Stealth Camo:
Successfully complete the game after submitting to the torture. At the end, Otacon will be with you instead of Meryl. When at the snowmobile, Otacon will give you the Stealth Camo that he was using. The Stealth Camo will let you not be seen by guards, but will unequipped if bumped or shot at. It does not function during Boss battles and at the caves, because the dogs will smell you.

Tux:
To get the Tux, you will need to get the Stealth Camo and the Bandanna. When you get both those items, you will wear a Tux instead of a stealth suit; also Meryl will wear it and Cyber Ninja will have a red exoskeleton.

Successfully complete the game twice and play a third time. You will play as Snake in his tuxedo. Also Meryl will wear a sneaking suit like Snake's, but a female version of it. Finally, the ninja will be colored red.

Control intermission view:
Wait for the message "Camera Change" or "Camera Free" to appear during an intermission sequence. Hold L + R to zoom or C-stick to change the view.

During the intermission sequences where the screen is black on the top and bottom, press the R to zoom in. The harder the button is pressed, the further the screen will zoom. You can use the C-stick when in this mode to move the camera around to see more of the current scene.

Hint: Gamecube hardware:
Examine the desk in Otacon's office to see a Gamecube with a Wave Bird controller. The video monitor also displays the Gamecube start up screen.

Hint: Meryl's view:
When you go to the first level five door and Meryl freaks out before you go into the other door, hold Z to switch to first person mode from her perspective.

Hint: See Meryl smack her butt:
When you first reach the passage where Wolf is in her sniping position, Meryl will say that there are mines placed there. After she shows you where to walk, run over a mine. An intermission sequence will start. Meryl will sigh, turn around, and smack her butt.

Hint: Meryl attacks you with wolf:
After the fight with Psycho Mantis, you will be in an area where there are wolves. If you continue straight and do not crouch under the rock, you will end up on a wall with a crack facing Meryl. If you shoot her with an M9, she will whistle and send a wolf to attack you.

Hint: See Meryl without pants:
When you first get to the holding cells and are going through the ventilation shafts to get to the DARPA Chief's cell, you will see an intermission sequence of Meryl in a prison cell, doing exercises. After the scene ends, you can look down into the cell to view her exercises anytime. If you go back out the cells the way you came in, then return to the vent above Meryl's cell, she will not have any pants on when you look down at her.

Hint: Ghost photos:
In the Commander's room after you have defeated Psycho Mantis, stand in front of the mirror on the right side. Equip the camera, take a picture of Snake, then save it. Reset the game, go to "Special", then to "Photos". Look at the picture, and you will see a ghost grinning at you. The command "Exorcise" will appear. Choose it to make the ghost disappear.

Before you fight Metal Gear Rex, stay where you are and equip your digital camera. Take a picture between Metal Gear's legs and save it. Restart the Gamecube, go to "Special", and highlight "Photos". You should have a picture with a face on it. Press A to see a ghost photo. This picture is of Brian Lee, who helped make the game.

Hint: Hidden item:
When you first start the game, get back in the water. Walk to the opposite side. You will find an item. Press L to access your Sub-items. This item allows you to detect guards near you by rumbling the controller.

Hint: Get health during torture:
When starting the torture, just press A as usual. When the blue bar is empty, turn on auto-fire to get your health back up to full. If you use that feature from the start, the game will "know" and you will die anyway.

Hint: Easy dog tags:
Run up behind a guard and get Snake to shout "Freeze". Then, run around to the front of them and hold the gun to their crotch. They should give their dog tags to you. If they still refuse, get the Stinger or Nikita out and aim it at the same place. Note: If you hold Y while holding A with the FAMAS, it will not shoot; use this to hold guards up.

Hint: Get Meryl's tags:
When Meryl is standing next to the small wolf, shoot her in the head with the M-9. Then, immediately pick her up by her legs. Her dog tags will appear; simply grab them.

Hint: Tank Hangar: Disable lasers permanently:
In the Tank Hangar, in the room with the infrared sensors equip the thermal goggles and look to the left wall. You can see the sensors that the lasers are equipped to. If you shoot all of them with the SOCOM, the lasers will be gone for the rest of the game.

Hint: Underground Passage: Easier sniper rifle:
In Underground Passage (Sniper Alley) where you encountered Sniper Wolf after Meryl gets shot, you must backtrack to get a sniper rifle (PSG-1 PSG-1-T). Instead of returning all the way back to the armory, use the following trick. Backtrack through the commander room. Kill the two guards (one in the bathroom and the other on patrol) or just slip around them and enter the office space. Re supply all your ammunition. You can now enter the door on the left at the end. The PSG-1-T is in this room, with ammunition for it. Slip back out through the commander room where you defeated Psycho Mantis. Go through the caves and get back to Underground Passage (Sniper Alley). Be careful, as Meryl is not there anymore but Sniper Wolf is. Take your hiding position then crawl in front of the door. Hide in the shadows or the dark places in front of the door. Take out the PSG-1-T, zoom in on Sniper Wolf, and battle her until she falls. Snake will say "Got her!". Then, run up through the passage. Make sure to check each slot. The one on the right at the end holds a gun turret plus a ration. You can load up on ammunition, but there is no Sniper Wolf. Go down to the Level 6 Security Door and watch the intermission sequence.

Hint: Underground Base: Shortcut:
In the Underground Base where Metal Gear: Rex is stored, you will lose your PAL Card Key and must search the green scum for it. You can take a safe long way by going down the stairs they way you came up, or by simply going left of the control room and moving down the catwalk to the corner. Press Y (Action) to climb over the railing. Slide all the way over to Snake's right (if you are not already there), then press X to drop down. Press Y again to catch a cable just below Snake. This may take awhile; if you miss the cable you will die). Slide to the right again as far as you can go, then drop down. You can destroy the gun turret and begin to search for your key card along that strip. If you cannot find it anywhere in the toxic green scum, kill the rat to get your PAL Key Card. Then go up to the control room to reverse the detonation code. Be careful, as security cameras watch over that location. Toss a chaff grenade before entering and after you leave each time.

Hint: Spinning tank:
Throw stun grenades to stun the gunner long enough for you to run around and lob grenades at the tracks. If you hit them correctly the tracks should explode. Do this enough times and it should freeze the tank in its place, or if you blow one side up, it should make it spin in circles.

Hint: Heart on crotch:
When Meryl is being controlled by Psycho Mantis and tries to seduce snake, look at his crotch area. It will have a faint heart on it.

Hint: Bad stealth change:
Unlike the original Metal Gear Solid, in TS while in stealth mode you cannot just walk through the infrared sensors. If you do, they will go off and alert the soldiers; or in the cargo area (exit from tank hanger to fight M1 tank) the gas will go off when you walk through.

Hint: Eternal Darkness references:
One of the magazines found in the game has a picture of Alexandra Roivas wearing a bikini. Pick it up, open it, then zoom in on the contents to find her.

Have a saved game file from Eternal Darkness on your memory card and Psycho Mantis will make a reference to that game prior to the Boss battle.

In the Armory, there is a poster of Eternal Darkness in one of the lockers. The poster has a giant picture of a skeleton on it.

Hint: The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker reference:
Have a saved game file from The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker on your memory card and Psycho Mantis will make a reference to that game prior to the Boss battle.

Hint: Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions reference:
In the underground base, go to the third floor then go in front of Rex's nose. Equip the scope, then turn 90 degrees to the left. Look up to see the blue diamond from Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. The diamond moves as you do, and changes color depending on your location.

Hint: Super Mario Sunshine reference:
Have a saved game file from Super Mario Sunshine on your memory card and Psycho Mantis will make a reference to that game prior to the Boss battle.

Hint: Super Smash Bros. Melee reference:
Have a saved game file from Super Smash Bros. Melee on your memory card and Psycho Mantis will make a reference to that game prior to the Boss battle.

Hint: Zone Of The Enders reference:
Look at one of the posters in Otacon's office to see the graphic from the front of the Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner box.

Hint: Mario and Yoshi reference:
Look on one of the file cabinets in Otacon's office to find statues of Mario and Yoshi. Shoot the Mario statue to hear the classic "extra life" sound, sett the "1-Up" message, and increase your health. Shooting the Yoshi statue does not do anything except it saying its name.

Hint: Game company references:
During the battle with Psycho Mantis, three pictures are hanging behind him on the wall. The people pictured are Shigeru Miyamoto (Nintendo), Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid's creator), and Denis Dyack (Silicon Knights).

Get behind the level 2 security door in the Tank hangar. Look at the computer closest to the security door to see that it is surfing the Silicon Knights web site.

Glitch: Underwater gas mask:
If you put on your gas mask while under water, your O2 gauge will decrease slower, just like it would while in a room with gas.

Glitch: Unobscured vision with gas mask:
When you have the gas mask equipped and enter a vent (or go into "intrusion" view) which goes into first-person, the gas mask will not obscure your vision. If you press First-Person View, however, it will appear until the button is released.

Glitch: Wrong steam temperature:
Put on your thermal goggles while in the room with the pipes that shoot out steam. The steam, which is supposed to be hot enough to burn you, shows up as something cold.

Glitch: Heat signature:
During the Psycho Mantis battle, the armor suits in the room have a heat signature when you are wearing the Thermal Goggles. There should be no heat signature since no one is inside the suits.

Glitch: Missing corpse:
In the corridor after the gas filled hallway, there is an intermission sequence showing the ninja slicing up the guards, with a lot of blood. You will see him knock a guard upwards with a low kick, then cut him in half. When you regain control and enter the corridor, the corpse is not there and has apparently disappeared.

Glitch: Liquid's dog tags:
When fighting Liquid Snake on the Metal Gear Ray, you can knock him over the edge and get his dog tags. However, when you continue playing, notice that he still has them.

Glitch: No legged Liquid:
In the underground base, shoot a Nikita Missile up Rex's nose and skull. Then, turn 180 degrees and head for the control room window. As you get close enough, turn right or left to see that Liquid has no legs. This must be done before getting the pal code.

Glitch: Black screen during Hind D battle:
When the first part of the Hind D battle begins, when you have to go down the building with a rope, do not pick up the rope when you first go up the twenty seven flights of steps. When the intermission sequences on the roof are over and the Hind is flying around shooting at you, go back by the ladder and you will not be able to go down it. Leave that room and go back onto the roof. The screen will turn black, and the only way you can see what you are doing is by looking at the radar. If you lean against an object or go into first person view, then the screen will return until you move again. The screen also returns on if you go back into the room with the ladder. This might not happen every time you try it.

Glitch: Tank unable to hit you in canyon level:
After the tank hits you once, roll around side to side then crawl over the trench directly beside the tank. Make sure you have your hand grenades equipped. Toss them up towards the turret and they should land in the gunner's lap or close by and still harm him. If you are in the correct position, you are able to move with the tank and the gunnerm and tank cannon will not harm you. Although the gunner will fire and get close, he will not be able to hit you and sometimes will not see you. You also can take him out sometimes with your assault rifle, SOCOM pistol, or even the tranquilizer gun to get more time. You basically have an unlimited supply of grenades close by. If you run out of grenades and the battles gets heavy, equip your chaff grenades. This will interfere with the tank's speed and it will slow down.

Glitch: Nikita missile dialogue:
When you jump over the side to start rappelling, there will be a scene with the Hind flying to shoot the steam pipes. As soon as the Hind flies by, immediately contact Campbell with the CODEC, even though the screen is still in wide screen. He will start talking about Nikita missiles instead of rappelling. Contact him again and he will teach you how to rappel.

Glitch: Meryl in pants:
The first time you see Meryl, you cannot see her in her pants. However, you still can if you quickly run into the toilet. Also, she appears from nowhere during the toilet sequence.

Glitch: Urinating guard:
If you hold up the guard going to the bathroom, he will not give you his tags. However, if you hold him up on his return or in the room he will.

Glitch: Otacon:
Otagon wets himself during the scene with the Ninja, however his trousers are not stained when he comes out. Also in the scene he was shot when the Ninja sliced the bullet in half. He does not say this when Snake asks him how he is, and asks about his ankle.

Note: Button presses are described in PlayStation version format. Use the equivalent Gamecube button when playing those versions:

Battle hints

Heliport items and weapons:
Use the following steps to get three items and three weapons in the Heliport. You will start with the Scope and Cigarettes. To get the Rations at the Docks, kill a guard. When you start, go in the water and behind the barrel. Go up until you see the elevator and then go straight right. Go up until you find a wall (not very much) then go right until reaching a passage where you can go down. Go down, and then right. At the Heliport, kill a guard, then go right until you are in the snow. Then, go up. The Socom Pistol is in the cargo truck. The Chaff Grenades are in the searchlight area. The Stun Grenades can be found by going around the Searchlight area and then down until reaching a small room past the surveillance camera.

Shoot tracer bullets from the Fa-Mas:
Obtain the Bandana and the Fa-Mas. Shoot the Fa-Mas until you only have three bullets left. The bullet gauge should be in the red zone. At that point, equip the Bandana and fire. Snake should be shooting yellow tracer bullets that appear to be lasers.

Auto-aimed Fa-Mas:
The shots that are fired when the "Shoot tracer bullets from the Fa-Mas" trick is used will automatically be aimed. This is especially useful when Snake is jumped on elevators, or is being chased after being spotted.

Finding the pistol:
When starting the level that has the search lights, go to the closest entrance for the search lights. Get ready when the search lights stop. When they begin moving again, enter the search light area, quickly go to the left, and get out of the search light area. Then, move straight and to see a truck with two cameras and guards. Go to the truck and get in the back. The pistol should be there. There should also be a box that may be used for hiding. Note: If enemies see your character entering the truck they will throw grenades.

Using weapons in the nuclear warhead storage room:
You cannot use weapons in the nuclear warhead storage room but they can be used from the outside. Use the PSG-1 to sniper the guards from under the door before going back inside.

Double claymore mines:
Set a claymore mine. Then walk over it to pick up two mines.

Bombs (PlayStation version):
Remember to throw away bombs on the following occasions:

After not submitting to Ocelot's torture, he puts a timer bomb in your items. After recovering your items, press L2 and highlight "Timer B". Press Circle to throw away.

Sometimes there will be a bomb when swimming through the moat. If you pick one up, press L2 and highlight "Timer B". Press Circle to throw away.

Shoot SOCOM or Fa-Mas across rooms:
You can accurately shoot your SOCOM or Fa-Mas across entire rooms. Equip either Night Vision Goggles or Thermal Goggles and look at the targeted guard in first person view mode. The view will be broken up by a y-axis line and a x-axis line, forming crosshairs not unlike the those from the PSG-1. Line the intersection of the crosshairs on the guard's body, like you would if you were shooting the PSG-1. Release the first person view mode, the shoot the guard.

Better PSG-1 sniper rifle control:
If you are out of Diazepam, switch to Snake's cigarettes in the item screen. Your aim will instantly steady, but your health will slowly deteriorate until there is almost nothing left. You will not die, but you will be extremely vulnerable. Note: Switching away from the cigarettes will immediately cause your aim to shift again, unlike the longer-lasting effects of Diazepam.

Killing without weapons:
Go on a balcony or another high location. Start punching an opponent, but keep him close to the edge so that he can fall when Solid Snake does his last kick. He should fall off the balcony, and instead of getting knocked out, he will die.

More damage while fighting:
While fist fighting, go in a flight of stairs. When Solid Snake does the last kick, your opponent will fall down the stairs will be knocked out for longer than normal.

More time fighting Liquid Snake hand to hand:
When fighting liquid snake on top of the destroyed Metal Gear Rex hand to hand, the time limit is usually 2:30. However if you die once, skip the intermission sequence to get 3:00 as your time limit.

Defeating Ocelot:
Use the SOCOM or M9 and shoot him in the head whenever possible. C4 can also be used.

Defeating the M1 Tank:
Use the Chaff Grenade. Get close and repeatedly toss grenades.

Defeating Ninja:
Toss some Chaff Grenades then hit him with the FA-MAS. Towards the end, when he is crouching, roll into him.

Defeating Mantis:
Plug the controller into another port and shoot him. Make sure to destroy the portraits as he will attack you with them. Throw Meryl to subdue her when necessary.

Defeating Wolf:
Use the Pentazem. Zoom out to find her, then assail her with head shots.

Defeating the Hind-D:
Use Stinger missiles. Fire whenever it locks on.

Defeating Raven:
Keep planting Claymores and C4. When possible. track him with the Nikita. Beware his range and never approach him from the front.

Defeating Metal Gear-Rex:
Use the Stinger missiles. Run when it is about to attack.

Defeating Liquid:
Keep punching away and keep moving.

Defeating transparent Bosses:
When fighting any transparent Boss, such as Ninja or Mantis, use your Thermal Goggles to see his location and kill him faster.

Defeating stealth enemies in the cargo elevator:
Instead of using your FAMAS, just snap their necks. By doing this, it is much faster and you will not lose as much health.

Defeating attack teams:
Aim for the top of their head or their legs. These areas are unprotected by their shields, and thus are their weak points.

Special missions:

Level 1: Look for the biggest guard with a red mark on his head.

Level 2: The guard who has a sock on his head.

Level 3: The guard who has no breath coming out.

Level 4: The guard who cannot make it to his post without walking into something.

Level 5: Turn right, then up into the open space. Go to the far left one and turn left. You should end up by the goal. When he gets there, PPK combo him and drag him to the goal.

Level 7: Follow the footprints by crawling over them.

Level 8:: His heart-beat is louder

Item and object hints

Using boxes to save time:
Equip a box in the various game areas to travel to the destination on the boxes and easily skip areas. The boxes can be found:

In Tank Hangar level 1, on the top floor, in the room by the stairs.
In the Arms Storage building basement 1, in one of the rooms inside the main room on that floor.
In one of the storage rooms in the courtyard where the second confrontation with Sniper Wolf took place.

To use the boxes (A, B, or C), jump in the back of one of the trucks found in each area and hide in the box. Eventually a soldier will notice and drive Snake to the destination labeled on the box:

The Heliport
The Arms Storage Building
The Field (where Sniper Wolf was killed)

This trick can be used to save time traveling between buildings, and also keeps Snake from being in the cold for extended periods of time (preventing the sneezing and sniffles that alert the guards to his presence).

Use a box to return to the heliport:
Once in the Tank Hanger, after you go to the DARPA Chief, you will receive a level one keycard. Go into the Tank Hanger and climb up the stairs by the surveillance camera. There should be a door by the camera. Use the level one keycard to get inside. Find the cardboard box marked with "To Heliport". You can use the box in the missile hanger by getting into the back of the truck in back of the hanger. It will take you back to the heliport.

When to avoid boxes:
If you have been spotted, do not hide in a box because the guard will think you are in there.

Box tricks:

Hit Meryl, then retreat into your box. She will say something and kick you while in the box.

Go into your box when you know an enemy is coming without letting him see you do this or move while in the box. Some guards say, "Ah, Mr. Box" and will leave. Others will say, "Ah, Mr. Box" and will sit there for awhile before yelling "Get out of the way!" and kicking the box off of you.

PlayStation cameo:
Approach one of the lab tables after defeating the Cyber Ninja inside the Otacon's lab, and the FMV sequence. A PlayStation and controller may be found near the televisions and computers.

Look on the middle desk in Dr. Emmerich's lab to find a gold Playstation.

Easy camera use:
Get the camera and the stealth suit to take photos very easily. Wear the stealth suit, go near an enemy, then use the camera close-up in his face. He will probably see you, so use stealth again.

Camera tricks:
Once you get the digital camera, go back to where the DARPA chief (Decoy Octopus) died. If his body is still there, take a picture of it then save the game. Restart the PlayStation and select "Special" at the main menu. Select "Photos" and play around with the red, green, and blue. Eventually, you will reveal Decoy Octopus. This also works with Meryl. Take a picture of her just before you enter the room to fight Psycho Mantis, and immediately after she begins to act strange. Then use the same steps done to reveal Decoy Octopus and you will reveal Psycho Mantis, Meryl's possessor. Note: If the DARPA chief's (Decoy Octopus') body is not in the cell when you return with the camera, do not worry. Play through the game then start a new game from the same save file. The camera will now already be in your inventory.

Get Thermal Goggles:
After sneaking on the cargo elevator, you will see a helicopter pad. Behind that is a truck. Get in the back of the truck and you will pick up a pistol. Go to the Tank Hangar, and you will be able to get thermal goggles at the location that you would normally find a pistol.

Finding lasers with the cigarettes:
If you do not get the thermal goggles in the beginning, an easy way to get by infrared lasers is to use your cigarettes. The smoke will let you know where the lasers are located. This also saves time.

Finding the Cold Medicine:
In B1 of the nuclear warhead storage, go to the office (down) and to the left walkway. The second door down requires a Level 6 security card and contains the cold medicine. Note: You only get a cold if you submit to Ocelot's torture.

Body Armor:
On the Disc 1 when you have escape through the cell by hiding under the bed after Otacon gives you some items, return to the room where you had to use the Nikita Missiles and the Gasmask. Use the Level 6 Card to search around to get the Body Armor and many other items. Watch out for surveillance cameras and search all the rooms that you have not visited yet.

Items through Level 6 Card:
When you get the Level 6 Card, head towards the Comms. Tower (directly next to the caves) as you are supposed to. However, when you are on B1, go to the room just in front of the elevator. Use the Level 6 Card to get extra items. You can also use it in the Armory.

Rat eating the pal card:
Upon rare occasions, when Liquid makes you drop the key in to the drainage ditch in the Metal Gear room, a rat will eat the PAL override key. The only way to get it back is to go by the air vent on the ground by the gun camera above the moat. Equip the PSG1 and blow up the rat. The card will appear where the rat was located.

When you lose the PAL override card key and it is eaten by a rat, take out your metal detector and watch your radar. You can see a little blip moving on the screen. Follow the blip. It may pop out of a grate in the ditch on the right side of the screen. When the rodent does appear, chase and punch it. The rat will explode and your PAL override key will appear.

Mine detector trick:
When Ocelot shoots the pal key out of your hand, go down in the water area and turn on the mine detector. It will show the pal key's position. The mine detector is really a metal detector.

Alternate mine detector:
When your radar is jammed, use your thermal goggles to see claymore mines and to find card keys.

View censored parts:
To see what the blurred blocks actually are on the soldier that Meryl knocked out and the blur that is on the soldier going to the bathroom, just get as close to the blur as possible. Then use the scope and zoom in as far as possible.

Crawl down on the ground next to the guard, at his back end that is in the air. Use your scope or camera. Once you are as close as you can be with your head to his rear, put on the scope or camera. Zoom in all the way and the censor blur will disappear.

This may also be done with the camera. Take a picture, then load it and turn everything to white.

Urinating wolves:
Go to the cave after defeating Psycho Mantis. Catch up with Meryl near the entrance to Sniper Wolf. Walk up to Meryl, slap her, then quickly jump into a cardboard box. Meryl will command the wolves to attack but instead they will walk over and urinate on the cardboard box that your character is in.

Use the following trick to avoid getting bitten by the wolf in the cave. Follow Meryl, and if you already found her, try to hit her with a gun. Before she tries to hit you, use a box. A small dog will smell you and urinate on the box. When this happens you have succeeded the task of going in and out of the cave and will save you from the wolf. You will already be familiar to them.

Note: If you use the urinating wolves trick, equip the box whenever in the cave and no wolves will attack. This is also achieved using Sniper Wolf's handkerchief when going through the cave.

The handkerchief that Hal Emerick gives you while in the cell is not exactly useless. You can use it to avoid getting bitten by the wolves in the snow cave when equipped. They will gather around you, whimpering with hearts over their heads. You will not have the handkerchief the first time you encounter the wolves, but it is just as easy to punch them and run away. They will never die however many times you shoot or throw explosives at them. Note: Even if you have the Stealth Gear, the wolves still know you are there, not to mention Bosses and any Genome soldiers encounter in the twin towers.

After finishing Sniper Wolf, look in the room near the truck in the southwest corner to the snowfield. Inside is cardboard box C. Get in the truck and go to either the Heliport or the Nuclear Warhead Storage Building. Kill some terrorists, and go then go back to the snow field (either the long way or by the truck). Go to the center of the field to find a crazy puppy that follows you around and cannot be killed. That dog will be there for the rest of the game.

Working hand dryers:
To turn on the hand dryers in the girl's bathroom, meet Meryl. After you are finished talking to her, just walk past the electric hand dryers on the wall.

Stealth suit strategy:
Wear the stealth suit and knock on doors to get the guards to open them. You can shoot the cameras with the Stinger missiles.

Survive torture (PlayStation version):
Note: This trick requires a controller with an auto-fire feature, such as the Piranha Pack from InterAct Accessories. When Snake is being tortured and Revolver Ocelot will state that he will know if you are cheating. Ignore him and enable the semi auto-fire switch on the Piranha controller. Then, hold Circle while he is shocking Snake to stay alive. Do not submit and Meryl will be saved.

Extra rations:
Before the second battle against Sniper Wolf, over the right side of the wall is a ration. Then go out to the blizzard. When the battle begins there will be another ration at that same location.

When the game begins, Snake has to go under something to get to the elevator. Do not do this. Instead, go down the stairs, back into the water. There will be a platform with a crate. There is a ration behind the crate.

Thawed rations:
If your rations are frozen, walk up to the hand dryer in the bathrooms to thaw. Do not let the guard hear you. If you can, shoot him with a SOCOM (supressor is required) to earn a ration.

Another way to thaw frozen rations are to equip them.

Another way is to take a trip to the blast furnace.

Destroy the crane:
While in the blast furnace, use the Stinger missiles (or another explosive weapon) and aim at the moving crane. Shoot once, and it will break the crane and make it stop. Shoot one more time and the crane will completely fall off and end up in the lava. This will make it easier when going across the ledge.

Orange screen (PlayStation version):
Press L2 to use the infrared goggles and turn the screen red. Press L2 again to have no item selected. The screen should still be red. Quickly display and hold the selection screen to turn it orange.

Character hints

Annoy Cambell:
Snipe the rats above where you first encounter Wolf or snipe the ravens when at your second encounter with Raven.

Naomi Cambell pun:
Ever notice that Naomi and Cambell are on the same frequency? Together, their names form that of Naomi Cambell, the runway model.

Avoid DARPA Chief rescue:
When you get inside the building and reach the elevator, go to the second basement floor first and fight Ocelot. You will not have to rescue the DARPA Chief or fight the guards with Meryl.

Defeating Gray Fox:
Do not use weapons -- just punch him. When he starts to get tired and is "slow fighting", use your chaff grenade. Then use any desired weapon against him

An alternate way to fight Cyborg Ninja without him disappearing, is to equip the Bandanna and throw Chaff Grenades all the time. When the grenade explodes he will be helpless and you will be able to hit him, without him jumping away. Keep throwing Chaff Grenades and hitting him to defeat him.

Find Gray Fox in the lab:
Gray Fox in the Lab while he is using his stealth camouflage by using the thermal goggles. It can be found in the room in the Tank Hangar.

Defeating Liquid Snake (PlayStation version):
You can fight Liquid Snake easier if you press Triangle to switch to a first person view.

When you face Liquid Snake in hand to hand at the end of the game, you can use combos of punches. To do this, press Circle(2), wait about a second, press Circle(2), wait about a second, and repeat. If done correctly, you should do long punch combos.

Finding Liquid Snake after the Hind fight:
Go up to the right wall in the snowfield. Do not let Wolf see you, and press against the wall. Snake will notice a parachute and then receive some calls. Call Master Miller - it's funny because he is Liquid.

See how Liquid Snake escaped the Hind crash:
Do not start the fight with Sniper Wolf the second time yet. Make your way to the left all the way when outside and you will see a ration and a wall. Put your back to it and you should see a parachute in the tree.

See Liquid Snake on torture platform (PlayStation version):
This trick requires an analog controller. Enable analog control. Press Down on the D-pad and very slowly press Up on the Left Analog-stick. Very slowly press Down on the Left Analog-stick. You should be able to see Liquid and part of Sniper Wolf's hair.

Stats when fighting Liquid:
When fighting hand to hand with Liquid at the end of the game, press Circle on controller two to display the stats of the fight.

Defeating Metal Gear Rex:
Go under Rex -- he will not see you; if he does he going to attack you. Throw a chaff grenade anywhere. It is still going to stun for a few seconds. Stand behind Rex and fire a Stinger missile at the radar dome. Keep repeating this until the radar dome is destroyed. After the FMV sequence, keep firing stinger missiles at the cockpit until he dies.

You do not need a lock-on to defeat Metal Gear Rex. Just aim the Stinger at the radar dome (part 1), or the cockpit (part 2), and fire. This works especially well in part 2 by running between his legs and firing at the underside of the cockpit.

Before he wakes up, go behind him and get ready to shoot. When he moves or turns, shoot him then throw a chaff grenade. Shoot him again until the chaff wears out. Immediately before it wears out, get behind him and kill him.

Hide behind one of the parts sticking out on either side of the room. Then, just wait until Rex turns around and shoot him. Hide behind the part sticking out just before the missile hits him. This only works when you are shooting the round thing on his left arm. Keep doing this and you should be able to defeat him after some time.

Before he wakes up at the beginning of the battle, run to the far right. Hide behind one of the walls that are sticking out and get inside one of your cardboard boxes. When the blue cone is out of your way, quickly press R1 to get rid of it and shoot a Stinger into his arm. Before it hits him, get back in your cardboard box. He will not be able to find you, and you can defeat him without getting hit once.

Master Miller missing in action:
When fighting the Hind on top of the communications tower, call Master Miller. You will get no response.

Master Miller talks to you instead of Ocelot:
When you enter the room where Metal Gear is stored, go up the ladders until you are on the very top. Look at Liquid talking to Ocelot. Then call Master Miller on the Codec. Even though he is talking to Ocelot, Master Miller will talk with you.

Annoy Mei Ling:
After successfully finishing the first scenario or at the time when the game can be saved, keep calling Mei Ling. After a while she will make funny faces and may even begin to fight.

Keep calling her and keep selecting "Do Not Save". She will tell you not to call her for no reason. She will also give you funny faces if you continue. Also, call her from the woman's bathroom.

Follow Meryl into the bathroom but do not go into the stall. Call Mei Ling up on the Codec and she will yell at you for being in the women's bathroom and tell you that she will not allow you to save (however, she will allow you to do so).

See Mei Ling in her underwear:
When you crawl into the ventilator, go find Mei Ling's cell. Look down then go back out. Come back in and look down again. Repeat this ten times and she will be in her underwear.

Get hit by Meryl:
Just before you fight Mantis, you will find yourself leading Meryl to the commander's room. On the way, punch, kick, and/or shoot Meryl. She will smack you, costing a small part of your energy. Avoiding her is easy. Shoot her from a far distance, then run. You will get away with it. Be careful -- if you do it too much, you will kill her.

Annoy Meryl:
Punch Meryl just before you fight Psycho Mantis. She will chase and punch you.

In the main hall on the floor that you fight Psycho Mantis on, go into a cardboard box and look at Meryl. The longer you look at her, the redder her face gets. She also will make some comments.

After fighting Psycho Mantis, equip your scope and zoom in on Meryl's chest. She will say "What, what is it?", "What are you staring at?", "Snake, don't look at me that way.", and "Come on, we don't have time for this."

Look at Meryl with the scope or camera.

After going to all floors, go back through the ventilation shafts and back outside to the chopper area. Call Meryl and she will say that you do not know where you are going.

Shoot Meryl with any weapon during the first battle with Sniper Wolf without leaving to get a sniper. You will get very funny calls. The more you shoot her, the more funny calls you will get.

Fighting Meryl without her losing health:
When you fight Meryl, run up to her and throw her instead of punching her. She will not lose health.

Annoy Nastassia:
Call her from the woman's bathroom.

Annoy Naomi or the Chief:
Shoot the rats or birds. Naomi or the Chief will call and reprimand you.

Smoking support from Nastassia:
Call her after hearing Naomi's long lecture about smoking. She will mention how smoking is not so bad.

Naomi's smoking warning:
Enter the inventory and begin smoking a cigarette. Then, call Naomi to hear a long lecture on why bad smoking is bad.

Ninja rescue:
Keep going through Ocelot's torture after Otacon gives you food. Do not hide under the bed but wait until the guard is done vomiting. He will have to vomit five or six times. The ninja will now help break you out.

When you are getting tortured by Ocelot and you do not submit, Johnny (the guard) will take you to the cell Although you get many chances to get out, do not. When Johnny brings yoy in for more torture, try to survive until he puts you back in the cell. Continue this process without escaping, and the ninja might be the one that breaks you out.

Annoy Ninja:
When you fight the Ninja in the computer room, toss chaff grenades. The Ninja will insult you for using weapons.

Defeating Ninja:
Put away your weapon and start punching him. He will jump away from you and put away his weapon. Throw more punches at him and he will turn invisible and hide. Throw a chaff grenade to stun him and then use your Fa-Mas/SOCOM to hurt him. Keep doing this until he is dead. Note: He may take out his weapon again if you use yours. When his health is gone, a force field will surround him. Aim at him and shoot. You will have to do this three times.

After the battle is over, when the Ninja is surrounded by the energy field, instead of finishing him off with three punches you can use any desired weapon.

After he loses his sword in Octacon's lab, throw chaff grenades. He will stop and you can run up to hit and kick him. You have to hurry because he will kneel down in about seven seconds and wait for it to clear. After you kick and hit him, he will also kneel down.

Defeating Revolver Ocelot:
Use the shoot while running trick and follow him around the arena. Keep shooting him in the back until he is down.

Use the M9 and hide behind a pillar. Go into first person view and peek out of the side (hold L1 or R1) and shoot one round at his head. Alternately, place C4 in one corner and run to the opposite one. Detonate it when he is near the bomb.

Escaping Ocelots prison cell:
Before you fight Sniper Wolf, go to the armory and get some C-4. Then, when you get caught and you have to go through torture, you will be put in a cell. When the guard goes to the bathroom (Otacon's plan) put some C-4 down and hide under the bed. The guard will come out and see that you are gone and he will enter the prison cell. Crawl out from the bed, stand up, and detonate the C-4. Then, go get your items back. There is a bomb planted in your inventory. Note: If you do not crawl out from under the bed the C-4 have no effect on the guard.

Annoy Otacon:
Shoot the Super Computers during your battle with Ninja in Otacon's lab.

Shoot a wolf before you defeat Sniper Wolf for the first time, then call Otacon once or twice.

Defeating Psycho Mantis:
Plug the controller into port two and press any button before fighting Psycho Mantis. The word "Hideo" will appear in the corner of a black screen. Use controller two to fight against Mantis to keep him from knowing your moves. Alternatively, shoot the statues in the top corners with the fa-mas to render Psycho Mantis without his psychic abilities.

Throw a stun grenade right when Psycho Mantis takes control of Meryl. When he starts to attack, pause game play and switch to controller two.

If you have a Bandana, shoot in one large circle. If he throws chairs around, crouch on the ground so you will not be hit.

If you have no way of seeing Psycho Mantis when you fight him, run around. If the screen zooms in, he is nearby.

To keep Psycho Mantis from reading your mind, destroy the two statues on both sides of the room, toward the back. They are of Mantis' face. He hates to see himself.

Seeing through Psycho Mantis' eyes (PlayStation version):
Press Triangle when fighting Psycho Mantis to see through his eyes and learn his location.

Always see Psycho Mantis:
You can see Psycho Mantis wherever he goes if you use the thermal goggles. It can be found in the room in the Tank Hangar.

Scarecrow Snake:
When Snake is going down the elevator to fight the Shaman, crows will sit on the rail. Face the front of a crow and punch it. Repeat this until Campbell contacts Snake and says that he is not being paid to be a scarecrow.

Killing Sniper Wolf:
Use the stinger missiles to kill Sniper Wolf easily in the Snow Field area. They not only reveal her location, but also home in and deliver a lot of damage. It will take about six stinger missiles to kill her, and you will almost never get hit.

Although it is easier to kill Sniper Wolf with the stinger, it is fun to kill her with the Nikita remote controlled missiles.

On second encounter with Sniper Wolf, hide behind the ride that was on the far right as you came out the door . Fire a Nikita missile at her. You have to take the missile up a gentle slope or it will hit the ground and explode.

When you are in the second battle with Sniper Wolf (in the snow field) you can defeat her easily by using the Nikita missile launcher instead of the PSG-1 sniper rifle. To do this, center yourself in the area on the left side of the little cliff in the snow. If you are not sure where it is, toggle on the Rations (so your life gets refilled while she fires at you) and you can put on the Scope and find the cliff. When you have done this, you can position yourself on the left side of it and fire the Nikita missile at her. After the missile is fired, hold Triangle and watch where the missile is going. When it reaches the left side of the cliff, it will bounce up, and from there you can find Sniper Wolf with the missile and let it hit her. Repeat this process and she will go down in no time. Note: This only works in the snow field battle.

Trick Sniper Wolf shooting (PlayStation version):
Use the Nikita while in the Snow Field area and press Triangle to get the missile-eye view. Repeat this until you se Sniper Wolf shoot behind and over her shoulder.

Annoy Vulcan Raven:
Shoot the ravens outside of the second elevator, then move on to fight Vulcan. A second sequence about why the birds should not be killed will be displayed.

Defeating Vulcan Raven:
Use the Stinger when facing those opponents. It will track them even when out-of-sight. When facing Vulcan Raven, get in an outer corner and wait until he comes into sight. Fire, then run to another outer corner and repeat.

Equip the Nikita (remote control missile launcher) and hide. Fire and use your radar to navigate the missile to Vulcan Raven. Note: You must hit him quickly in the back. Because of his genetic engineering he can sense the missile approaching, and will shoot it in mid air. It will take ten to fifteen hits to kill him, but this method is much safer.

Another technique to take out Vulcan Raven is to place claymores around the board and simply letting him walk into them. Lure him to the places that the claymores were planted by allowing him to see and follow you.

Another technique is to enter the fight with the maximum number of C4. Plant a block at an intersection of crates and watch the radar. When you see Vulcan Raven walk at the point it was placed, detonate it to blow him up and take a chunk out of his life bar. Also, to reduce damage from him, go to where the Ninja with a Level 6 card was fought and grab the Bulletproof Vest. Bring it back and wear it. It reduces the damage by about half.

When fighting Vulcan Raven the first time (in the tank), at the beginning use about three chaff grenades then run against the left wall. Keep going and watch out for mines. Run up to the tank and throw grenades on top of them or in the hole. Try to get as many as possible in the top hole so it takes his life down easier.

You can slow down Vulcan Raven's tank when fighting it by going near it (after throwing a chaff) and planting a C4 on its tracks.

When fighting Vulcan Raven the second time, shoot Stinger or Nikita missiles at him. Note: Watch out for his gun -- he can shoot it well and can shoot down boxes. Some may have items fall off them.

To avoid being caught or shot by Vulcan Raven, when you see him on the other side of your radar (opposite of you), lay down a group of claymores and run around (instead of using Nikitas to where you need to stop and risk getting caught). This may take longer, but he still loses a lot of health.

Let your mines and C4 do the work for you -- forget using the stinger. By using your Bandanna (if available), you con keep running or find a nice place to hide.

Daydreaming:
After your first meet with Vamp, Plisken will sit on the steps .Go out of the room and call him on Codec. He will start dreaming and say "Liquid". Do this at least ten times. When you keep calling him, he will say "Meryl".

Having fun with guards:
Successfully complete the game twice without submitting to Ocelot and get the stealth ability. Then, before you meet Meril to fight Psycho Mantis, go to the bathroom and a guard will using the toilet. Put on the stealth and start hitting him. You can keep on doing that until you get bored or until the other guard comes in to use the toilet.

Study a guard and observe where his route goes, and where he is in one place for the longest. Equip yourself with some C4. Get as close as you can to the guard and plant the C4. If you are close enough, it will stick on him. Hide in an ideal spot and kill him, or kill his comrades when he walks near them. The ideal location for this is when he is urinating in the level B1 bathroom of the nuclear storage facility.

Plant a claymore mine behind a urinating guard.

To annoy the guards in the beginning of the game, go underwater to the far right of the screen. There should be a light there. Stand under it, and when the guards comes around knock constantly on the wall. The guard will stand at the very edge with an exclamation point over his head and look around in all directions saying ,"Huh? What's that noise?". The guard will not stop unless you stop knocking.

After you are captured after being tortured (after the first Sniper Wolf battle), keep punching and kicking. The guard will shout things like "Shut up in there, will ya?" or "Shut up!".

Sneak up behind a guard and put him in a headlock from behind. Hold Square and move in any direction to take the guard. After a few seconds he will try to get loose. However, you can grab him again by pressing Square very fast.

Guard on the toilet:
While crawling in the air duct to save the DARPA Chief (Decoy Octopus), turn left on the first turn where the SOCOM bullets are located. Look through the first vent to see the guard of the cell on the toilet talking about Meryl.

Sick guard:
When you get into the torture room finish a session, return to the cell and let all of your escape attempts fail. Use the ketchup when the guard can see you. Hide under the bed then come out when the guard sees you are gone and let him lock the door again. When the Ninja appears and blows open the door, run out and hit the guard but do not knock him out. Run into the torture room as far as possible and you will automatically stop. When you do, the guard comes but runs to the bathroom again. For extra fun, go to the bathroom door, press against it and knock. Release the D-pad to hear the guard moan.

When being held prisoner, continue to watch the patrolling guard. After a short time, he will bolt for the bathroom and an FMV sequence will start. After it ends, lay down and crawl under the bed. The guard will not be able to see you, and will enter the cell thinking you escaped. Crawl out (you might get shot once in doing this), use the ketchup to heal, and choke out the guard. You are now free and will find your equipment nearby, Note: Reveler Ocelot planned on you escaping, and put a bomb in your equipment. Search through your things, find it, and throw it away.

Guard killed by guards:
When Otacon gives you the ketchup, escape without using it. Go somewhere outside where there are guards. Lay down in the snow and select the ketchup. Solid Snake will immediately spill the ketchup. Wait until a guard walks by and sees you. He will freak out and go for help. Hide somewhere where you can still see the ketchup stain . In a little bit, the guard return with some friends. He will show them the ketchup. One of them will get mad and shoot him.

Melting guards:
Equip the "stealth" item when you start disc two. Go to the cat walk over the liquid metal. Get in between the guard and the railing and use the "flip" technique to throw the guard over the railing into the metal.

Exploding guards (PlayStation version):
Equip the stealth gear, stand near a soldier and press Square to set a C-4 explosive. Snake should automatically move in place and set the C-4 on a soldier. Get to a save distance and detonate it.

Flying guard:
Look for an area with a lot of space in front of you and a reasonable space behind you, such as under the stairs in the tank hangar. Face the door at the other end (the room with the SOCOM suppresser) and choke a guard until he is knocked out. Place a Claymore as soon as he drops to the floor and run a short distance back. Take out your FA-MAS and point it at the guard (this is easier with Bandana) and fire, even if he is not up. When he gets up, he will fly across the screen so fast it is hilarious to see. To make it funnier, look at him in first person view or at the radar.

Hiding from guards:
Places to crawl under include the two tanks in the tank hangar, desks in various rooms, shipping trucks, and a small hole in the canyon. Crawling will prevent the guard from finding you. But do not allow the guard see you crawl under something or they will throw grenades at you.

When in the jail cell while the guard is on patrol, hide under the bed. The guard will ask, "What the hell are you doing?"

Confusing the guards:
Put on the Stealth Gear and run through a guard. He will look in the direction you came from and say "Hmm. What was that?", with a question mark over his head. When he looks that way, get in front of him and take off the stealth gear. He will be alerted of your presence. When he has seen you, put the stealth gear back on immediately, before he shoots. He will then be confused and start looking for you. You can do this as many times as needed. This also works with the search light area in the beginning of the game.

Kill less guards:
After the DARPA chief dies, Meryl will open the cell door. After the FMV sequence three will appear guards. Shoot them. Then, Snake will tell Meryl to shoot. She will kill the next set of guards. Just keep running around and Meryl will kill all the guards. This is helpful if you want to get a higher ranking at the end of the game.

Low blow attack:
While using the Stealth Camouflage crouch down and plant a C-4 on a guard's crotch. Detonate and the guard will say shout and hold himself.

Director on the soldier:
Go to the south building on basement 1. When you exit the elevator, go to your left and enter the bathroom. You will see a soldier using the facilities. Take a picture of him from the left angle. When the picture is developed, you will see the director on the soldier.

Defeating the tank:
Throw a chaff grenade on the ground, and when it explodes, run towards the tank and throw a grenade into the tank. If the grenade does not go into the tank, it will take a small amount of health off. However, if it did it will instantly kill the guard. It is possible to defeat the tank with only two grenades.

Location hints

Quick elevator (PlayStation version):
When you need to use the elevator quickly, press Circle twice and it will arrive immediately.

Faster and easier game:
When you first find Meryl and she runs into the elevator, do not chase after her. Instead, run into the door to the left of the elevator. You will only have to fight Raven in the cold room next to the furnace room and Sniper Wolf in the cleared snowy area.

When in the first area, walk over to the sleeping guard. Flip him and crawl into the vent. You will see rats in the vent. Chase them and they will lead you directly to area 2.

Open Level 5 hangar door:
After defeating Revolver and the brief talk with the arms tech president, leave that area and return to the armory (B2 of Tank Hanger). Dial 140.15 on the codec to reach Meryl. By the time you return to the first floor of the tank hanger, she will have the level 5 hanger door open for you.

Getting up the stairs in the first communications tower:
Equip the Bandanna and stun grenades just before the soldiers arrive. Run up the stairs and keep throwing grenades to keep them down.

If you have the Bandana, equip your stun grenades. When climbing the stairs, keep tossing your stun grenades and pressing Left. Do not bother to open the door on the way up, as it is frozen shut.

Passing the torture room (PlayStation version):
When in the torture room, have a friend tap Circle on controller two while Circle on controller one is also being tapped.

Open some doors without a key:
Use the guards to open doors. Just get them close enough to the door and they will open it.

Secret rooms in the Armory:
Get some C-4 from a room in the Armory, then go to the wall on the left side of the elevator. Look for the different colored wall section. Put some C-4 down and blow it up. There should be some ammunition inside. Do the same on the right side of the elevator, but watch out for the trap doors inside.

Exploding restroom:
Get the Bandana and some C-4 explosives. Go to the bathrooms on the floor where Psycho Mantis is fought. Wait for a man to go to the restroom, then equip the Bandana, place a some of the C-4s on his back, then detonate. You can place the C-4 anywhere on their body.

Getting past the blast furnace:
Go to the west wall. You should be able to walk on the ledge by pressing Up/Left.

Items in the blast furnace:
When in the blast furnace, go into the room with the steam coming out of the walls. Look around on the floor for a hole, then crawl through it. There should be two surveillance cameras and what appears to be six lockers (front to back ). There should be two boxes that contain stinger missiles and a box of chaff grenades. Look behind the six lockers to find the body armor.

Dive off the dock:
At the dock at the beginning of the game, get detected by the enemy and move towards the right side of the dock. When you reach the edge, Snake will dive off the dock and into the water. This is also shown in the FMV sequence.

Destroying the gas electric floor:
Take out your Nikita Launcher and shoot the missile directly across that room. Press Triangle (PlayStation version) after you shoot to guide it where needed. Take a right down the room and then a right around the corner across the room through that doorway (which appears to be difficult to get through), right in the room in the doorway, then left at the generator. Note: Watch out for shooting cameras. This can be repeated until you are successful. Go back and forth when air gets low out of the room.

Game glitches

Mystery suppresser:
A FMV sequence will start after Revolver Ocelot is defeated. A ninja appears and cuts Revolver's hand off. When Snake points his gun at the ninja, it has a suppresser attached, even if it was not previously obtained.

No suppresser:
After killing Sniper Wolf for the second time, she asks Snake to "set her free". When Snake shoots her, his SOCOM has no suppresser, even if it was obtained.

Shoot Liquid Snake:
After entering the third Pal code, Miller is revealed dead, and Liquid fills the room with gas, have Otacon open the door. After exiting, look slightly to the right of Metal Gear's head. You will see Liquid standing there. You can shoot him with your PSG-1, but the bullets will just bounce off. Do not use the Stinger, as it is needed for Metal Gear Rex. You cannot use the Nikita in the Metal Gear room, and you cannot get close enough to use the other weapons.

See events before they happen (PlayStation version):
Hold Triangle to look around and press L1 or R1. This will cause Snake to peek left or right. You can use this so see things before they happen. For example, immediately after the DARPA Chief dies and Meryl opens the door, stand right next to the door that was opened. Look her way, and peek. You will see Meryl pressed up against a wall. Also, in the room with all the dead bodies after the gas place, move approximately one inch away from the corner. Move all the way onto the wall across from it. Look and peek to see a guard being held up by Grey Fox. Also, before you go into the room where you fight Ocelot, blow up the wall and look inside. You can see the president held against the wall. Note: If you accidently shoot him, the game will end.

Run across noisy surfaces without being heard (PlayStation version):
Repeatedly press R1 button to equip and unequip the SOCOM. If done quickly enough, Snake will glide across the floor.

White out mode:
This trick requires six C4 explosives and a turbo controller. Go to the place where you took the elevator in the beginning. Place one C4 on each of three soldier's back and one C4 under each of the three cameras. Crawl into one of the two vents. Do not crawl all the way into the vent. Turn around so you can see outside of the vent. Pause the game. Set the turbo feature to the detonate button for the C4, then resume game play. Hold the detonate button the screen should turn white.

Fall off the side of a building:
When fighting the Hind on top of the Comm Tower, shoot a Stinger Missile at the box-like object across from the door. Set yourself up so that you are facing the corner of it with the horizon behind you. Aim at the bottom of it and shoot. If done correctly, you should four or five backflips and be standing in the air. The Hind cannot hurt you and you can still shoot at it. When you destroy it, the intermission sequence will start and you will be able to continue.

Impossible to fall:
It is impossible to fall off of Rex (the destroyed Metal Gear) despite the fact in the FMV sequence, Liquid Snake says that you will fall to your death if you cross the line. Note: You will still hang on to Rex if you cross the line. To get back up, rapidly press any button.

Impossible jeep battle:
After you defeat Metal Gear and Liquid Snake, Otacon or Meryl (depending on the torture event) will try to find a jeep in the large room down the corridor. Shoot the barrels next to the north wall. When you get in the jeep you cannot go any further, even if you kill as many guards as you can. The game will think the barrels are still there.

When you are escaping in the jeep at the very end, hold Triangle to enter first-person view mode. This can be very helpful when you are trying to shoot Liquid or the gas barrels.

Guard already beaten (PlayStation version):
Go to the lower left corner of the cell where the DARPA chief (Decoy Octopus) died. Press Left and hold Triangle. During what sounds like the guard getting beaten by Meryl, you will see Meryl just standing their with the guard already stunned.

Still alive:
After the torture, if you do not submit and just die, press Select after time runs out and you will see Snake strain -- still alive. The game will end abruptly without Liquid Snake saying "Ocelot! You did it again!".
