to run out of Deku Seeds, when she is on
the ground use a Deku Nut. After about six to nine hits, she will die and
you will get a Heart Container.
Throw Deku Nuts at him. They
will stun him, just as a slingshot would.
Wait for Gohma to climb to the
ceiling. Take out your slingshot and shoot its eye while it lays eggs. It
will fall, stunned. Slash at it until it is dead. It will not move, allowing
you to take your time.
Defeating
Giant Guay:
To get the Giant Guay, get to the top of the lakeside laboratory
where the heart piece is found. A Gauy should appear and attack. Kill it.
About ten seconds, later another one will appear. Kill it. Keep killing the
Guays until like about fifteen to twenty have been defeated. Then a huge
Guay about three times normal size should appear. This one is very slow.
Kill it and you will be rewarded a red ruby, which is worth 20 Rupees.
Defeating
Dead Hand:
Allow one of the hands to grab you and the monster will appear.
Move the Analog-stick to break free, then slice him. Continue until
it is defeated.
Defeating
Dodongo:
To defeat Dodongo in Dodongo's cavern, throw a bomb in his mouth,
then strike him with your sword. Repeat this three or four times.
Before going into Dodongo's
cavern, equip yourself with a Hylian shield by buying it at the Bazaar shop
in the Castle Market, or by pulling the grave with the flowers in the
Kokoira Grave Yard. When the King Dodongo rolls at you, press R to
put up the Hylian shield. You will duck under it and be unaffected, unless
he shoots fire at you.
When he rolls at you, just go
against the wall and chase him. When he gets ready to breath fire, throw a
bomb in his mouth and hit him with your sword. Repeat this three or four
times until he is defeated.
King Dodongo is very easy to
defeat. Take a hand held bomb or Bombflower and throw them into his mouth.
Then, run at is head and slash him with your sword a few times when he is
reddish and he will lose some of his life, Do this about three or four times
to defeat him.
Defeating
Bongo Bongo:
Get the Biggoron's sword and the Eye Of Truth so you can see him.
First, hit his hands with arrows (you may still keep the Eye Of Truth on).
Then hit his eye ball to stun him. Slash violently and repeat these step. Z
target his hands, then shoot your arrows.
Defeating
Iron Knuckles:
An easier way to defeat the Iron knuckles (big enemies with big
axes) is to first target him. Then, just as he swings, do a back flip. Then
do a lunge attack as he finishes his swing. If he does a double swing, just
wait for him to finish his second swing, and quickly do a lunge attack. If
you get hit, try to lure him to hit a pillar or his chair. If he hits the
chair or pillar, then hearts will appear. The only Iron Knuckle on which
this strategy will work on is the one faced before the two witch sisters.
An easy way to defeat an Iron
Knuckle is to use Nayru's Love. Then Z-target and keep slashing him with
your sword. He will still able to knock you back with his ax, but it will
not hurt you. To get out of the way of the ax, just use backflips or a
sidejump.
Z-target him and just keep
firing Bombuchus at him. You need at least 50 Bombuchus to defeat him.
Use the Big Goron sword. Dodge
its heavy ax swings, then counter-attack with slashes or jump attacks.
If you have the Big Goron
sword, this will be easier. When you first activate the Iron Knuckle, keep
hitting him with your sword by pressing B. This paralyzes him for a
second or two, but do not back away. Do not is jump attack him.
Do a jump attack then
immediately back flip. Keep repeating those moves.
Defeating
Morpha:
He will summon a water arm to search for you. When Morpha does
this, it will also appear in a separate tube of water. Using your Longshot.
grab onto the red orb to bring it out of the water. Continue until it is
defeated. Note: Near the end Morphia will send out another arm and sometimes
three arms other than itself. Back up into a corner if this happens.
When fighting the boss of the
Water Temple, Morpha, you can use Din's Fire to destroy the water arms it
sends out and, if it is close to you, make it jump out of the water so you
can hit it. This is especially useful if an arm got you and another one is
waiting to snare you after you get the first arm off.
Defeating
Queen Ghoma:
While battling Queen Ghoma in the first dungeon, "Inside the
Deku Tree", notice that Navi says "Her eye is vulnerable when its
red." You can stun her by shooting her eye with your slingshot when her
eye is red. Also notice that her eye is red while she is preparing to lay
eggs while hanging from the ceiling. Shoot her down before she lays her
eggs.
When her eye turns red, just
walk up to her and throw a Deku Nut at her. The slingshot is unnecessary
here. Her eye should turn green, Hit her with your sword. Remember that the A
jump attack does double damage. When she is on the ceiling, wait for her
eggs to drop. When they drop, walk up to each one of them, stand as close as
you can without touching it, and hit it with your sword. When you destroy
all the eggs, Ghohma will drop down again. Repeat this strategy.
When starting off, throw a Deku
Nut at it and slash it (Z-target it, press B to equip the sword and
press A) a couple of times. Then, when it is going to lay eggs, wait
until it is about to approach the middle of the ceiling. Immediately take
out the slingshot and shoot it in the eye. This will cause it to fall on the
ground. Then, finish it off by slashing it the last few times.
When you first get in to her
chambers, use C-Up to look for her red eye. You should have as many
Deku Nuts as you can carry. Before you enter her chambers, get the 40 seed
bag. Run up to her and stun her with a Deku Nut. While she is stunned, hit
her with your sword. She will move up to the ceiling. While she is doing
that, back up and pull out the Sling Shot. Shoot the Gohmas that appear with
it. Repeat this until she is defeated.
Defeating
Twinrova:
When the fight begins, they will fly around and take shots at
you. Use the Mirror Shield to reflect an attack into the other witch -- Ice
into Fire, Fire into Ice. After you do this four times to each witch, they
will combine into one. Twinrova (the large witch) will fly around, firing
blasts of ice and fire. Absorb a type three times with your mirror shield
and you will release a blast of energy. Hit her, and then cut her with your
sword. Note: If you absorb two different types of energy, the incoming blast
will hurt you.
You must have both Fire and Ice
Arrows. When Kome the fire witch charges, fire an Ice Arrow. When Kotake
charges, fire a Fire Arrow. This may not always work. Note: Bring a Green
Potion and a Fairy.
Defeating
Volglava:
After hitting Volglava on the head two times with the Megaton
Hammer, he will do one of two things: fly around the room screaming, which
causes earthquakes, or chase after you breathing fire. If he chases you,
Z-target his head and bombard him with arrows.
When you start, the dragon will
fly around and breathe fire at Link. You can stop this by firing an arrow at
its head. It will fly back to a hole. It will appear from the ground and
swing its head at you. After that, hit it on the head with the Megaton
Hammer. It will appear again and drop boulders from the sky, then fly back
down. Continue until it is defeated.
When Volglava comes out of one
of the lava pits, go to him and hit him with the Megaton Hammer |
