Play
as Manji (Japanese version):

ji as a name.
Unlock
all faces, clothes, versus mode characters and maps:
Get 3,000 points in the story mode. The new options will not unlock at the
same time. The will become available as you get points. The best way to do
this is to play the game under the normal or hard difficulty setting. Get
Rich Samurai rank (normal or hard), Random Slasher (hard), Beast King
(normal or hard), or any of the other good ranks under those difficulties.
Hint:
Quick game completion:
Use the following steps to complete the game in about one hour. At the start
of the game, you normally fight the man. After the fight, tell him
"Ok...". He will ask if you want to join his clan. Answer
"Not interested...". After that, take out your sword to frighten
the girl. She will get scared. Say to her "Give me all your
money..." or something like that. She will run off.
Next, go to her house. Her
father will say that she has not come home yet. Leave and return to where
you were before (the bridge). Then, go back to her house again. She will be
there with a man with a afro. Have your sword drawn, and she will stay
scared. The man will tell you to put it away. Attack him, and after the
fight, he will flee. The girl will go with him. Return to the bridge again.
Once there you will fight and will kill him. After that, return to where the
girl's house is located. You see her father getting tortured.
You have two choices that can
be done here. Choose to fight the man that is kicking the old man. After
that, kill the man with the gun. Return to the bridge then go back to the
house. Walk in with your sword. The girl will run off again.
After that, join any clan and
you will finish the game. Because you are not friends with the girl, you
will eliminate a large part of the game. You will win the game and unlock
another costume.
Hint:
Best ending:
This ending can be achieved under the easy difficulty setting. However, if
you complete this in easy mode you will not receive the "Ultimate
Samurai" title. In order to get both this ending and "Ultimate
Samurai", you must be playing under the normal or hard difficulty
setting. On the morning of the first day, when Suzu is taken by Tsubouchi
first say, "I don't think she likes you." Then, draw your sword
and defeat him. He will make an offer for you to join the Koru family,
Accept it. Go to the Shire and witness the event between Huga and the
government agent (optional). After that go to the Koru residence (black
house). Then, defeat Shiretoko. He will ask you for assistance at a job.
Next, go to the Shrine and accompany him to the restaurant. Once there,
follow the orders to the letter. Do not act preemptively. Then, at dawn go
to the Akadama clan (red gang). Ignore the Akadam guard and keep on walking.
He will start a fight. Kill two of them and when Huga appears, fight him
until he offers to join you the first time (not the second), and accept.
Once inside, you can skip hearing it out and say "Lets take it
outside". Offer to take on Karibu and beat him until he is almost dead.
Then, tell him "You've lost!". He will say "Damn, you!"
or something similar. At night, go to the Shrine and resolve the matter
between Shiretoko and Murasaki without drawing your sword.. Just saying
"Please, pardon her!" will do it. Whatever else you say does not
matter as long as you did not draw your sword. Finally, during morning of
the second day, go to the Akadama Clan residence and join Kitcho-san when he
is attacking the foundry. From that point on, you can behave as desired
until the very end. When you meet with Tangawa at the shrine, do not tell
him your name.
Hint:
Ranking of King Samurai:
In order to do this, you can never be the person to start a fight, such as
just slashing and kicking people to kill them. Start by going to the Kurou
Residence and say you want to join. Go upstairs, defeat Shiretoko, and leave
to go to the Shrine. Do nothing and he will tell you to throw things around.
Next, go to the Akadama Mansion. Do not have your sword drawn. Listen to the
guard and join. When Kitcho and Karibe are about to fight, say to Kitcho
"Let me handle him", or something similar. When Karibe is has only
a little life left, say that you have lost. Next, go to the Shrine and you
will see Murasaki. When Shiretoko appears later, say "Please pardon
her". In the morning of the second day, go to the Akadama Mansion and
talk to Kitcho. The rest of the story is obvious after that.
Hint:
Restore life completely:
In the restaurant where the old man usually stands there is a brownish sort
of cake that you can eat to heal your life completely. One is also located
by the train next to the entrance of the Akadama clan. Near the bridge and
next to a small hut by the train are also farms. You can see the leaves of
radish that you can eat. These heal 300 health at a time and you do not risk
losing life.
There is another location where
you can restore your life. Go to the Akadam Mansion. You can find it past
the room with the couch and table. Head to the outside porch, then turn
right and jump off. There will be a ladder there.
Hint:
Sword moves and easy upgrades:
Get the Kurou ending under the hard difficulty setting to get the moves for
your sword. On the second day when you fight Chelsea and Karibe, get far
away and allow them to kill your allies. After they are dead, kill both of
your enemies. Later, when you get to the get to the Station when you have to
fight the government army, your ally will be a weak Korou man and will die
quickly. Keep killing all the ninjas. Do not to kill Hyuga so the ninjas
will keep attacking. When you kill a ninja, they may drop a blue or yellow
scroll. The blue scroll allows you to learns a new attack and the yellow
allows you to learn a block move. They may also drop white flasks, which
increase the life of a sword by 100 as well as white pearls on a gold-like
stick which powers up offense by 4%. Note: For the defense of the sword,
kill the regular government army soldiers. They will drop small orange bags
that power up defense by 4%. When you are done powering up your sword, kill
Hyuga.
Hint:
Attacking ninjas and other opponents:
When attacking ninjas and other opponents that like to sidestep and attack
from behind, tap R1(2) to center yourself onto your enemy with purple
head. This also blocks most attacks if you do not try forcing it back onto
the opponent. Ninjas tend to sidestep many attacks, as well as large
soldiers.
Hint:
Tennshin's Kurou sword: Get ending 2 or 3. When you get to the part where you have to
save Dona Dona, find and get him out of the Kurou residence. You will be in
Ippatsuma. Instead of dodging Tennshin, fight him. After defeating him, he
will drop his sword. It will be dark, so look carefully.
Hint:
Ultimate sword: Select a sword and start the game under the hard difficulty
setting. Go to the Kurou residents and say that you want to join. Go inside
and get ready to fight Shiretko. Fight him until his life is low and keep
restoring your life with the "Restore health" code. The more
health that you have, the more yen you will get after defeating him. Go to
the shrine and accept his mission. Follow him and do exactly as you are
told. Only smash the place up when told. When finished, go to the sword
smith and keep improving sharpness until it is at +50. Then, continue and
complete the game. When playing under the hard difficulty setting, when you
fight the government, every other government person should drop a +4
Defense. When completed, your sword should have +50 Attack and +50 Defense.
Start the game again under the hard difficulty setting, Do whatever desired
until day 1 night, then go to the Akadama clan. Keep fighting the three
members by killing them, leaving, and returning. They should drop yen, +4
Defense, health, how to block moves, and 100 life increases to your sword.
Hint:
Strongest move: Get the Tesshin Kurou sword and learn the R1 + Triangle
move. You may need a Blue Scroll for it. It does 730 damage.
Hint:
Ready stance: To get the ready stance, hold L1. Your character will grab
his sword (if sheathed) and keep his hand on the grip until you release L1.
A good way to do this is when someone is coming after you (for example, a
Boss). Hold L1 when the Boss nearby and is about to strike, release L1.
While doing the Ready Stance trick, your character will actually draw his
sword out more quickly than normal. This trick can be very useful at times,
and should only be done when someone is coming towards you or when you are
near a group of people. However this trick may be a great way to make sure
that you will not accidentally press L1 again and then have to wait
for your character to sheathe his sword. You would then have to press L1
again to get him to unsheathe his sword. This trick is very useful at the
ending. For example, while the Government's Army Soldiers are charging after
you, hold L1 and when they are near, release it. If someone attacks
you while you are doing this trick, you can quickly press R1 to block
his attack and unleash a devastating move against him.
Hint:
Faster item pick up: To pick up items (swords or healing items such as radishes and
mushrooms) during the heat of battle, you do not need to put away your
sword, bend down, and pick it up. Instead, keep your sword out and kick (R1
+ Square) to kick the item into the air and catch it (sword) or eat
it (food).
Hint:
Easy money: Join the Kurou family. Get about 50 yen fighting the man when you
join the "family." You will get about 50 yen more for baby-sitting
the kid. The night that Dona Dona goes to get the money from the residence,
go to the girl, Suzu. "Rescue" Dona Dona. When you say you are on
his side, he will call you a fool or something similar and fight you. Bring
the safe with you to Suzu. When she sees that Dona Dona is not there, she
will walk away. You can now get the 180 yen that was in the safe.
Hint:
Easy points: Progress into the game and do the best you can, preferably under
the hard difficulty setting. Once you make some progress, go to the train
place and leave the pass. That is the easiest way to get points, and has the
least cost in time. With it being in hard mode, if you get a good ranking
you get a lot of points.
Rather than spending 45 minutes
to an hour beating the entire game under the easy difficulty setting to get
about 30 points (depending on the ending you choose), you can get 30 points
in about two minutes. Start from the beginning with the game under the hard
difficulty setting. Once you start the game, pass the bridge and do not get
involved. Go to the area with the railroad, and leave the pass. You will be
awarded 30 points for merely starting a game under the hard difficulty
setting. You do not have to do anything or talk to anyone -- just leave the
pass. This allows you to new characters and other things with minimal
effort.
Start your game under the hard
difficulty setting then do the 100 man battle at the foundry on the first
day. Then, exit the pass. Depending on how many people you kill, you will
get a title, such as "Random Slasher", which gets you anywhere
from 100 to 250 points or more. This is also a good time to learn new sword
skills.
Hint:
Easy kills: On the first part of the game on day 1, skip the bridge and go
directly to the foundry. A man will talk about it. Attack him. You will then
fight 100 men. You can do this as often as needed. This will help your money
and your weapon.
Hint:
Defeating blocking opponents: To hit opponents that block frequently, pause game play and
resume. They will not be able to block your first move.
After you unlock any sword, use
the R1+ Triangle attack on any opponent that blocks all the
time.
Hint:
Learning moves: Contrary to what you may think, learning moves is quite easy. All
you need to do is deflect and successfully block your opponent's moves with
your own sword or repetitively use one particular move already on the sword.
This works best against Boss characters, as they often use many special
moves. Successfully blocking or deflecting a special move almost always
results in a new move.
Hint:
Dona Dona's home: At the beginning after you fight the man on the bridge, go
underneath it. Look in the shack and see who is in there. Talk to him, say
something like "What are you doing?". He will say "This is my
home."
Hint:
Stealing from the girl: If you befriend with the girl, you can steal her items. Just
throw them out the door then move them as desired.
Hint:
Funny father expressions: After you chase the man with the afro and the girl in the
"Quick game completion" trick, walk behind the wall and talk to
her dad.
Hint:
Funny comments: In the first part of the morning, go to the Kurou Residence and
attack the guards. After that, go to the Shrine and you will find Shiretoko.
Do not have your sword drawn. He will say a few things and ask you to do a
small job, but you will not get paid. He will ask you to climb the
watchtower. Do so, and from here you can slack off and say funny things.
Karibe will eventually appear and you can choose to do something or not.
Glitch:
Unintentional loss of swords: Sword loss can occur in several situations. Aside from being
broken during game play, there is also a way to permanently lose your swords
unintentionally. When you begin a game and take a sword out of your sword
bank, the character data is saved. To retain the swords that you have taken
with you, you must finish the game or leave the pass with your swords. If
you turn off the PlayStation2 in the middle of a game, you will lose all
swords that you took with you to the pass. This is because the game's save
system records the character data when the game begins, saving the data of
the created character, and the contents of the sword bank alike. Shutting
the game off automatically erases the saved character data, and your sword
is lost for good. Be sure to make a copy of the file on another memory card
to prevent this.
Glitch:
Living chairs: Take one of the chairs from the girl. When you exit her house,
turn right. Keep going until you reach the house on the corner to the left.
If you are friends with the girl, you will have to throw the chair out. You
should be able to jump on two stacked boxes, then the rack, and finally the
top of the house. When you are up there, try to throw the chair to the
wooden rail. It has to be in the corner, between the rail and the house next
to it. Leave it a while and it will start jumping around, side to side. You
can do this with lots of chairs. If it is in the corner and does not does
not move after a while, kick it into the corner.
Glitch:
Various pictures: At the beginning of the game when you go down what appears to be
a ramp that leads to the river, go into Dona Dona's house. Look at the
picture on his wall. Every time you start a new game from the beginning, you
will notice there will be a different picture on different sides of the
wall. For example, sometimes there will be an Old Samurai holding his sword,
sometimes two Samurais fighting each other, etc.
Glitch:
Misspelling: While you are playing the game in "Start From The
Beginning", as you play through you will see some words that are
spelled wrong in the subtitles. For example, when you first play the game
and you see the man carrying the girl on his shoulder, he will talk to you
when you are near him. When he says "You will die if you fight
us!", you will say,"Prove it!". When you defeat him and he
says, "You've won, I'm at your mercy", answer "OK" then
you refuse to join them. When the girl thanks you. she will ask if you want
a meal at the Amaguri Restaurant. Answer" Please, thank you.". She
will then say if you promise to come after a while, but spelled
"wile" instead of "while". As you keep playing, there
will be more misspelled words.
Glitch:
Fly in air: First, get Donna Donna's sword. You can get it the first night
when you go to rescue him from the Kurou house. Kill him or have him die to
get it. Learn the move "Moonwalk" (press Left, Right,
then hold Triangle). Then, go the bridge where the train is located.
Face in the direction of the track. With your sword out, use the Moonwalk.
You will walk backwards off the bridge, but will not fall. You will keep
walking until you press Triangle to fall. This can be done wherever
there is a steep drop.
Please
select the first letter of the game's title below. If the word
"The" appears at the start of a title, ignore it and search for
the second word in the title:
