Change
gears quickly: Press L2 + R2 when on the world map or at a place
that you can use your Gears to hop in and out without going to the menu.
Select
same gear at the Battle Area: Hold L2 + R2 to use the same gears.
Chrono
Trigger's Lucca cameo: Lucca from Chrono Trigger is in Xenogears. After the game first
begins, take control of Fei and go to the Information House (left of the
Elder's House). Look closely to see that it is Lucca that teaches you
about Save Points.
Sound
test: When you are in the Yadrisil (Sandmarine Ship), go to the
control room and talk to the large dolphin-like control man. Choose the
top selection for a sound test. He will keep asking the same question over
and over again. Select the first choice again for a new sound, or use the
second choice to exit.
View
Gears: After winning two rounds in the battle arena in Kislev, press R2
+ L2 to remove the victory time text from the screen. Press Left
or Right to rotate your Gear.
View
all FMV sequences: Note: You must have the game Lunar: Silver Story Complete
for this trick. Place the "Making of Lunar" disc in the
PlayStation and turn on the power. Once the FMV sequence starts, open the
lid, remove the disc, and quickly replace it with Xenogears disc 1
or 2. The FMV sequences from those discs will begin to play. Note: This
can also be done with SquareSoft bonus disc that is shipped with Parasite
Eve: Highlight the "Final Fantasy 8 Demo Movie" option,
switch discs, then select that option.
Play
as Argento: In the battling area, select Special Mode One, set the
difficulty to hard, and rounds to three. Defeat every gear that is
selectable to unlock Argento in Special Mode One.
Hint:
Amusing signs: In Lahan Village, look behind the signs. There are amusing
messages written there.
Hint:
Spider and web: At the start of the game in Lahan Village at Feis house, go to
where the two barrels are located. Look around that room, and you should
see a spider web in the corner. Jump up and press X to get it. To
get the spider, go to the mountain path just before Citans house. Look at
the trees near the end of the path. You will see a spider in one of them,
but when you approach it hides quickly. If timed correctly, you can grab
it to solve the spider and its web puzzle.
Hint:
Replenish armor and fuel on all Gears: This trick is useful after getting access to the Yggdrasil, and
your Gears are damaged from battle. Simply enter the Yggdrasil and exit to
replenish the armor and fuel on all Gears.
Hint:
Change Seibzehn name: After you get Maria in your party, head to the Gear shop in the
Yggdrasil. In the shop is a man wearing all black. Talk to him. He will
tell you about how the Gear is too big to fit in the Gear Hanger and then
offer you a chance to change Seibzehn's (Maria's Gear) name.
Hint:
Actions at Bledavik Castle: Here are a few things to do when you are in Aveh.
In first floor of the
Bledavik castle is a kitchen. Hanging from the ceiling is some meat.
Jump to grab it and get some Hob-jerky.
There is also an armory on
the first floor of the Bledavik castle. In there are suits of armor on
stands. Press X on them to obtain an Iron Armor.
On the highest floor is a
room with a wine cabinet. Press X on the green wine bottle to use
the cameras throughout the castle to look at things. Press Square
to zoom in and Circle to zoom out.
Near the main entrance of
the castle is a guard near a small door. This leads to the Gebler base.
There is nothing really to do there but just explore.
Bring Emeralda to the
restaurant in Bledavik and order food to see a glitch. When she sits
down, she looks like she did when your first met her (in the test-tube).
Hint:
Zeobim ruins: On Disc 2, travel to the lighthouse near the Aquvy Islands. In
there is the vast ruins of the Zeobim and many documents and information
about the culture. If you have Emeralda in your party you can make her
"grow up". Past all the buildings is a huge parking lot. There
is a hole in the parking lot. Get out of your gears and jump into the
hole. Continue moving forward until you get to the town square, where an
intermission starts and Emeralda grows up.
Hint:
Early Kislev battling: You can use the special battle modes in Kisvel as soon as you
leave Shevat with the Yddrigsial 3.
Hint:
Fighting tip: Immediately dash up to your opponent and begin rapidly
alternating between the X (attack) and the Circle (dash)
buttons. X will launch a kick and Circle will cancel the
combo, allowing you to immediately start another. With a bit of practice,
any Gear (including the Champ's) will be in endless stagger until it is
defeated.
Hint:
More experience: If you have Elly, Emeralda, or Bart in your party you attack
your teamates with their Ether. You can kill them. which gives you more
experience points so you can level up faster. Note: This does not work
with Fei and Rico because they cannot attack their party. It also does not
work too well when you are in your Gears. Warning: Do not use this trick
when you are fighting Tears or Forbiddens because they are too strong --
as a general rule, do not use this trick on anything bigger than you are
because they will kill you.
Hint:
Easy money: This trick is only useful late on Disc 2, when you gain control
over the YggDrasil on the world map. Instead of hunting Croaker tribes and
Tusk-Tusks to earn money late in the game, an alternate is to visit Big
Joe's shop under the lighthouse. Big Joe is surrounded by four chests
which appear and regenerate each time you enter the shop. Usually, these
chests contain useless items such as Spider Webs, Radishes, Elfananas,
etc., or obsolete items such as Aquasol and Zetasol. However, occasionally
they contain items such as Eyeballs, Fangs, Scales and Ivory (very rare).
It also is not that unusual to find weapons, usually Matchlocks, which
sell for a reasonable amount of money (6000G). While this does not seem
like a good way to make money, it can be much faster (depending on your
luck) to enter, collect the contents of the chest, exit, then repeat as
opposed to flying to the Anima relic cave, spending time there trying to
earn Ivories and Scales, flying to Nortune to sell them, then flying to
where you wish to shop at.
Hint:
Metronome bank: In the capital of Nortune in the Kaiser's room, there is a
metronome bank on the shelf near the treasure chest. You will get gold if
you can stop the metronome in the center. Do this 20 times in a row to get
1000G.
Hint:
Obtaining the deathblow item: When you are on the Thames, you will encounter people who
challenge you to a game that is similar to Speed. If you win against all
the people located in the Beer hall and the Supply Grounds, go to the
Armor grounds and play against the female who is standing with two men. If
you beat her, she will give you a deathblow item for your Gear. This item
will allow you to do a deathblow attack.
Hint:
M-disk: After you become the battling champion, go to A-block in
Nortune. Find Big Joe and he will ask for you to give him 5000G in order
to look behind him. Accept his offer and he will say that he scammed you.
Later, after you get Elly back in your party, go to the main map of
Nortune. Big Joe will be there. He will give you an M-disk, which can be
used for the jukebox at the Wildcat bar in A-block and also at the battle
area on Disc 2.
Hint:
Hercules Ring: In the very beginning of the game at Citan's house, search
around the main house. Once you find a flower bed, jump behind it to the
house and search the flower bed from behind; you should find Midori's
ring. After Shevat's crash, go to the Snowfield Hideout, find Midori, and
hand the ring to her. She will give you a Hercules Ring in exchange. When
equipped, it gives 50% more experience for that character for each battle.
Hint:
Sleep: If you have a sleep item, use it against any kind of enemy.
They will not attack you until they are destroyed.
Hint:
Play as Sophia's Gear in the Battle Arena: On Disc 2, go into the final dungeon and make your way to where
you are about to fight Deus. Go to the room with Johnny the shop robot and
ask to leave. Then, go to the Arena and you can now play as the Gear.
Hint:
Kim's message to Emeralda: At some point in the game, go to Citan's house. Enter the room
with the music box. Press X on the left side of the box to read a
message to Emeralda from Kim.
Hint:
Chu-Chu on Disc 2: After all the drama in Disc 2 is over and you can move your
characters on the world map, you will notice that Chu-Chu is gone. To
obtain her again, go to the Gear hanger in the Yggdrasil. She will be in
the location where Elly's Gear was. Talk her and she will rejoin your
party.
Hint:
Defeating Hamar: This is useful during disc 2. A monster called Hamar, who
self-destructs after he glows red, is located at the dungeon where Rico
gets his new Gear. The explosion is lethal, but the party can escape
before Hamar explodes. However, the trick here is to kill him before he
blows up to receive a special item that increases the chance of receiving
rare items to 100%. Reserve some infinity or level 3 attacks until Hamar
turns red. Once he starts glowing, give it all to him. (Booster also
helps). With the special item equipped, go to any forest and fight white
snails. These creatures were plentiful in disc 1, but now they are quite
rare. Killing these creatures gives the speed belt (helps gears and human
battles). Besides this, there are many other special items/equipment
carried by monsters.
Hint:
Defeating Calamity: A huge Gear will be encountered at the end of the Stalactite
Cave. Make sure Fei and Bart are on high levels (20-25), even though it
still may be difficult win at that. Have Bart cast Wild Smile on Calamity,
making it hard for him to hit you with any of his physical attacks. Next,
hit him with all your ten point attacks, and save your energy until your
Gear power is at level one. Use your best level one combos for both Fei
and Bart, hopefully hurting the Huge gear. Keep in mind that Calamity has
2500 HP, and that it will take a while to wear him down. His missile
attack will still hit you with 400 - 500 points of damage, not giving you
much time to defeat him. Use Fei's Guided Shot as your last defense.
Hint:
Defeating Deus: Go to Joe's shop at the Lighthouse and buy the Z-gold armor.
This will you 1000 defense alone. Ignore the Omega engines because they
only have 1000 fuel. Equip three DX Armors when fighting Deus. Deus will
have a hard time doing more than several hundred damage with each attack.
Hint:
Defeating the final Boss: First, equip all Gears with Z-chargers and some sort of frame
hp (such as 90). Build up to level infinity and do the following: use
frame hp, charge (with level infinity charge is times ten), then attack.
If this is done, you will never run out of fuel and always be healed,
while doing extra damage.
Hint:
Defeating Bosses: This is a fast way of taking care of most of the Bosses when
you are not in your Gears. You will need Billy and Rico besides Fei. When
you start the battle, use Billy to cast Goddess Call on Rico, then on the
next turn use it on Fei. Once these two are "hasted", use Billy
for healing purposes, Do not attack with him as Rico and Fei will easily
be able to finish most Bosses without Billy wasting his ammunition. Have
accessories that boost attack power on the both of them, as well as use
their respective power up skills. During the Boss battle, do one weak
attack then cancel the rest to get as much AP as possible. Once you build
up to 28 AP, go to the combo menu and deal it to the bottom combos, adding
the left over AP to weaker ones. Fei's combos will do about 2000 damage if
powered up correctly. Rico's can do close to 2400. The crucial thing is to
use Goddess Call, as Rico is an extremely slow character.
Hint:
Lahan Well items: At the start of the game in Lahan, jump down the well a few
times. You will get an eyeball (sell it for gold), an Aquasol S, a Power
Ring, a chill and a lot of "well" puns.
Hint:
Alice's wedding dress: To get Alice's wedding dress, just defend through the entire
battle when you fight Dan in the Area.
Hint:
Get a Mermaid Ring: At the very beginning of the game, enter the bar in Lahan
village. Talk to the drunk by the stairs and he will ask you if you have a
problem with him drinking. Say "Drinking wont help matters!" and
he will give you an item called a "Mermaid Tear." Remember that
you have this item. Then, when Shevat is destroyed and is now the
Snowfield Hideout, there will be a woman somewhere inside She is on a
flight of stairs somewhere with her back to you. Talk to her, and after
telling you something about her son, she will craft the Mermaid Tear into
a "Mermaid Ring". You can either use this on Emeralda and
perhaps other females. It raises your character's magic power and defense
by quite a bit.
Hint:
Anima Relic Cave: When in the Anima Relic Cave on disc 2, you can get a lot of G.
Fight the Croaker Tribes to get Fangs and Scales. Fight the Tusk-Tusks to
get Ivory. You can even equip the Trader Card to get nothing but Scales
and Ivory.
Hint:
Hidden room in the Orphanage: Get the three books from the kids at the orphanage. There is a
bookcase in the back room. With Billy in your party, place the books in
there. The book case will side open a bit -- you may have to push it
slightly.
Hint:
Deathblower locations:
Deathblower1: Thames, Nisan
Revisited, and Lighthouse
Deathblower2: Sargasso Point and Lighthouse
Deathblower3: Solaris and Lighthouse
Hint:
Final Fantasy Legend 3 reference: The wolf Eidolon Fenrir is also a Boss from Final Fantasy
Legend 3 on the Game Boy that looks almost the same as the Eidolon.
Hint:
Final Fantasy 7 reference: Inside the residential section of Solaris, one of the small
apartments located near the shopping area has a poster of Tifa Lockheart
from Final Fantasy 7.
Hints:
Things to do:
In Lahan Village search
Fei's bed you will find 200 G. Also, search the barrels near Fie's room
to find two aquasols.
To get a Movie scene at the
beginning, talk to the maid in the room across from Fei's room.
Go behind Alice's house and
talk to the boy. He'll say that he had a crush on Alice. Most of the
people talk about Alice, so talk to them.
Glitch:
Size disorder: When doing Fei's Chi attack named Big Bang, it shows a huge
Earth and a small Moon before they get hit by an energy blast and explode.
When they get hit by the energy blast, it shows a huge Moon and a tiny
Earth.
Glitch:
EP and MP references: In the menu/battle screen, Ether Points are abbreviated as EP.
However, in the change party members window the same thing is referred to
as MP (Magic Points).
