Multi-player mode

Quick kill:
When you are facing a partner in multi-player and you cannot find ammunition, sneak up behind him and hit him in the back for an instant kill.

In split screen multi-player mode, equip you pistol. When you see your opposition, place the aiming circle on their chest. After each shot, aim higher until you are aiming at their head. If done correctly, it only requires three shots to kill and will leave your friends wondering what hit them.

This is a very interesting way to kill a player in a car. This trick requires is a plasma grenade and a human pistol. If your opponent tries to run you over, dodge him by moving to the left of the car. Try to get into the side seat of the car. Once this is done, throw a plasma grenade down. Jump out of the car and run. The pistol is used for backup. This may take a few times, and a few deaths.

The fastest kill other than a rocket launcher, sniper, or grenades, is to use a charged plasma pistol shot to take out shields. Then, take out your shotgun and rip through their health in one shot, if you are close enough. If done fast enough, your opponent will not know what hit them.

In any multi-player level with shotguns, get one. Instead of wasting eight shots on your opponent, try the following. Jump around to avoid their frantic shooting and get as close in as you can. Take careful aim and fire. If you were close enough, they will die in one shot. You will probably lose about half of your health every time you do this, until you get skilled.

Telefragging:
When you go through a portal and quickly back up, you do not get transported again, but instead are standing inside the portal. Then, have another person go to the opposite end of the teleporter. Have him stand there. After about three seconds the person that was inside the teleporter will be "telefragged". This trick works best in the Rat Race level.

Suicide strategy:
When on a difficult stage, send one of the players out to kill everybody and have the other player remain in a hiding spot with the plasma gun, shooting people. If the other player dies, go into hiding and wait for them to reappear.

Have your partner throw a Plasma Grenade on your back then run into a crowd of enemies. They will stay to shoot you instead of running away, even with the grenade strapped on your back.

Instant full life:
This trick works better in cooperative mode. If you need life and you have a partner, wait until you have killed 90% of the enemies around you. Then, have your partner hit you in the back with a gun. You will respawn with full life and assault rifle ammo. In single player mode, you can frag yourself but your weapons might fly across the screen and you will need to find them.

Invincibility:
When in a level that has vehicles and/or rocket launchers, when you are about to get hit or run over, pause game play, You will be invulnerable since you are "taking a break". This is a real-time pause, so everyone else can still move around and shoot.

Extra ammunition:
In cooperative mode, have your friend kill you by hitting you in back with a melee attack. Then, have him pick up your ammunition, respawn again, and repeat. Have him keep killing you until he is full, then have your player pick up your ammo after he kills you. You will then have maximum ammunition. Note: this only works for the machine gun.

In some levels at corridors, you will see an orange flash when one of team passes through a checkpoint. When this happens, get one player to stand still and hold X to reload. while other player runs back down the corridor to make the orange flash appear again. When this happens, the player who has been standing still should now empty his magazine by firing off until the gun reloads itself. When the player that held X has obtained unlimited ammunition for that level, do the same with other player. Note: Once you have unlimited ammunition, let the weapon reload automatically. If you reload manually, change weapons, press X to enter any vehicle or gun turrets, or die, you will lose this effect.

Sneak up on radar:
You can sneak up on the radar by crouching down when running.

Perfect view:
Play with four players and get one player a pair stand on top of another one. Then, get a player to stand next to the stack of people. Get the last player to stand on that one, then jump on top of the two stacked players. You will have three players stacked on top of each other, with a perfect view.

Get on top of buildings:
Go to Blood Gulch in multi-player mode (set vehicles on all). Put a Tank close to one of the buildings, then put a Warthog and a Ghost next to the Warthog. Go to the other base, pick up the Warthog, and jump the Ghost, Warthog, and Tank.

Banshees for all:
In co-op mode, take a Banshee up to the first point where the Covenant on the platform try to kill you. Have player two fly around while player one kills the Covenant and goes into the checkpoint. Both players will be in there now, even though one was in the Banshee. When you go back out to the title "Breaking stuff to look tough", there will be three Banshees. However, the Banshee that player two was in will be at have half health. If done correctly, you should have two full health Banshees and one half health Banshee. You can also have both players park on the platform, and when you come out you will have four full health Banshees.

Fly in Ghost:
Go to the multi-player screen with the Slayer, King Of The Hill, and other options. Select "Create" Allow all vehicles in multi-player. Go to either Blood Gulch or Sidewinder. You can find Tanks, Ghosts and Warthogs. Set up a Tank in a strategic place for some fun, then get out, get in a Ghost, and go as fast as you can at the tank, towards the front. When you hit it, you will fly into the air and land hard.

Stuffed in hole:
In the second level in multi-player mode, when you get to the light bridge have one person activate the bridge as another one is about to drive off. The second person (in the vehicle) will be warped to the light bridge switch, but the Warthog is nowhere to be found. You cannot really do anything now. However, if you walk about halfway across the light bridge, you can see the metal "arms" that came out. It is difficult, but possible, to jump down onto the arms. If you have good balance, you can walk on the narrow arm to the wall. Once there, you can duck down and crawl into the hole. Have the second player kill himself so that they are in the hole with you. There is a small drop off that leads down a hallway, then a wall. If one person is against the wall and kill the other one, the other one will respawn on top of their head. The player that just died can duck, jump forward, and land back on the arm. You can either kill your friend or leave him there. Crawl out of the hole and jump back onto the bridge.

On top of base at Blood Gulch:
Create a multi-player game with two people and enable all vehicles. Take the Warthog and ram it in the side door leading up to the top of the base. Then, have that person hold Up so it does not fall out. Next, have the other person use the Tank and ram the back of the Warthog. If it does not pop up, try the Ghost and ram it again. if done correctly, the Warthog should pop up to the top of the base. Note: If one side does not work try the other side.

Get a Ghost. Drive up to the sniper hill on dark ridge (by the base). When you get to the top, quickly press X, then A. You will be on top of the level. This is best done when you have a sniper and/or rocket launcher.

Grenades at Blood Gulch:
Get a few grenades and go to the sniper location behind the red base. If you aim high enough and get it dead center, you can throw a grenade into the hole on the top of the base into where the shotgun, assault rifle, and plasma rifle are located. This is useful if you see someone go in there.

Scorpion in cave at Blood Gulch:
Drive a Scorpion into the cave on the side of the level that has a very narrow opening on one side. There are two entrances to the cave, but if you can get the Scorpion into it, you will be able to destroy anyone who tries to enter. It is an easy way to obliterate your opponent.

Warthog shield in Blood Gulch:
Go to split screen multi-player mode. Go to Blood Gulch in Slayer mode. Take a Warthog and drive it up on the ledge on the left side of the Red Base. Take it up until it starts to tilt, then jump out and hit it once or twice. Half of it should be hanging off the side. Then, take your sniper or any other gun and you can shoot from under it. The Warthog acts like a shield. All shots aimed at you will usually hit the Warthog instead. This may require a few attempts.

Scorpion ramp in Blood Gulch:
Flip a scorpion upside down and put it by a base. You can use Warthogs and Ghosts to jump the base and do tricks.

Block teleporter in Blood Gulch:
You can block the teleporters by putting a Warthog or Scorpion on top of the exit.

Block teleports:
Take two vehicles and place them over the teleports. This will make it impossible for anyone to escape through the teleport from sniper shots.

Good sniper locations in Blood Gulch:
You can easily snipe the other players with a tank. Go to the end of the two parts where there is a large hill. Drive up there in a tank and aim at the other players. You will be able to see the entire level.

Set up a tank against the wall and keep backing up. Have a Warthog drive up it, and it will fly on top allowing you to use the gun on it and tear everyone up.

There is a ramp on the blue side of the map on the wall. This place is also a good place to hide, but there is a better place up higher. With the Ghost, go up the ramp, and while holding A, go slightly higher until you have reached your destination -- anywhere works. Make sure you are facing the red side (get out on the right side). Press X to exit and you will fall slightly, but the Ghost hold you up. You can duck or do whatever us needed to stay behind it. You can see the whole map with this sniping position.

Near the base with the shadow to your right, you can "climb" up the wall and find a sniping post with plenty of warning from rockets and grenades. First, you need to have lots of ammunition, preferably for the sniper rifle and rocket launcher. Next, grab a Ghost. At the base of the wall is a patch of dirt with no grass. That is your mark. When you drive the Ghost, notice that you always get out on one specific side. You will have to drive toward that spot on the wall with that side facing the wall. Then, when you get to a certain point, you can get out of the Ghost and it should push you up the wall, all the way to the top. This is difficult to do. You have to be going at top speed, have to press X about one to two seconds early, and have to go straight at the wall at the patch of dirt. Otherwise, you will end up almost there, not jumping as high, or falling where there is not a decline (and take slight damage). You cannot fall off the back edge, but you can fall forward and either die or take damage.

When you are playing capture the flag, just get the sniper rifle, go to the top of your base, and jump on the little ledge next to the warp. From there, jump onto the warp. This allows you to see the rocket launcher location and have a clear view all the way to the other base.

Get a Scorpion Tank and ride it to the creek between the bases. Park your Scorpion Tank in front of the ladder. Climb the ladder, and at the top you will find a sniper rifle and some ammunition. This will not only block player two, but will give you a good chance of killing him/her if you have good aim.

Play the level with at least tanks turned on and two players needed. Have one player get in a tank and drive it to the big tree. When he gets to the tree, have him lift his turret to where the big opening in the tree is located. Next, have the second player gets on the large part of the turret. Walk on the turret very steadily. When that player is about to fall, jump forward into the large space in the tree. He can take out his sniper rifle and shoot from this position.

There is a perfect sniping spot on the side of the wall by the Blue base. Get the sniper rifle and go down to the right. Walk along the wall and you will see a slant. Walk up the slant to reach the sniping location. You can see everything from up there.

If you are playing as the Blue team in capture the flag, get a sniper and go to the left along the wall before the entrance to the cave. The wall has a dip that goes back into the wall and downward. You can ambush anyone coming out of the cave, and see anyone going into your base.

When at the Red base, get the sniper rifle, assault rifle, and as many grenades as possible. In back of the Red base is a very big hill. Walk up it on the left or drive up on the right. There are two big rocks to hide behind. Take out your sniper rifle and you will be able to see almost the entire field. If someone follows the smoke trail from your bullets and tries to get you, either wait until they get close enough then lay grenades on the floor; start shooting them with your assault rifle; take them out with your sniper before they get barley close enough to hit you; or exit with a vehicle parked close by. This may take a while, but if you keep going back for ammunition and have good aim, you will not get killed once and will win.

Sniper locations in Battle Creek:
There are multiple sniper platforms in various places around the level. You can access the large beam in the middle of the level either from running up it from the ground near the river, or you can jump over to it from one of the sniper rifle locations. On top is the rocket launcher, which is extremely useful in this small map. If you look along the beam, to your left is a small ridge which you can land on and is also a good sniper platform. You can also access the roofs of the structures from the right side if you are looking from the front doorway to the river.

The following sniper positions and strategies should be used for capture the flag. You can get on top of the bases of Battle Creek. At each base there is at least one way to get on top of it. If you are facing the front entrance of either base, on the left side you will find either a rock or a metal wall protruding from the base. Jump on top of the rock or wall then jump up onto the base. On top you will find great sniping positions as well as a hole on top the base for capture the flag strategies. However, the only way to get on top of the base is from outside the base. Also, you can jump through the side window of one of the bases; the one with the rocks around the sides of it.

Cloak in Battle Creek:
If there is a river looking part directly in the middle of the level below the beam, look all the way down the river. On one of the sides there is a cloak. To temporarily stop people from seeing the cloak, you can shoot it with a gun and it will go down in the water.

Hiding location in Chill Out:
In Chill Out, there is a room next to the Over Shields. It has two platforms and a very large pillar. You can get on top of the pillar. Make sure to put on anything higher than 100% health and have some fragmentation grenades and a rocket launcher. Start by grabbing the Over Shield. Then, go to the small platform in between the pillar and the Over Shields. Go in between the pillar and the platform, and back up to the platform. Look at the ground and throw a fragmentation grenade. Immediately before it explodes, rocket jump towards the pillar. You will land on top, and be at the highest point in the level.

Less enemies in The Maw:
In cooperative mode, when you are heading for the room where you blow up the reactors, stop when you come down the hall with two rectangular computer facing each other. Have one player stay there and the other go ahead and destroy the reactors. There should be no enemies there, except the Monitor and probably some of the really small Flood that jump on you.

Ambush in Sidewinder:
In the Sidewinder level, go to the blue base. Jump up on the cliff to the left of the base. Then, stand directly outside of the hallway that slants down. Look down, throw a human grenade, and jump. Immediately before it explodes, shoot a rocket down. Hold Back when in the air, and you should make it to a glitched location, with no scenery. Walk around a bit, and you should see a hole that leads to one of the level's tunnels. Stay there until someone comes under the hole. You should be able to jump down and ambush them unexpectedly.

Good sniping locations in Sidewinder:
Get up on the mountains. Set the map for all vehicles. Take the tank and drive it up the ramp near the blue base. Go into one of the corners and turn the tank around and back it up into the wall. Then, run and get the Ghost and use the tank as a ramp to get up onto the mountain/cliff/wall. This will take a few attempts. This is a good sniper location.

On the hill by the blue or red base, set it so that you have a Ghost and tank. Drive the tank up the hill by the portal exit. Park the tank's back on the edge of the stage. Drive a Ghost up it and get on top of the stage. Use a sniper or rocket launcher to snipe all of your friends out. They cannot see or touch you. You can fall back onto the stage -- do not get too close to the edge.

Capture The Flag Throw in Sidewinder:
You must have at least two people on your team to do this trick. When playing Capture The Flag at Sidewinder, have one person get the flag, while another stands at the bar gate with the Active Camouflage and the Overshield. Make sure that he is on your base's side of it. When the other person gets the flag, have them run into the tunnel at the other base and to the gate. When they get there, have them "throw" the flag through the gate by pressing R to bring out your weapon. The person on the other side will pick it up then run with the flag to your base and score a point. This works well when they are getting chased, and they will also avoid being out in the open much.

Easy Capture The Flag:
When playing Capture The Flag with vehicles in Blood Gulch or Sidewinder, put in Warthogs and Ghosts in the base. This makes it harder to get in and take the flag. This does not work with tanks.

Completing under legendary difficulty:
If you are playing the levels in cooperative mode under the legendary difficulty setting, have one person stay behind and the other one charge into battle. Keep doing this until the room is cleared. Have the person with the worst inventory go into battle. When they lose their items when they die, you will still have the good weapons.

Recommended weapons:
The weapons of choice are a shotgun or rifle, and a sniper. This allows you good coverage for short and long-range battles. The sniper helps you take out people that unaware you are aiming at them or in tanks. The shotgun is useful in close combat. Also, do not forget melee attacks and grenades.

Spin The Gun:
Create a multi-player game with one life instead of infinite. Start the game, find a gun on the ground, and shoot it with a gun that uses bullets. The gun will spin around. Have four people surround the gun, shoot it and whoever the gun points at after its done spinning will be killed. Whoever remains after the final kill is the winner, just like spin the bottle, but with guns.

Fun with vehicles:
In multi-player, split screen mode, create a game type that has all the vehicles. Set up the tanks and Warthogs. Get in a Ghost and try to run into the tanks to do some really cool tricks. Your also can Get the warthog to do some tricks.

This trick can take a while to set up, but if done correctly the results are well worth the effort. Get a group of grenades on the ground in one location. In single player this can be done by killing marines and having them drop their grenades. Note: Marines do not seem to drop grenades under the easy difficulty setting, but will do so under the normal setting or higher. In cooperative multi-player mode, have a player pick up grenades from elsewhere, then have the second player kill them at the desired location for them to be dropped. Park a vehicle such as the Warthog on top of the pile of grenades. Throw a grenade onto the pile. The explosion of the first grenade will set off the others a split second later, launching the vehicle on top of them high into the air.

Go to the Blood Gulch level. Set the level on all vehicles. Park the Warthog's tail end touching the base in between one of the gaps of the "shields" up on top. Get the rocket launcher (or tank) and start shooting the Warthog towards the middle of where the it is above the ground. The Warthog will fly up in the air and land on the top of the base. This will not always work on the first attempt -- keep trying. You can do the same with the Ghost, which is easier. Park the Warthog as done before. Then, get some space and hover as fast as you can directly into the center of the warthog. You once again will fly up on top, usually on the first try. Either way, they both make good turrets. Note: You must be careful. If you drive incorrectly on top of the base, you could fall through the center, and thus have no Warthog for the rest of the game. The same applies with a grenade, rocket, tank shell, etc.

Go to multi-player mode, and then to the select game type. Set the game to infinite grenades, rocket launchers for the weapon, and a Warthog as the vehicle. Choose Bloody Gulch as the level. The name of the game is "Hogball". The only objective is to blow the Warthog as high as you can by throwing grenades at it, then shooting it with a rocket launcher or any combination of the two. This gets even more exciting by hooking up two or more systems together. You can have up to sixteen players and four Warthogs. It is possible to get a Warthog to stay aloft for 9 seconds. Also try to hit it with a rocket on its journey back down.

Set the multi-player settings so all vehicles are on, then choose a level such as Sidewinder or Blood Gulch. Drive a Scorpion Tank to another Scorpion Tank, leaving a small space between them. Find a Warthog and drive over the edge of one of the tanks. You will do flips and spins, and sometimes go high in the air as if they are on a hill. You can also hit into the other tank for even more air and spin time. You may need to increase or decrease the space between the tanks for this to work.

Fun with plasma grenades:
Create your own multi-player settings, and set infinite grenades and all vehicles. Start the multi-player game, then kill yourself. You will get plasma grenades after you have died once. Go to kill the other player. Throw a plasma grenade "under" his body and he will fly all over you. Throw more grenades on him for more fun.

You can also blow up vehicles with your plasma grenades. Throw a plasma grenade on the door of the Warthog and it will make a barrel roll, flipping sideways. Throw a plasma grenade on the front of the car or on the back of it.

Try using plasma grenades to stick to Warthogs. Try to get the Warthog to launch into the air, land on, and kill opponents.

Place a plasma grenade about the length of an assault rifle away from another one on a flat surface, preferably the open spaces in Sidewinder, but not on the ice. The grenade placed second will launch about fifty yards in the opposite direction of the first one then detonate about fifteen feet in the air. Stage battles using infinite grenades and launch them at each other. Remember to back away from the grenades as soon as you throw them.

Place two plasma grenades exactly on top of each other on a flat surface. Do this by not moving your crosshairs and moving anywhere. Back away and the second grenade should shoot upwardsm making a useful flare for matches with no radar, infinite grenades, and where you need to get you teammates' attention. You can also do this under a cliff when there is someone sniping off the edge and they cannot see you.

Combat

Faster reloading:
To reload most weapons faster, press X. Then shortly after that, press B to melee. Note: For the shotgun this will cause you to stop reloading all together.

Use the following trick to almost instantly reload any weapon. Tap X(2), then quickly tap Y to switch to your secondary weapon. After a few seconds, press Y again to switch back to your first weapon. If done correctly, it will be fully reloaded. If the audio volume is high enough, you will be able to hear your weapon reloading in the background. When you hear it click, it is finished reloading. This works with any weapon. With the shotgun, the longer you wait, the more shells will be reloaded when you switch back to it.

Free reload:
This trick can be used anywhere, but is very useful when playing in multi-player-split-screen mide. Have a gun that takes clips, not batteries (for example, the plasma rifle and plasma pistol). When you are running out of ammunition, find a gun on the ground that you do not have. Back away from it just enough so that the "Press X to switch gun" message appears. Press X to manually reload very quickly. Once Master Chief has pulled the clip from the gun, move towards the gun on the ground and press X. If done correctly, you should hear the sound of your gun reloading. When the noise stops, swap the gun you had with the gun that you picked up. Notice that the gun reloaded, but did not use any ammunition to do so.

Easy shotgun reload:
When you are reloading, quickly tap Fire. The reloading should stop and you will fire a shot. You should have half a clip remaining. Note: Only do this in an emergency, and it works best against the Flood.

Fast weapon switch and melee combo:
Shoot a gun until the clip is empty. Next, instead of waiting for Master Chief to reload his gun or switch to your other gun, press Y + B. Master Chief will then melee the other gun, and the switch is somewhat faster.

Extra ammunition:
If you shoot your fellow Marines you can pick up their ammunition. Make sure to only kill a straggler unless you are prepared to take on all of the Marines. They will turn on you if you kill more than one of them.

In any level with Marines, you will always have a chance for ammunition. No matter how many rounds are fired by your Marines, you will always pick up the same amount when they fall in battle. When you are hard-pressed for ammunition and you have three or four Marines remaining, kill them. They might fight back, but they are easy to eliminate. However, they only carry plasma rifles, sniper rifles, assault rifles, and sometimes needlers. If you have a rocket launcher, there is no point in killing them.

Extra shotgun ammunition:
Take a shotgun that has 12 shots and 0 clips. After you shoot it a few times, you should be able to reload manually. You can do this about ten times.

Effective pistol use:
The best weapon in the game is the Human Pistol. Three hit kills and unlimited range make this the most overpowered weapon in the game. In any map, if someone runs at you with a shotgun shooting wildly, take out your pistol and shoot them. The most important factor with this gun it to squeeze off every round with a different pull of the trigger. Do not hold the trigger for full auto; press the button individually for each shot. When you do this, the accuracy will be improved.

More accurate plasma rifle:
Instead of holding down Fire, tap it very quickly. It should shoot much more accurately and will not overheat as easily.

Supercharged weapon:
Whenever you have a plasma gun, when shooting hold R and instead of shooting one shot, it will shoot ten in one large blast.

Scooping up weapons:
You do not need to stop on top of a weapon to pick it up. Hold X while moving over a weapon and you will swap it without slowing down. It will even interrupt the reloading action initiated when you started holding X.

Double hit:
Hit a target with your gun and immediately afterwards, throw a grenade then hit them again. This way you will not have to wait for the gun to go back and do it again.

When you are attacking an enemy, you can hit him twice very quickly by pressing B then throwing a grenade and quickly pressing B again. You will throw a grenade in between hits, but will also be able to hit two times very quickly.

Double melee attack:
Get a grenade, or play a multi-player game with infinite grenades. Melee, then quickly melee again while throwing a grenade (press B, then just as your character finishes his melee, press the L + B). If done correctly, your character will melee twice, but in-between melees throw a grenade. If your use fragmentation grenades in multi-player mode, other characters will not see you throw the grenade and can easily be destroyed by it. If your grenade is not plasma, it may bounce off your enemy and blow you up as well.

While running, your melee attacks are stronger, but still not as strong as while jumping.

Throw a grenade and melee at the same time. Sometimes you will get a double melee attack.

Telefragged:
There is a kill in the game known as Telefragged. To do this easily, play in multi-player mode on the Battle Creek level. Have player one go into the teleporter. When they get to the other side, move player one backwards until they are inside the teleporter. Then, have player two to go to the free teleporter and move into it. Player one's screen will start to go white. When the screen is completely white, player one will die and player two will teleport on top of them. At the top of player one's screen, the message "You have been telefragged" will appear.

Winning in multi-player mode:

If you stand still, you will not appear on the motion tracker. This will give you the element of surprise.

The sniper rifle is an excellent way to spot or kill an opponent. A direct hit in the head with normal (100%) health settings will kill them in one hit. If you miss, your bullet traces will give you away. If sniping, be sure to stay in the shadows. Blood Gulch is an excellent sniping area.

A Ghost can defeat a Scorpion. While in the ghost, hold Right or Left and keep your crosshair on the tank, and keep moving in a circle around it. Constantly shoot, and the rounds will slow down the Scorpion. You should not get killed if done correctly.

The best combos are Pistol and Shotgun; Plasma Pistol and AR; and Shotgun and SPNKr (rocket launcher).

Always keep moving. If you stop, you are as good as dead if there is a sniper. Never get in the gunner seat of a Warthog unless you definitely know that there are no snipers or you have a driver.

Grenade rain:
Play a multi-player game with infinite grenades. Move forward, look up, and turn, while throwing grenades. If an enemy is approaching, rotate in different directions frantically, and look up and down. Grenades will go everywhere but on you, and amateur players will be surprised and possibly killed. Experts, however, will probably get close enough to kill you unless you get a lucky hit. In any case, if the plan is not fully effective, pick off stragglers with a secret grenade using the "Double melee attack" trick.

Frag grenades:
When you throw a frag grenade, it will have a small glow where the pin was pulled. It is not very bright or very big; look carefully to see it. Its easier if you know the direction that you threw it and the estimated distance. Watch for this so you do not step on it, or in multi player co-op mode, that you do not kill your teammate or yourself. This also works well if you accidentally threw a grenade.

Suicide grenadier:
When facing a group of difficult enemies in cooperative multi-player mode, leave the room and put a plasma grenade on your partner. He can run into the group of enemies, blowing them up. Wait for him to respawn and repeat as many times as desired.

Super bombs:
Choose any multi-player level and make sure you have at least one plasma grenade, one frag grenade, and more that 100% health. Choose a location where the plasma and frag grenades will not bounce all over. Throw the plasma grenade, and as soon and you pull the trigger, press the Change Grenade and immediately throw the frag grenade. If done correctly, the two grenades will explode at the same time and place. This is useful for making Ghosts and Warthogs fly far.

Choose any multi-player level and make sure you have at least one plasma grenade, one frag grenade, one rocket, and more than 150% health. Choose a location where the plasma and frag grenades will not bounce all over. Throw the plasma grenade, and as soon and you pull the trigger, press the Change Grenade and immediately throw the frag grenade. Also, aim a little lower and fire. If done correctly, the grenades and rocket will explode at the same time and location. In addition to making Warthogs and Ghosts fly, this can also flip a Tank halfway over. Combine this with more people to create even more of an explosion. Two people can make a tank do an entire flip.

Blue shields:
In some levels there are blue shields that you can hide behind. Opponents cannot see you there, but you can see them.

Stronger melee attacks:
Jump in the air and your melee attacks will be stronger while you are falling.

Defeating Covenants:
When Covenant dropship is getting ready to unload a group of Covenants, throw a grenade into the door as it opens. The blast will kill several of the enemies since they are all in one area.

There are places (especially in the first level) where a groups of Covenants are, waiting for you to barge in and start shooting. If you can, sneak to the aliens and throw a grenade into their midst. It is best when a plasma grenade sticks to a Grunt, because he will run behind the rest of his companions. One simple grenade can take out five Covenants.

When trying to kill Covenants, jump over them (so you can look at their back) then shoot or hit them with the butt of your gun.

When playing in legendary mode, have a plasma weapon (Plasma Pistol recommended) and a Human Pistol. First, use the plasma weapon to blow off the Covenent's shield. Then, use the Human Pistol to kill them.

You can stun a Covenant drop ship's gun turret with a plasma grenade for three seconds, if you place it on or near the turret.

Defeating Elites:
Find a needler and waste a clip on an Elite during the early levels. This will take out the Elite and the gathered needles form grenade-like explosions, injuring if not killing anything near the target.

Hold R to fully charge a Covenent energy pistol. You can continue to hold the charge indefinitely. Find an Elite and blast him. Depending on the distance to him, he will sometimes flex and get angry. When he does this, walk up and punch him with the pistol. On the easy difficulty setting, he will die immediately.

Use the plasma pistol and charge up or use a different plasma weapon to lower the shields. Plasma lowers shields faster than bullets. Then, switch to the assault rifle and kill him. Bullets will kill everything except shielded enemies faster.

Equip the assault rifle and aim at an Elite. When they start running towards you, tap R lightly to get short bursts of fire from your rifle. About five bursts will take down their shields. You can now use bursts or melee attacks to finish them off. If you fire your bursts fast enough, they will hardly move or fire back.

Get a plasma pistol, charge it up, and fire at the elite. The blast will completely remove his shields. Then, take out a human pistol, zoom in, and take him out with a single head shot. This is almost the only way to take out Elites under the legendary difficulty setting, as they can remove your shields and kill you with about five shots of their plasma rifle. If they are in the open, get a Needler and empty an entire clip in the direction of the Elite. If at least twelve hit, the Elite will die under the legendary difficulty setting.

There are a few ways to kill Elites faster than usual. The first is a plasma grenade to the face. The second is the needler; unload a full clip and watch the Elites die. Finally, get a pistol and a plasma pistol. Charge up plasma and fire it at the Elite. Then, as soon as you have fired plasma, switch to normal pistol, and zoom in. Aim for Elite's head and fire.

When an Elite is about to melee attack you, melee attack him twice. Until he is away from you, shoot him with the assault rifle.

Elites' strength differs from what rank, or color, they are. Blue is the weakest; Black and Gold are the strongest. They are usually equipped with plasma rifle or needles, though some carry a beam sword. It is easiest to kill them is with explosives or automatic weapons. The shotgun is also effective. The sniper rifle will go through the Elite's body shields and kill him instantly.

Besides the sniper rifle or rocket launcher, the plasma rifle or pistol can do the job. Covenant are lethal, but take more damage from weapons that are plasma. Run straight at an Elite, holding down the trigger on the plasma rifle. If you hit it enough times, its shields will wear out. If your gun overheats, smack it up side the head with the rifle. This works even under the legendary difficulty setting, but you will most likely need a health pack afterwards, since about four shots will kill your shields.

Get a plasma pistol. Hold L until it is fully powered. Release L, then melee attack it while it is still stunned.

If you see a yellow Elite and you have plasma grenades, save at least one. Use your others to take out the Covenant around him. Then, you can finally annihilate the Elite with your plasma grenade. If you miss, use a shotgun to take him down. Another good way to kill the yellow Elite is to snipe him out with a rocket launcher. However if he is invisible take him out with a grenade. If desired you can kill the Elite first, then the Grunts will run around helplessly and will not shoot you.

On any co-operative mission where you have to fight gold or red Elites, have a partner shoot at an unsuspecting Elite. Then, hit the Elite on the back of the head while he is distracted by your partner. This also works well against Hunters if you shoot the orange spot on their necks.

Defeating Flood types:
Do not try to take out any Flood types with a sniper rifle. It will simply go through their bodies without killing them. The weapon of choice is the shotgun. You can take them down with one shot. Remember, the closer they are, the faster they fall.

On the small crawling Flood, use your assault rifle in short controlled bursts. Once one pops, it will also pop the ones nearby. Save shotgun and pistol ammunition for the working class Flood to drop them fast. It is also a good idea to hit them with your gun after they fall to make sure they are dead. On the fat Flood, use the shotgun to pop them, then clean up with rifle.

When you first meet the Flood, they will outnumber you in groups. For the large Flood, use a shotgun, rocket launcher, or most importantly, a fragmentation grenade. Do not use a plasma grenade because they will run towards you and kill you.

When you get attacked by the Flood, after you make them fall down the first time, shoot their head off while they are on the ground. They will not get back up.

Most of the Flood attack you with weapons and strong melee attacks with their arms. Some of the combat form Flood are harmless. They may chase you, but they cannot inflict any damage. You can tell that they are harmless by noticing that they have no arms. Do not waste ammunition on these harmless flood -- just melee attack them. Be careful not to mistake the harmless for the harmful types.

To end all Flood types quickly under the easy difficulty setting, crouch down and shoot their legs with the shotgun. You do not have to crouch yet when they are swarming on you -- it seems to confuse them. Stay crouched, pivot, and fire. Also try to alternate shooting, crouching, and shooting, etc.

Melee any Flood that are too close. This will buy time to shoot other Flood and save your Shield. This also works against jumping Flood.

When battling the Flood, use human weapons such as rockets, frag grenades, pistols, assault rifles, and especially shotguns. After you have knocked one of the enemies down, hit them with the butt of your gun to kill them permanently.

To kill the little Flood heads faster,. use a Needler. Shoot one needle at the heads. This needle will blow up and cause others around it to die. Also, the head that has the needler stuck in it will blow up. The combined force of both explosions will take out a lot of them without using much ammunition.

The small flood Are easiest to kill with the MA5B assault rife. The pistol also works, but the assault rifle has more ammunition. The larger ones (infested Elite type) are easiest to kill with shotgun and pistol. The rocket launcher can also be used, but they can often dodge the rocket. The smaller ones (infested Marine type) are the same. They are faster and jump higher than the Elites, and more often carry human weapons. The good thing is, especially under the easy difficulty setting, they will run over to you, hit you, then just stand there. This is the best time to kill them. For the big balloon types, the plasma pistol works surprisingly well, as does the pistol and shotgun. Sometimes if you kill one of the Elite or Human Floods, they drop grenades. This is very useful if one of the balloon types is behind them. Blow him up, and the grenades also will explode, killing the little ones that appear and anyone around.

To kill the big Floods easily, hit them with a rocket launcher, frag grenade, shotgun, or plasma grenade. You can also use assault rifles and other weapons not previously mentioned to shoot them until they fall, but are not dead. Then, use the B melee attack when they are on floor about three to five times for the kill.

When facing a large number of the Flood, use plasma grenades and a Human or Covenant version of the assault rifle. Note: This works best with the smaller ones.

The pod Flood forms are very fragile and easy to destroy. They can be a nuisance in large groups. It is easiest to destroy them with a grenade or automatic weapons

Combat Flood forms are reasonably difficult to kill. They will use whatever weapons they can find, with no regard of their or other Flood's safety. They will run quickly and can jump long distances. Any weapon that dose and decent damage will suffice, but the shotgun is preferred. The Flood will get up after being killed if not enough damage was done the first time; aim for the head or arms to blow them off tp make them less threatening.

Carrier Flood forms are rather fat and slow. When killed, they will explode and eject pod forms. These enemies travel in groups with other carriers or Flood. The explosion will kill surrounding Flood as well as set of loose grenades; be careful.

After you encounter the Flood, you will notice three types: small bulb-like ones, larger fighting ones, and even bigger carriers that spew out the smaller ones. When playing under the easy or normal difficulty setting, always concentrate your fire on the large ones, especially the ones with weapons. The small bulb like ones will hurt your shields, but only slightly, and are not an immediate threat. They start to really hurt you only when your shields are down. Also, when a carrier form is around lots of the combat ones, fire on the carrier. It will explode and blast the others out of your way. They wukk get back up, but are out of the way temporarily.

When you first discover the Flood, you will notice that the larger forms will jump high into the air and come down on top of you, hurting you. To stop them, simply look at them as they are coming down and melee attack them. They will halt in the air, and fall to the ground, stunned. This will give you a chance to kill him with whatever weapon desired.

Flood infection forms:
The Flood infection forms (the small ones) are deadly when you do not have a shield. Normally they pop, but without a shield, they drain your life slowly away. The only way to get rid of them is to run away, then shoot. Do not always shrug off the infection forms, as that can get you killed.

Making sure Flood are dead:
After you shoot a Flood and it is on the ground, move your crosshairs over it. If it remains blue, the Flood is dead. If it turns red, blow it to bits.

Fun with the Flood:
Use the human handgun to shoot the weapon out of the Flood's hand, without shooting off the limb. The Maw is a good place to try this.

On any level with the Flood, kill one of the bigger ones. If you look down at it, it may have one of those messed up arms. You are able to shoot the arms and the head off.

On the second Assault On The Control room, there is a room that has only the smaller, more human-like Flood. You can shoot their arms off and they cannot hurt you. They will only chase you around. To have more fun, you can try to blow off the top of their head. Most of the time this does not kill them, and you can see their brain.

Shoot off the arms of any flood and it will follow you around like a dog. Weapons that can shoot off arms are the assault rifle and human pistol.

Use Flood as slaves:
To make flood your slaves, simply shoot their arms off. They will follow you around and attack Covenant. However, they will not attack their own kind. Also, if the Flood you are shooting at has a gun, only shoot off the arm without a gun. This very useful when fighting large numbers of Covenant.

Conserve ammo while fighting Flood:
When fighting the Flood, only fight the combat and carrier forms. If you are against only a few of the little ones, do not shoot. Your shield will be able to take most of the damage. Only shoot them when they are in very big numbers.

Defeating Flugs:
In the later levels of the game you will encounter new enemies called Flugs. These enemies will be small at first, but they will attack and control anything alive. Use a shotgun on these baby Flug as they tend to group in large numbers. By using the shotgun it will send a storm of bullets and kill most of them that are around. Use a shotgun on the possessed Flug, and it will kill most of them in one shot. This is made easier by the fact that most of them carry shotguns.

If you use a shotgun on the Flugs, it is much easier to kill them. They do not run away from grenades, which work very well against them.

Defeating Grunts:
When the Grunts are sleeping you can beat them to death with the butt of your gun without waking up any of the other Grunts. You can usually kill a four to seven of them before an alien spots you. They start sleeping in level 5, Assault on the Control Room. Just remember not to shoot or they will wake up.

Grunts are rather weak and easy to kill. They are armed with a plasma pistol or needler. They will carry fuel rods from multi-player mode in later levels. Any weapon can easily kill them, though a melee is quicker.

Fun with Hunters:
If you are a skilled player, you can kill a Grunt and lure a Hunter over to it. Wait until he melees and move out of the way. The hunter will hit the Grunt and it will fly farther than if you hit it with a rocket launcher. For a harder challenge but farther distance, try getting it to hit a live Grunt.

Defeating Hunters:
Normally Hunters are the hardest Covenant to kill, due to their powerful armor and shields. However, even the strongest armor has weak spots. If you look at their necks or backs, you can see an orange spot. Aim for it. One shot with the human pistol, sniper rifle, and shotgun will kill them if you hit them there.

The best way to kill a hunter is to use a sniper rifle to zoom in on the orange spot.

If you are being chased by a Hunter or an alien with a sword, run backwards while facing the alien. Jump when they try to slash you. Throw a plasma grenade at the alien and it will stick to him. Turn around and run in a zig-zag pattern to make sure he does not catch you in the explosion.

If you are playing cooperative multi-player mode, have player two run in front of the Hunter until his back is turned to player one. While the Hunter is trying to turn player two into mush, have player one run up to the Hunter's back and melee attack the orange spot. The Hunter should die with several hits.

You can kill the Hunters in a head-on assault. Get in close and use the pistol or shotgun. Aim for the head holding down the trigger. Your first shot(s) will knock back the head, exposing the unarmored neck. One shot in the neck and they will die.

An easy way to kill a Hunter is to hit them with a vehicle. If you chase them with the vehicle, they will try to dodge.

Throw plasmas grenades on them. It may take a some practice to get them stuck on a Hunter, but with two grenades, he will probably be dead (depending on the difficulty setting). Note: Do not stand too close or you may be blown up, and the plasma grenade will not stick to his shield.

Hit Hunters with a melee attack. They will put their head down and the orange spot there can be seen. Melee attack that spot to kill them faster.

Shoot a Hunter in the orange spot in his midsection with a shotgun at point blank range. This will kill it on every setting, including legendary.

If sniping Hunters is not fun for you, try this. Approach a Hunter, being sure to avoid any blasts from his fuel rod cannon. Shoot him a few times to make him charge, and as he starts his melee attack, quickly sidestep around him until you face his back. If done correctly, you should be looking at his back before he finishes his attack. When you are looking at the back, shoot it as many times as you can before he turns around. For even more fun, charge as you are shooting his back and press B when in range for a melee attack. The best gun for this attack is the shotgun, but the assault rifle also works.

Notice that Hunters are left-handed and uses that side to melee attack. To dodge the attack, jump above him on his right side. He will completely miss you. While in the air, turn around to face him. He will still be looking that way, giving you the chance to kill him without being hit by his melee attack. To do so easily, crouch down and melee or shoot him in the bright orange spot.

Wait until Hunters charge you, then step back so they hit air. Shoot them in the stomach with a pistol once their arm is in mid-air. This should kill them.

Although Hunters are equipped with the strongest armor, shield, and a plasma launcher, they are very slow and can never catch you if you keep moving. Hunters are can be easily out-run, but do not try to do so. Close-ranged battles with Hunters are wiser. Step to your left when one tries to melee attack and it will miss. You can now attack him in the orange spot (pistol does a one shot kill) when he is facing the other way, or make him fall to his death. Note: Because of their body armor, Hunters can survive a fall three times more than you can. However, if you try to fight from far away, they can shoot you with a plasma launcher. If you want to fight from a distance, use a sniper rifle and snipe the orange spot. Make sure that he does not see you. Hunters cannot be easily killed by explosives because of their armor and shield. Be careful when two or more Hunters are on you -- dodging both can be difficult and sometimes they can really hurt you.

On levels with Hunters in a building, do not run up and attack. First, get the little aliens out of the way. Then, get the Hunters' attention in any way you can to get them to chase you. Go to one of the far walls. Jump on to the higher part of the wall. The Hunter will try to punch you, but cannot. Shoot the Hunter from this position.

Wait until a Hunter gets angry and uses his melee attack (when he hits you with his shield). When his arm and shield are up, he is completely defenseless. Use your melee attack with the assault rifle to his stomach.

Once the Hunter is in your sight, depending on the distance from him, he will either charge his weapon at you or begin to run at you. You will have to get close enough so he starts running at you. As he charges at you (make sure you are running backwards and facing him), fire your weapon (assault rifle, plasma rifle, or shotgun recommended). Once he gets close enough, he will swing his shield at you, exposing his chest. At this point, he will slow down and give you a great opportunity to unload your weapon and get some distance from him. This may require some practice under the normal difficulty setting, and it may take more than one swing of the hunter's shield. Also, make sure that you have plenty of room in the area before you begin this strategy. Avoid from cliffs, corridors, and rocky areas.

After you get close enough to make them charge at you, sidestep, turn around, and shoot them in the back with the pistol. This is the easiest way to kill Hunters with just one or two shots.

Have a human pistol or shotgun. Get close to a Hunter. He will try to melee attack. When he charges at you with his head down, rapidly begin shooting at his head and it will die. Note: This was done under the easy difficulty setting.

To easily kill a Hunter, use a rocket launcher. This will kill them instantly. Do not get too close or the blast will kill you.

An easy way to kill Hunters is to side step out of the way when they try to ram you, Then, melee attack them in the back to kill them.

Hunters are very strong in armored points, yet if hit in the flesh they will go down easily. They carry a fuel rod gun fused to an arm and a shield for melee attacks. It is recommended to take them out with a rocket launcher or some other heavy weapon. If this is not possible, aim for gaps in the armor (neck, back, etc.)

You must have a pistol for this trick. When fighting a Hunter, walk up close to it. It will try to melee attack you. Dodge the attack and shoot the orange spot. It will die with one shot. If this does not happen, you definitely shot the armor.

Pick up a shotgun and sniper. If you are in a position where you can snipe the Hunters out, use your sniper to shoot the orange part of the Hunter. If you miss, run up to it and shoot the orange part when it is visible. Grenades will also work well.

When fighting Hunters, do not bother using any weapons other than the Magnum. Dodge the Fuel Rod blast, let them run up, circle round them when they swing, then give them one shot in the pink on its lower back with the Magnum.

Defeating Jackals:
Use a photon weapon to destroy a Jackal's shield quickly.

When you encounter a Jackal, run up and hit it with your weapon or get out a gun that uses bullets, not energy.

When you are a far way away from Jackals and have a sniper, they will sit in the defense position and leave very little uncovered. You will notice that on the right or left is a small notch in the shield. Aim for it and the Jackal population will be severely decreased.

If you are having trouble killing the Jackals because your ammunition deflects off the shields, just get close enough and melee attack them from the front. This can save parts of your shield and a lot of your ammunition.

To kill the jackals easier without using a plasma weapon, charge at them using your 7.62mm rifle in short bursts. This will cause them to either lower the shield to attack, step to the side, or turn and run. However, this will more often send them staggering back wildly waving their arms for an easy three round burst kill. Either way they are easy pickings when they move. This works well when you have a group of them together and saves ammunition.

When a Jackal starts attacking you, shoot through the gap in the shield where the gun comes out. If it hits the gun, the alien should stagger backward as if shot in the chest. It should then run for cover with the shield over its head. Blow its arm or legs off, then walk over to it and shoot its body a few times. A bit of blood will spurt.

Jackals are kind of weak and equipped with a circular shield. It can be disabled under enough stress or shot in exact center. They always have a plasma pistol and have a nasty habit of shooting charge shots which disable your shields. It is most efficient to melee attack them.

There are many ways to kill Jackals, but this way is the most effective. First have a plasma pistol in hand. Your second weapon could be anything (except the needler), but the best weapon for the job is either the M6D pistol, assault rifle, or sniper rifle. When you encounter a Jackal, charge your plasma pistol to overload and fire. Unless you are at an extreme range, the bolt should track the Jackal even if it attempts to dodge it. The Jackal's shield should overload and fail, allowing you to go in for the kill. Then follow it by a headshot with a M6D pistol or sniper rifle. If you are finishing the Jackal off with a plasma weapon, about two or three headshots with the plasma pistol or one or two headshots with the plasma rifle will kill it. If you are finishing it off with an assault rifle, a few short bursts at a reasonable range should kill it. If you do not kill it immediately after it is stunned, it will hide and regenerate its shield. Note: This was done in legendary mode.

If you have a sniper rifle, you can easily frag them by either sniping them before they see you. If they are crouched with their shields upm you can shoot through the notch in their shields and kill them easily. Otherwise, throw a plasma grenade on them, which will stick and hopefully kill them.

Defeating Marines:
Marines are armed with a variety of weapons, both Covenant and Human. They are lightly armoured. In the event that you anger them and they turn on you, Marines can be killed with explosives, automatic weapons, and melee attacks. Crew members can be killed by anything.

Defeating Sentinels:
It is much easier to defeat Sentinels if you use a Plasma Rifle. They will go down in about five shots.

Charge up a Plasma Pistol and aim at a Sentinel. It will die in just one shot. Another good thing about this is that the Plasma Pistol burst will sort of follow them to hit.

There are only a few levels that you have to deal with the Sentinels, and most of them are in confined areas. The easiest way to destroy them is to throw a Plasma Grenade on them. Since most of the time there close together, you can take out two or three at a time. If you do not have a Plasma Grenade, then fire a couple shots with the Shotgun or shoot a blast with the Energy Pistol.

Sentinels have light shielding and can fly. They are equipped with a heat beam that fires slowly, but can cover a large area. They have a rather unfortunate weakness to plasma weapons (this does not include needler) that can easily be exploited.

Easy kills:
To kill someone, it is often easier to run him over rather than shooting him. If you shoot him, it will take a few hits. If you run him over, it will take only one hit.

When there is a big group of enemies, throw a Plasma Grenade at the closest one to you. Kill him before he explodes. The rest of the group will run past when the grenade explodes, killing them. Note: This works best with the Flood and the shotgun.

When there is a group of Convent together (Grunts, Jackals, and Elites), throw a Plasma Grenade On a Grunt. The Grunt will then run back to the rest of the group, asking them to get it off. When the grenade explodes, the Grunt and everything around it will be killed.

More gore:
After defeating any of the aliens, especially the Elite, go over to the dead body. Repeatedly press B. After a few hits the area around of the dead body should have more blood around it. The Grunts and the Hunters will not put out as much blood as any other alien.

After killing a Hunter, take an assault rifle and aim for the bright orange spot in his lower back. If you shoot him in the spot, spurts of bright blood will pour out.

Easy Banshee kill:
Wait until a Banshee is directly above you, then shoot it in the belly with your shotgun. On the easy difficulty setting, it will explode with one shot. Moving forward when you do this can keep the wreckage from falling on you.

When a Banshee attacks you, wait until it flies in a straight line towards you. Then, shoot a rocket launcher (only one rocket required) or use the assault rifle..

This trick can be done on any level with a rocket launcher and a Banshee There are many ways to kill a Banshee, but this is the most effective. Take your rocket launcher and stand out in the open. When the Banshee comes in for a strafing run, zoom in on it. As the Banshee is heading directly at you and firing, position your crosshairs on the front of the Banshee. As he fires on you, you will zoom out, but you will be lined up perfectly with the Banshee. Fire. The Banshee cannot react in time and will be destroyed. ote: As soon as the Banshee is lined up and heading directly at you, you should fire -- the Banshee will swerve out of the way after a few seconds of firing.

Easy Wraith tank kills:
If you are playing two player cooperative mode, have one player make the tank follow them and the other player sneak up behind or beside it. Throw three plasma grenades on it. Note: It takes about five seconds before you can throw another grenade at the tank. When you throw the first grenade, back up and run around the tank then throw the next one; otherwise the enemy will run you over.

You can kill a tank by jumping on top of it. The tank will not be able to fire any grenades or anything else at you. Take out a machine gun or plasma rifle. The tank will keep raising and lowering its gun, but cannot fire at you. This requires a couple clips or the rest of your ammuntion. When done correctly, the tank will explode and kill your enemy. This will also take some health off of you. It is best done with full health.

To kill an enemy in a tank in multi-player mode, jump on top of it and aim down at the other player. Shoot him freely, as he cannot hurt you, but watch out for the turret. It can sometimes kill you if you touch it. If it is coming towards you, jump over it and you should be fine.

Wraith tanks are deadly, but have one drawback: rate of fire. Those mortars may be dangerous, but they are inaccurate and fire quite slowly. To destroy them, you can either shoot them with a rocket launcher, throw grenades at them (not recommended because you would very close to them, and therefore easier to hit), or attack in a Ghost. For example, in Assault On The Control Room, when you first meet Fire Team Zulu, there are some Ghosts on the opposite side. When you get in one, drive over to the Wraith tank and fire at it. As long as you keep moving, the Wraith tank cannot hit with its mortars, leaving you unscathed. Also, the Ghost's plasma guns fire fast and are fairly accurate.

Easy Warthog kills:
When your opponent has a Warthog in multi-player mode, and jump to the side as it is coming towards you. If done correctly, you can throw plasma grenades on it or shoot the other player. They will also slow down and nearly stop when they turn; which is another good way to get them with a plasma grenade.

Dodging Warthogs:
There is one specific way to dodge a Warthog. One fragmentation grenade is required. Wait until the Warthog tries to run you over. Instead of throwing the grenade at the Warthog, aim straight down and throw it at your feet and back up. By the time the Warthog gets to where you were, the grenade will send it into the air and probably kill them. The timing requires some practice, but you should be able to stop the Warthog 90% of the time.

Playing in legendary mode:

Get a friend. Have your friend sacrifice himself until the room is clear.

Always use a good combination of weapons, and think about your surroundings and enemies when choosing weapons. The sniper rifle is great until you reach the Flood. A good combination is the shotgun (the human pistol before you reach the Flood), an automatic weapon, and grenades. If you do not prefer to follow this example, then remember to use a combination of short and long range weapons.

Conserve ammunition. Never waste ammunition, always gather as much ammunition as possible, reload your weapon during any break in the action, and switch off any plasma weapon for a better one whenever possible.

Take it slow. Do not burst in to take all of the fire. Also, use the scenery as a cover. If you can fit behind it, you can hide behind it.

Use the enemies themselves to your advantage. Remember that each enemy type has their own mannerisms and characteristics.

Take shortcuts when possible. Here are some examples. In The Silent Cartographer level head directly to the security override station. In the Assault On The Control Room level, after you get one of the early Banshees, in the area after you go under the tunnel you cannot take the tank through, the double bridge will be directly above you. Ride the Banshee to the bridge and skip a large portion of that level. Taking this shortcut means there will be no more enemies throughout the rest of the level. In the 343 Guilty Spark level, go to the secret area with the 2-D trees and follow the cliff through the structure that goes indoors. In The Maw level, after the dropship gets taken down, you will keep going. Continue until you see the first open door on your right. Enter there and take another right. This can shave a good minute and a half off the time it takes to get to the Longsword at the end of the level.

Flashlight:
When you get to the part when the people and aliens infected by the Flood start coming after you, turn your flashlight on and point it at them. The large one will stop running and jumping so that they are easier to shoot. However, if you raise your gun to reload, turn away from them or take the light off of them in any way, they will resume running around and try to kill you again. Although the creatures infected by the Flood stand still when you point the flashlight at them, they may still shoot if they have a gun, so kill them quickly.

Glow in the dark blood:
In dark areas, kill either a Hunter or a Grunt. Then, melee them so lots of blood comes out. Turn off your light and you will be able to see the blood.

Do it yourself grenade launcher:
Get two plasma grenades. Place a grenade down, then place the second grenade in front of it about one to two feet away. Stand back, and when the first one explodes. it will sent off a duplicate of the remaining grenade. When one of the copies stays, the other blasts off in the direction the first grenade was sent it in. Wait for the second grenade's time to go off and watch the explosion either in the air or on the ground. Note: Do not stand too close, as the grenade may cause injury, burns, and/or even death.

Throw one plasma grenade a few feet in front of you. Since a plasma grenade will explode in about three seconds, count to two and throw another plasma grenade slightly farther up. If timed correctly, the first grenade will explode as the second grenade is above it. This will send the second grenade about 500 meters. This is useful in multi-player games when you want to confuse the enemy to make them think you are closer than you really are. Note: This must be timed perfectly to get this to work or else you will only throw two grenades as normal.

Fireworks:
If you have just won a game or would like to celebrate, take two plasma grenades and throw them on the same exact spot. The first grenade will explode, sending the second grenade into the air. After about one to two seconds, the grenade will explode blue.

Rocket Launcher instructions:
If you have a gun with a scope, use it to look at the middle of the Rocket Launcher. You will see a small picture with a man holding the gun with the text "Hold This Way".

Hippo shells:
Fire a shotgun shell. Look at the shell with sniper rifle or pistol. You will see a hippo on the shell.

Alternate way to change weapons:
If your weapon change button is Y and your melee attack is B, it can be fun to run up to something while carrying the rifle. Then instead of pressing B, roll your thumb over Y, then B . This will cause the Master Chief to melee with his other weapon without having had to take it out (for example, shooting with the shotgun and clubbing with the rocket launcher). This can also be a sly way of changing weapons.

Miscellaneous

Faster Warthog weapon use:
This trick works best in multi-player mode. Drive the Warthog in a straight line. When you see an enemy, jump out of the Warthog. Tap X repeatedly and sidestep to the right. If you are quick enough, you will exit the Warthog and jump on the LAAG gun without stopping, while the Warthog slows down. This also works well on ice, because you keep sliding.

Moving flipped Warthog:
If a Warthog is on its back, throw a plasma grenade under or near it and the explosion will move it. You may have to try this several times. The Warthog will not explode.

In order to flip a Warthog over when it is on its back without wasting grenades, go near it and press X.

Jumping in a Warthog:
When you jump off into a pit or something else in the Warthog, do not press the gas while in the air. You will go farther and when you land your gunner will not fall out.

Use Warthog as sniping shield:
When you have the sniper rifle and a Warthog, make sure there is no one on the gun turret. Jump onto the back of the Warthog without pressing X. You can now snipe people by crouching down. This allows you to have a "shield".

Jumping in a tank:
In multi-player mode, have you and a friend each get a tank. Run into each other head on until one of the tanks flips over on its back. Then, jump on top of the upturned belly of the tank. Press X and you will be catapulted very high as the tank flips over.

Scorpion tank ramp:
When playing in multi-player mode using either the Blood Gulch or Sidewinder map, choose a game type that has all vehicles. Park two Warthogs directly next to each other and drive a Scorpion tank up on top of them. When the front of the Scorpion tank is facing up into the air, shoot it with the other Scorpion tank's missile launcher. The first Scorpion tank should flip over. If not, repeat the steps. You can now drive the Ghosts off it and go flying. If the Scorpion tank leans too far to one side, you can adjust it by hitting the low side with your melee attack.

Wheelie in a Ghost:
While moving, hold A and press Analog-stick Down.

In any multi-player map with a Banshee (for example, Blood Gulch), while going at top speed, pull back and use the emergency brake. This is also useful for going up walls that you cannot climb by going just straight forward. Also, you can do this in single player just for fun.

Double jump:
After you jump, do a crouch. You will stay in the air longer and go slightly higher. This is useful for reaching ledges that you can just barely reach with a normal jump.

Jump higher:
Use the following trick to get up to higher places, such as good sniper locations. When you jump, crouch and melee at the same time.

In co-op mode, jump on your teamate's head then jump again. You will jump much higher.

Jump and repeatedly press Crouch in the air. This will help you get more height and stay in the air longer. This will work for even higher places if you are playing cooperative mode by doing this by standing on top of someone.

Avoid falling death:
When you fall into a pit, repeatedly press Y to switch weapons while falling. If done correctly, you will fall, but not die.

When falling, click the Left Analog-stick to squat just before you hit the ground. If done correctly, you will take less damage.

Flying high:
Select multi-player split screen mode and create a game that has unlimited grenades and only rocket launchers. When you start, go to an outside level and look down as far as you can. Next, run backwards and throw a plasma grenade. It should stick on your foot. Then, shoot the rocket launcher as fast as you can. If done correctly, you will fly up with the plasma grenade exploding while in mid-air, sending you flying higher.

Stand on top of a Shade (Covenant turret). Throw a plasma grenade under it, wait two seconds, then jump. The grenade will explode, catapulting you to high locations. This can be used to get to the top of The Truth And Reconciliation level, if you use the one near the gravity lift.

Flying team members:
When a person gets into the Warthog (gunner's seat), throw a plasma grenade on his body. Move away and watch him fly into the air.

Flying bodies:
Go to multi-player split screen mode and play a game with unlimited grenades with two or more players. Kill one of the players, then get everyone else to stand in "accurate" grenade throwing range. Have each player throw two grenades on the corpse; this must be timed very accurately. Throw them on the hands, knees, or anywhere else, then step away and watch the body fly.

James Bond-style vehicle change:
Fly low over a Warthog with the Banshee. Press B to jump out, then press B again when close to the Warthog to land in the driver's seat. This works with all seating positions.

Survive almost any drop with any vehicle:
Immediately before you go off any high drop, send your vehicle into a 360 circle turn. This works best with the Warthog or Ghost. You can fall an incredible distance and receive no damage.

Prevent vehicle use:
All vehicles, alien or human, cannot be destroyed if nobody is in them. When you are in the tank, for example, you can shoot Ghosts and flip them so that Elites cannot enter them.

Do donut in Warthog:
Press Left Analog-stick Forward + Right Analog-stick Right. Note: Try this on the Assault On The Control Room level.

Warthog fun:
Go to any level or game in multi-player mode that will allow you to have vehicles. Have one player get in a Warthog and have the other do the same with another. Run into each other with the Warthogs and you will go flying in the air, doing flips.

Funny Grunts:
Take out an assault rifle and aim it at a Grunt. Tap the trigger once lightly, so that you only shoot once. The rifle's bullets are not very powerful. Thus, one bullet will only lightly wound the grunt. If the bullet hits, occasionally the Grunt will say funny things such as "Short people first!", and "I just wet myself" because of the fright.

Mobile explosion:
When playing two player cooperative or four player multi-player game with teams, have at least one plasma grenade and a Warthog. Have player two stand outside and ahead of the vehicle. Have player one will drive head on at the enemy (human or alien). Have player two throw a plasma grenade on the Warthog as the person is driving. Have player one will hop out, sending the Warthog barreling at the enemy. If timed correctly, you can get both run-over and explosion kills. Note that this also works with the Banshee and Ghost, but can only be done once, as it will destroy those two types of vehicles.

Flare:
Have at least two plasma grenades when your partner cannot find you. Throw one in any direction and without moving as quickly as possible, throw a second one. The first one will explode, sending the second one flying into the air. The grenade will explode at a very high point, acting as a flare so your partner can see where you are located. Note: Make sure that you do not move in any direction while doing this, or the second grenade will not go into the air, only sideways if anywhere.

Fire a fully-charged plasma pistol straight up into the air. It will act as a flare to let your teammates know where you are. This is easier than the plasma grenade method, and you do not have to waste grenades.

Suicide with shield:
Stand in front of a shield in one of the levels and shoot at it with a sniper rilfe. Try to be close to the shield.

Traitor:
On a level where you can find a group of five or more marines (such as Assault On The Control Room), kill three marines quickly. The remaining marines will call you a traitor (shouting things like "He's loco!") and will start firing at you. If you shoot them, sometimes they will ask you if they owe you money or tell you to clean the mud off your visor.

After being considered a traitor, if you want to regain the Marines' trust, find some Covenant and kill them. If you kill enough of them, the Motion Tracker will show Yellow-Green points where your "fellow" Marines are and they will not shoot you, though they may aim at you. Note: This was done in the Halo level.

Pet Flood:
If you shoot off a human Flood's right arm (the one with tentacles) with an assault rifle or pistol, he will become harmless. He will only follow you around. Note: If he has a gun in his left hand, he will still shoot you.

Piggyback ride:
Have someone hop onto someone else's shoulders and have the person on top crouch. It looks as if they are getting a piggyback ride.

Pyramid of destruction:
Link systems so that fifteen or sixteen people are playing. Go to a level in multi-player mode with vehicles recommended. Have about three players stand next to each other, then have someone jump on their shoulder. Continue stacking players in this manner. Note: You may need to use a Warthog or Scorpion for height in order to get on the higher players' shoulders. Once you get about ten or more players stacked, park a Scorpion in front of them. Ramp off of it with a Ghost into them, or just shoot rockets at them with the Scorpion.

Satisfying goals and challenges:

Kill a Hunter with a melee attack (let him rush sidestep, then attack).
Kill a Golod Swordman with a melee attack (hit him with a pistol burst from very close, then immediately attack).
Run over enemies with a Warhog.
Blast groups of enemies with a Scorpion Cannon.
Skip a major part of level 5.
Shoot down a Banshee with a rocket launcher.
Shoot down a Banshee from a Banshee.
Finish the game in legendary mode.
Playing through the entire game co-op in legendary mode.
Taking out a friend (not in a vehicle) in multi-player with a plasma grenade.
